Can anyone tell me the best way to stream movies from my mac hard drive to PS3? Also, If I have movies stored on a western digital WIRELESS external HD, what's the best way to stream movies from that HD to a ps3 and xbox 360?

I have an external connected my Airport Extreme (n) which has some of my HD movies in there. I try opening them through VLC player. However; I have noticed the video playback freezes all too often. Is there a option in VLC to buffer the video longer or do you recommend any other software which is able to buffer the video a little longer?

Unfortunately we have had to settle for watching everything in very small windows, as the "full size" options never work. I assume this is because these websites are set up for windows. We currently need to use Flip4Mac to watch these sites. We are using Safari as our browser. Any one have any idea if we would have better luck with another browser, or another video player? I could just install different browsers and video players and try them out, but I was hoping someone may be able to point us in the right direction so we don't have to install, then try and un-install a bunch of stuff, and I certainly don't want to install windows!

I have an older Mac mini, model A1176, 2005. I haven't upgraded to OS 10 yet, but I bought a family pack, and I can do that if I need to. Can I use the mini to download Netflix streaming movies? It has a CD slot; can I use it to play DVDs? My tv is also older, just a plain tv (no HD, no blueray) but it has a red-white-yellow port.
If I can do these things, what do I need to buy, and what do I need to do?
I have an Ibook g3 700mhz 384 MB and having dificulty watching streaming video for ex. cnn.com or any other. I can watch movies on flash drive and dvds no probs or from harddrive but streaming is very choppy. I know connection is not the issue (I have broadband) and streaming works fine on sony desktop running xp 1ghz with 256 mb ram. What gives?

Even on my MBP when listening to music from iTunes. But Movies in iTunes don't work. The AirPlay icon in a movie playing in iTunes only shows "computer" and doesn't show any other options.
I had a bunch of movies that took with my digital camera that were always imported into iPhoto when I transferred my pictures into it. I used to just be able to click on them in iPhoto and the movie would open up and play. Now it seems that my movies are gone and all that I have of my movies is the first frame as a picture and nothing else. Their file extensions used to say .mov but now are .jpg. I've tried changing the extension back to .mov but no movie is there and the file sizes are not what a movie should be.
I'm running Snow Leopard on a 13" Macbook Pro with newest version of iPhoto. I have quicktime X and Quicktime 7 installed.
Any mac apps out their to capture a streaming video? Version Tracker has one, but didn't work at all. I'm trying to capture a mms://~~~.wmv stream

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am not to Hot on this stuff so I will try and expalin as best as possible. I have found a streaming video which I want to download or copy/rip which ever is the best. When I right click the video it comes up with a Flash or Micromedia properties & I dont think it was made for people to download. I am assuming its a Windows based program behind it of some sort. What my aim is, is to be able to rip it & download it onto my Mac then have it on my Itouch. I dont mind paying for a decent program as there are quiet a few I would,nt mind doing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHi so I just got a new macbook pro the other day and am having some trouble. My school has streaming lectures I need to access but they are in wmv format. I have downloaded both flip4mac and vlc but neither seem to work. Quicktime will either tell me that it cannot open urls that begin with "mms" or give me "osstatus error-19160". VLC media player gives me an error message saying your input can't be opened. The url begins with mms and ends with a .wmv. I don't want to have to use windows through bootcamp to stream the lectures if I can help it. To access the website and each individual video I need to enter in my username and password on the website and then into windows media player on a pc, I'm not sure if this makes any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I really enjoy to listen some radio shows, but at that time I'm working, so I was wondering if there is any way to record the to listen later.
The show only last 2 hours, and since it's radio quality the mp3 file should be really small.
The set up:
iMac (early 2009) ethernet connection to TimeCapsule
iMac is running Medialink
TimeCapsule has a folder with MP4 movies of varying bitrates/quality
TimeCapsule is the internet router
PS3, connected through 802.11g wifi for internet and media access
Macbook air, connected through 802.11n for internet and media access
What works: Netflix streaming in my PS3 works splendidly, including all HD content (720p) at data rates of around 5 MBPS
What does not: Streaming movies from Airport disk to PS3 is awfully jerky and stuttering for all decent quality rips (i.e. 1.5MPBS and more). Low quality rips, 700KBPS or below, play alright as far as I can tell. Thought perhaps PS3 is not playing well with the all mac set up, but streaming the content to my macbook air is also the same way. Unusable.
I do not understand why despite having faster connections on both ends (802.11n to n), I can't stream playable content at 1.5 MBPS on my network (points to some upload issue with TimeCapsule?)
On the other hand, despite slower wifi, PS3 is able to pull content from the internet via the same TimeCapsule, even HD movies, and plays them smoothly.
I'm looking for a Streaming box to go in my living room with only a few parameters
1) It streams Netflix
2) It can be connected to external hard drives for movies (mp4) & music (aac)
I'd like to keep spending to a minimum. Is there anything out there with these features that isn't too expensive? Blu-Ray and everything else would be welcome, but I'm looking to spend no more than $250-300.
If so, why the hell does it go to sleep causing my Apple TV to suddenly go back to the menu screen.
Some things about Apple are really very crap.
My MB Air with Lion and the latest Flash player won't play videos embedded on the BBC news web page. I have tried on Safari, Firefox and Crome and it doesn't work on any of them. Videos stream just fine on a Windows 7 laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I bought an hdm cord and adapter so it would fit into my MacBook Air. I also bought a separate speaker system. When I set it up, it worked perfectly. I had to disconnect my MacBook and when I set everything up, it did not work. I could see my MacBook's background colors on the TV, but the video would not stream. I could see it on my computer, but not on the TV.

It seems to me that Quicktime is losing out, big time, versus Flash for video streaming. Even the venerable BBC is proposing to use Flash for all its services for internet TV and most streamed audio is on Real Player.
So what do you all think Apple needs to do to get Quicktime back in the mainstream as a leading platform for DRM (of necessity) protected TV & Video?
