Mar 30, 2010Since installing 10.6.3 my trackpad (i.e., mouse pointer) and keyboard are hanging up for 10 seconds at a time every couple of minutes.

Desktops :: G5 Won't Install Tiger / Hanging At Install And Disk Utility
Oct 27, 2010I have a dual 2ghz G5 that i wanted to clean off and start fresh. I wiped the drive with disk utility and tried to install os from tiger install dvd. G5 keeps hanging at install and also at disk utility. I've swapped both the osX install dvd disk and the entire dvd drive, but still hangs at os load or utility.

Nov 16, 2009So to make a long story short Just traded my buddy my blackbook and some cash for this 09 uMBP. I ordered an Intel SSD for it that is supposed to be here Wednesday. I figured while i was waiting i could install a fresh copy of OS X on it and get it set up just how I wanted it then use CCC to image it. That way Wednesday when the SSD gets here I can just pop it in and use the image from CCC to load everything up and I would be set.
When I throw the OS X DVD in and click the first icon to install OS it says you have to restart. I click yes and it does. the screen with the apple and the little swirly status icon shows up and both the DVD drive and hard drive are spinning. it hangs here for about a minute and a half to 2 minutes. Then the DVD drive and HDD stop spinning and the screen goes black. like it is going to sleep. You hit the space bar or keyboard and then the HDD and DVD drive start spinning again like it is going to boot up but the screen stays black. both HDD and DVD drive continiue to spin for about 30 seconds then stop. Still all black screen.
durring this time everything is locked up. you cant get the DVD to eject, nothing. You have to hold the power button for a solid minute or 2 and it finally reboots (not a shut down but a reboot).
As soon as it reboots if you leave the DVD in it does the exact same thing as above. Apple logo for about 2 minutes then black screen. If you hit the Eject button IMMEDIATELY as the apple logo comes on it will eject the OS X DVD and boot normally. I have done it about 6 times now and it just keeps haning if the DVD is in the drive.
Applications :: Aperture Hanging After Clean Install?
May 17, 2009My MBP was running a little sluggish so I thought it was time to clean it up with a fresh install. All backups & apps have been reinstalled, all software is updated and everything is running pretty smoothly and much faster!!
But I'm having some issues w/ Aperture. I have connected it to my previous library and even have it in the same place as before, nothing is missing. Seems OK.
Now I'm trying to back up to a new vault and when I try to do that, it just hangs or runs extremely slow. When I try to click on the Vault options (the arrow up, red sync icon or the vault settings to add a new vault), this is where it starts to hangs. The menu comes up for 1 second but as soon as I release the trackpad button, the menu goes away. From the File menu, vault options are grayed out.
Anyone have these problems when reinstalling or have an idea on how to fix?

Nov 13, 2009So my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.

Jul 16, 2006Not only has my MacBook got hideous discoloration on the palmrest and trackpad, but now the keyboard and the trackpad aren't even responding! The number lock (or F6 key), and the Caps Lock key are both turned on - does this have anything to do with it? The problem started when I launched a DVD with the Apple remote (something I had never done before).
When I quit the application and reverted to the desktop, the keyboard and the trackpad were no longer functioning. I've tried everything. I've switched off the computer, I've rebooted about twelve times now, nothing works. I have to admit, this is my sixth computer in twenty years and I've never had problems of this magnitude.

Dec 25, 2008I've got a black plastic MacBook running Leopard 10.5.6. My laptop was running sluggishly, but no real problems, so I restarted it, and now the keyboard and trackpad don't work at all. I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC (the keyboard did work in letting me reset the PRAM, but nothing works once it boots to the login screen.)

Mar 25, 2009I was just chatting with a friend on iChat and my keyboard and trackpad became completely unresponsive. I had sent a message to him, then went to reply to his response and there was just nothing there as far as input was concerned, both were completely unresponsive.
The only other running apps at the time were Mail.app and FontExplorer X Pro (which is always open for me, much like finder). Anyone have any notions why something like this would happen. In 6 years of Mac portable use (powerbooks and Macbook Pros), I've never had this happen to me. I had to hold the power button for 5 seconds to shut the computer down.
IMac :: What Keyboard/mouse/trackpad For Use With TV
Apr 2, 2009I just got my new $599 Mac Mini hooked up tonight. Wow. This thing is fast considering I still have only the 1GB of memory in it. For regular stuff, it feels as fast as my 2.4 GHZ iMac with 4GB of memory and normal speed hard drive.
Anyway, it works pretty good with my TV.
However, what type of keyboard or mouse do you recommend? Right now I'm having to use my powerbook to control it, using teleport along with a wired keyboard and mouse plugged into the back, hidden, just so it doesn't complain about not having one.
I don't know if I should go with the two Apple products, keyboard and mouse.
OR should I get a keyboard with a built in trackpad, since I will mainly be using it on the couch. What do you recommend?

May 14, 2009I have some strange problem after updating my MacBookPro4,1 to 10.5.7. After a while (can be a few hours) the trackpad and keyboard stop working. When I then put the MBP to sleep and wake it up, both work again but only for about maybe 5-10 minutes. This can be reproduced (put to sleep, works for 5min, put to sleep, works for 5min, etc.) When I reboot it works again for some hours.

Jun 15, 2009The other day my battery died on me and after I had plugged it in and restarted, I was unable to enter in my password at the login screen because the keyboard and trackpad wouldn't respond. I tried repairing the disk and permissions but I still can't get past the login screen. I know I can always reinstall leopard but there are a few files I haven't had the chance to backup. Any way to get back those files before I reinstall?

Dec 24, 2009i'm having problems with my keyboard and trackpad freezing at times. Sometimes it will freeze completely, no keys working except for the power button. other times it will freeze for just a few seconds then unfreeze itself. the first scenario is esp bad because if im working on a project or typing a paper and it freezes, im SOL. sometimes it'll even freeze u when i turn it on. when the main screen comes up i cant move the mouse and the aforementioned problem starts. sometimes i have to turn it on and off 3 or 4 times before i can use it again. also, my keys sometimes "stick", and by stick i mean they will repeat itself after i've stopped touching the key. it's not literally stuck down, but it keeps putting the same letter (or doing the same function) until i push a couple more buttons.
anyone have similar problems? i've tried everything i can think of. the only thing left is to reformat the hard drive. I want to use time machine afterwards but i'm afraid if its a software issue, i'll just put it back on my computer after the reformat.

So ... i found out the problem is not with the hardware it's in the software and the only way to solve this is by reinstalling the Osx or something like that ... but how the hell am suppose to run the Osx dvd without clicking the (Alt) or the (c) cuz the keyboard is not working .... ooh ya y usb is still working am typing this from my usb keyboard (yes i tried using it with the installation) but it's not working .

Jan 10, 2010Ok, after having no problems with my MB pro, I am suddenly having all kinds of problems. Today, my trackpad suddenly stopped working. Finger movements don't work, neither does clicks. Now my keyboard is not fully working. It is kind of 'hit and miss.' I had the MB charged and it was not plugged in. It seems to work if I type very slowly. The only other thing I noticed was that it was really lagging today. The busy pinwheel would come up when there wasn't hardly anything even open.

It's possible to do commands, and if I hold option down to select a start disk the keyboard works here (I can use the arrows to select a startdisc), and when the computer is asleep I can wake it up by pressing the trackpad. Jan 9, 2010So it is a macbook pro 4.1 model running leopard 10.5.8. The keyboard and trackpad don't always want to work. I have been using a bluetooth mouse with no problems though. The DVD drive doesn't want to accept a disk, when you put a disk in it keeps trying to read but stops and then wont eject.
It seems that if the computer is on for more then a hour the keyboard and mouse stop working. Sometimes after restarting the keyboard and mouse work again, but sometimes it doesnt. I was wondering if reformatting would help. If so can I reformat by using the DVD drive off a IMac sharing the drive to format the Macbook Pro?

Oct 15, 2010I've been having this problem with my Macbook Pro for quite some time now, and it's absolutely infuriating. So far, I've found no solution. As it is out of warranty, I am loathe to take it to the Apple store, but I am beginning to fear I will have no choice. I've got an early 2008 15" MBP with the NVIDIA 8600M GT 512. It spends most of its time in use as a desktop machine, with a keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected, so I don't notice the problem often. However, any time I take my Mac mobile, I am plagued by this issue. What happens is that, seemingly at random, the keyboard and trackpad will completely stop functioning. The only way to get around the problem is to connect a mouse and reboot, which returns things to normal for a few minutes, then it happens again. If I have no mouse, I have to force-shutdown, as the power key still works.
Sometimes the keyboard and trackpad will shut down all at once, and sometimes they will fluctuate for a while, with keystrokes not registering and trackpad motions not happening. Sometimes keys will stick (not physically) sending a character repeating across the screen until I hit another key. But, in the end, the result is the same: no input functionality, necessitating a reboot. Sometimes I am able to use my MBP for long periods without a problem. Sometimes it happens within minutes. It happens when it's hot, it happens when it's not. There seems to be no real consistency. For a long time I thought that it was a software issue as it never happened while booted into windows. But recently it has happened while booted into Windows 7, though it never happened in XP. The motherboard has been replaced recently, and the issue did not go away.

Dec 25, 2010My macbook pro's (late 2008) keyboard and trackpad stopped working about a month ago. I've been trying to get it working again, but to no avail. It initially stopped working when I updated my software. It got stuck on the startup screen after restarting from the install, so I had to hard shut down and restart. When I turned it back on my keyboard and trackpad didn't work.
I restarted again and it worked. Since then it's been going in and out and now it's finally stopped working all together. Since I'm pretty sure it's a software issue I wanted to reformat my computer. Problem is that I can't hold down the option key to boot it from my install disk! And I had to type all this from my usb mouse, and type each key on the keyboard viewer.

Jan 4, 2011Basically I was using my Mac and it froze so I closed the lid. When I opened it again the fan was much louder than normal. It was still frozen and wouldn't respond so I switched it off from the power button. Then I turned it back on, but it wouldn't boot past the grey screen and the fan was still loud. I read some threads here and it said to boot it in safe mode using Shift, I did that and now I'm at the log in screen. However now the keyboard and trackpad aren't responding and the fan is still loud. If I get an external usb mouse and keyboard, any advice on what to do from there?

Dec 21, 2008I have a 2 Gen MBA and today suddenly the keyboard, trackpad and even the USB port stopped working, I tried connect an external mouse but it didn't work, even other USB devices are not working !! I tried the display port it is fine, but I am not sure about the audio port. I tried the SMC reset but it did me no good.
I had bought the MBA from Apple UK but currently I am in INDIA for my winter break from UNI. I don't have my OSX discs at the moment they are back in UK, I tried calling the Applecare but they are closed being a Sunday, and I don't want the local Apple Authorised Service center to touch my air as I don't trust them (The appointment of these repair centers in INDIA is not upto the highest standards !)
The keyboard and the trackpad are working in the Apple hardware test, I was able to move around the cursor and even use the keyboard to select the various options, so I believe the hardware is fine.
So any suggestions what can I do in the meantime, I will call Apple Care in UK tomorrow. I am not back in the UK till the 26th January.

Jan 10, 2009I was just using my Macbook normally and it came up with an error like IP was in use or something with the red exclamation mark. The my internet stopped working so I just restarted it. Now my Macbook is literally not working? I can turn it on but when I get to the login screen, my mouse or keyboard are not working! So all I can do is hold the power button to turn off. It appears OSX is still running fine though because the screen dims after a while and the flashing | in the name input bar is still flashing.

Mar 18, 2009Today I was working with some work and put my laptop to sleep by shutting the lid. Less than half an hour later I opened it and the keyboard and trackpad were both unresponsive.
