For a while, my MacbookPro, which is a MacBookPro5,3, has been telling me that I have updates. Among the updates was a graphics update. Back when my iMac5,1 ran Leopard, I blindly got the graphics update, so it is no longer usable, unless I use Ubuntu Hardy on it. I do not want to run into that issue again, since I have programs that I need on my Mac for me to be productive, as I started writing books and publishing them through Lulu (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.). Is the Snow Leopard graphics update going to cause stability issues, like the Leopard graphics update did on my old iMac5,1? Right now, I am getting all updates, except for the graphics update, that are available for my MacBook Pro.
I'm running 10.6.3 Snow Leopard on my 2008 MBP. At first it worked great, but with an occasional beach ball. But it's gotten worse. Now i can't do anything if i have more than 3 pages of safari open, it just beach balls or freezes. If i have iMovie open and am working on a project, it beach balls every time i try to navigate the project (with 480 X 320 H.264 video!) Plus everything else freezes so much and then just spazzes out when the computer comes to. I don't have much stuff on here, only about 20 or so apps plus the stock apps (most i dont use that much but keep because i occasionally use it), plus like 40GB/185GB available on the partition.
Apple on Tuesday released Snow Leopard Graphics Update, a patch for Mac OS X 10.6 that is said to improve performance and reliability of popular titles like StarCraft II and Portal. The 69.2MB update was released by Apple Tuesday afternoon. It is available from the company's support site, or via Software Update. It requires Mac OS X 10.6.4. According to Apple, the software update contains performance and stability fixes for graphics applications, including fixes that: address frame rate issues occurring in Portal and Team Fortress 2 on certain Macs resolve an issue that could cause aperture 3 or StarCraft II to unexpectedly quit or become unresponsive.
The update addresses framerate issues on the titles Portal and Team Fortress 2 for the late 2009 and mid 2010 iMac and Mac mini; early 2009 Mac Pro; early 2009 and mid 2010 MacBook; and mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15- and 17-inch models. The update also resolves an image corruption issue that may occur when disconnecting and reconnecting external displays while the system is running. Valve, the maker of Portal, Team Fortress 2 and the Steam gaming client for Mac, said in June that it was working with Apple to improve the performance of games running in Mac OS X. The company said that improved drivers from Apple would have the greatest impact on performance. Just noticed the Snow Leopard Graphics Update, anyone install it yet/found noticeable improvements (can't install it until I get back home in a week)? Hopefully no problems for people with flashed graphics cards? I would like this update to let me run SC2 in Mac OS X; it's so much faster in Win 7...
Has anyone ran some tests with the new Snow Leopard Graphics Update Apple just released. I am primarily interested in the performance increases it offers SC2. I am at work and will not be able to install it until late tonight, after which I will post before and after FPS and settings for SC2.
Every once and a while, usually when my MacBook is running on it's battery, the screen will show a black screen for nearly only a millisecond or two. It's not too bothersome, and it usually blinks back to normal before I can notice it, but nevertheless I don't want it, and from what I can recall, this only started happening after I installed the Snow Leopard Graphics Update. Is anybody else getting these problems on their MBPs or MBs? MacBook config details in my sig.
Last night I installed Leopard's Graphic Update. I can't boot my macbook since then. Stuck at the gray screen with apple logo. Here's what I already tried to do: Boot with leopard DVD and run Repair Disk - it tells me the disk appears to be ok. If I click on repair permissions tough, it takes a long time and then hangs. Nothing happens, the progress bar even stops spinning.
I then tried to boot with Disk Warrior 4.0 (it's the version I have). I tried reparing disk and files permissions there, and it worked ok. But I can't boot after it as well. Again in Disk Warrior, I tried clicking REBUILD to get my file directory back and retrieve my files, but after some seconds it states there is not enough memory. I hope this is RAM memory, because I just ordered a pair of ram chips, Im gonna upgrade it to 2gb (I only have 512mb ram, first gen intel macbook core duo)
So tried SAFE MODE (shift), nothing. Single user mode, typing fcsk -y , reports the disk is ok, but nothing as well. I have a time machine backup from 11 days ago (apple makes it so easy to backup and I cant even bother plugging in my lacie firewire external hd, retarded me), and for me that's kind of unnaceptable. I go to university and thats 2 weeks worth of priceless annotations, I really need to get them back.
I have Leopard 10.5.4 installed and would like to update my graphics with the new patch. I'm getting this message when I try to install: You cannot install Leopard Graphics Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.
My system is as follows: 1.8ghz PowerPC G5 (Single Core) NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Mac OS X 10.5.4
So for about a week or two now i have been experiencing this glitches that seem to come around after the computer has been on for more than 2 or 3 hours. I have noticed restarting the machine will get rid of them. I have a 2.4ghz MacBook with 2 gigs or ram from early 2008. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.2
Does anyone know how to fix this? I think it might be a messed up graphics card, but i don't have much of a clue. I have noticed when trying to take a selected screen shot over the dock the glitches will go away, but they only happen on the dock, wallpaper, and window shadows, they are also random every time.
Pardon me being stupid, but I'm stumped. I have the ATI Radeon HD 2400, and on the Snow Leopard specs for OpenCL it doesn't list this. Will this effect anything, or will it still work.
Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store).When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.
I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March.In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update.This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto).The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website. However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this? Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. Does anybody know how this can be fixed, since the error message appears every time I try the update. Other updates run smoothly.
I am thinking that I might wait a few months to upgrade to Snow Leopard in order to avoid glitches that always come with new OS's. I am happy with Leopard, and just think that waiting may avoid some headaches. Does anyone else think this is a good idea or is there a good reason why I should upgrade as soon as I can?

So I have a macbook pro old model.Recent Problems:graphics card failedsystem crashed had to reinstall system crashed again and would be stuck on apple logo now after i reinstalled SL after the stuck on logo problem my mac was fine.3 weeks later which is now it started to lag,slow,unresponsive.So i tried repairing disk utility and FAILED then i tried reinstalling osx FAILEDthen i had to delete my whole harddrive :*( and reformated the harddrive.FAILED AGAIN.calling apple is a no because i already called alot before so now they want to charge.So did i reformat wrong? something?
I'm considering a new Mac Pro and one thing that I was curious about was VMWare stability and performance. I have a few applications that are Windows only and was wondering what everyone's experience has been running windows applications through VMWare vs if they were run stand alone.
Apple this week is equipping developers with a new beta of Mac OS X 10.6.2, the second maintenance and security update to the company's new Snow Leopard operating system that will perform upgrades to nearly 150 components. The latest beta, labeled Mac OS X 10.6.2 build 10C535, comes one week after the Mac maker issued build 10C531 to address issues with Snow Leopard's Dock, ColorSync, QuartzCore and graphic driver components. This week, Apple has asked developers to continue to provide feedback on graphics drivers while also tasking them with focusing their evaluation efforts on TrackPad preferences and the ability to create virtual machines, people familiar with the matter say.
As was the case with last week's beta, documentation accompanying build 10C535 reportedly lists no known issues. And while Apple has temporarily ceased its practice of providing a running list of bug fixes that will come baked into the impending release, it did identify 148 components that have seen tweaks. Among those components are AppleBacklight, Battery Menu, Dictionary, Expose, FileSync, Family Controls, Fonts, Front Row, HFS, Inkwell, iPhoto, MobileMe, OpenCL, Parental Controls, QuickTime, Screen Sharing, Spell Checker, Spotlight, Time Machine, and USB. Just bought a new mid 2010 macbook pro mc374ll/a came equipped with snow leopard 10.6 after checking for update it says new update 10.6.4 available to download. Is it save to update or are there problems with this update that I should stay clear from?
I ran the 'Software Update' on her machine and it had several (6+) updates including the updates for the EFI bootloader; I clicked 'Okay' to reboot and apply the updates and after the 'chime' the machine hangs in the 'grey-screen' with the Apple logo and a progress indicator. After a period of a few minutes it appears the machine turns itself off (or at least the screen goes dark)

Also understand that my wife doesn't have Applejack, DiskWarrior, or any other type of utilities installed, *sigh* nor does she know where her installation disks are... so I think I may be at a loss until I can get the machine to the local Applestore and schedule a time?
As above really! Its really frustrating. It bounces in the dock as though it is about to start. It then brings up a box that asks if I would like to report it to Apple, which naturally I do.Â
My friend suggested uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its no good!Â
Its ever since the update to Java. Anyone else had similar problems?Â
