View 7 Repliesjust installed the Server Admin Tools 10.7.3 but Server Admin and Work-group Manager are still 10.7. Only the System Image Utility is 10.7.3.
View 7 Replies View Relatedmy problem is that on a restart of one of my 10.6.8 Servers parts of the Serveradmin configs are gone while some of them persists. The lost configs are everytime the same: VPN (complete) and iChat (a secondary but very important Host-Domain). Of course a can restore them from a backup but that shouldn't the standard procedure after a restart....
View 11 Replies View RelatedWith any Unix machine, one can run at the command line:- apachectl -S This will show all virtual servers configured in Apache, and will break if there are any obvious problems in the httpd .conf files. It's very handy for testing a new configuration before restarting the server. With Mac OS X Server though, this doesn't work properly. Sure, I can run that command and see a virtual server or two, but with the introduction of the server Apache wrappers, the command line tools read a very different configuration than the `serveradmin` tool does.
e.g. Wrappers like:-<IfDefine MACOSXSERVER>
....
</IfDefine>
or <IfDefine WEBSERVICE_ON>
[code]....
ps. Running `sudo serveradmin stop web && sudo serveradmin start web` really compared to `apachectl graceful`; it's painfully slow and doesn't provide a way to test a custom configuration before attempting to restart.

Is there any way to retrieve the number of page hits from Server Admin? All I can seem to find is requests/second but would prefer to have page hit count instead. how to get this number via Server Admin
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to using Server admin on a remote Mac to manage our xserve. Both are running 10.6.8 and I've installed the Server Admin tools onto the mac. Both the Workgroup manager and Server Monitor work OK on the mac, but whenever I try and connect the Server Admin it always comes up with the error : "The login information is incomplete for this server or is not valid. The server failed to accept the login information you provided for <servername>. Check the name and password and try to log on again" I can't connect using the server name, FQDN, or IP address. The macs are all using OD and AD and I've tried both AD and local OD accounts (all administrative) but to no avail. DNS is working OK and I can resolve the server-name with dig and dig -x. I can screen share the server so connectivity isn't the problem.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy server is the Mac OS X Server 10.4.8. I created one new account for my client machine with its Workgroup Manager tool and set the Application access preferences.
But there is one item "Allow UNIX tools to run", I don't know how to verify its function. Other all could work very well. I ever tried such as ps, wc, tail in command, but they could still work.
i work at a school and at the moment we don't have a mac server, so i'm using server tools on each local machine to set group policies for active directory logins. I want geektool to be enabled on each user when they login, i've got this to work so far by running this applescript I found online
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a Parallels 4 VM for a Windows 7 x64 Build 7000 boot camp partition, but parallels tools will not install. Half way through the process, a windows unsigned driver security box pops up, and when I tell it to install anyway, it still rolls back the installation process and I get the message "An error has occured while installing parallels tools, click OK to restart your computer and try again." or something to that effect. I have tried this about 15 times, and I have tried uninstalling/deleting the VM and re-creating the VM to no avail.
What I want to know: Is there a way to manually install Parallels Tools while running in the boot camp partition, just like installing any other application? I want to install it outside of Parallels, since for some reason it keeps screwing itself up when trying to set up the drivers as a VM.
I just installed Windows 98 SE in the VMWare Fusion Beta (latest update), and it seems to work very well, except the fact, that whenever I ask it to install the tools, no setup windows pops up, as it says there will in the help file. I also tried Google, but noone else seems to have the same problem.
It really is a big problem, as I can't have a resolution above 640x480 and more than 16 colors, which prevents me from running my retro games like RCT and Theme Hospital.
On my Xserve, the Server Admin app has quit working. It wascomplaining that the servermgr_info plugin had failed. NowServer Admin reports the following message;
There is no server available at the address you entered. Xserve Dual 1.33GHz G4
10.4.8 Server Admin 10.4.7I have tried repairing permissions; rebooting; deleting the server admin preference file; ran fsck; using the FQDN, or the127.0.0.1 or hostname.local. Nothing works to get server adminto run again. Server won't run on the local xserve, or from another machine remotely.
First off: my apologies if this is a redundant post.... but I read through tons of posts with no luck in finding this one. I'm a 20+ year Mac user but new to server set up and this must have an easy answer.I got an "already set up" Panther server that was retired and put to pasture. I wanted to set it up in my home office for my kids to use with the various clients we have there. All I wanted to do was delete the server settings and start anew but am running into DNS issue with the previous server settings still being present in the server admin settings.I do not want this server "seen" outside my home network. I am connected to the net via a Westell 327W router. My internal clients need to see this "server" for AFP/file services but also need to access the web via the DHCP settings coming from the Verizon router.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt would appear that the new iPhoto app that is being prepared for cross-platform use is being optimzed for cross-platform as iWork applications have been. The tools for altering photos only has a fraction of the tools currently available in Aperture (and even less than available in platforms like Lightroom. There had been hope that with the new iMac Pro that there was going to be a supercharged version of Aperture...but no mention at that role out, nor in today's WWDC.

I am trying to get Subversion (versioning software) installed here at work and in my research I've found it's more secure to utilize Apache2 in conjunction with Subversion. With 1.3 being default on OS X Server I used [URL] Apache2 complete package to install Apache2. The install went great and I am able to view an index.html page put in the /Library/htdocs directory or wherever that is. But I was told for our configuration of sites, we need to use Server Admin. Is there a means to user Server Admin with Apache2?
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust began using a leopard machine and needed to install server admin in order to connect to our 10.3x server. I was forced to install the 10.5 version of Server Admin (10.4 would not install). I can connect using the Workgroup Manager and am able to use the Server Monitor app. When launching Server Admin. I cannot connect - receive message that no server is available at this address -- using the static IP address of our server.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Office 2007 Home and Student installed on Win XP pro through Bootcamp/Parallels. Everything works great except the dual screen presenter tools in PowerPoint. When booted into Windows on my MBP, no matter how I configure the second display in the control panels, PowerPoint refuses to present the slides on the external display, going to the projector. It always presents on the laptop screen, leaving the desktop image on the external output.
I know the second monitor is set up correctly, I can drag windows over to the other screen. The only way I can present is if I mirror the displays, but I'm so used to using the presenter tools in Office 2008 on the Mac side, and I need to be able to jump quickly to specific slides without the audience seeing it. Choosing the second monitor in the ribbon does nothing, and even weirder is that when I check "use presenter tools" it un-checks itself immediately.
I'm running VMware Fusion 2.0.5 and am trying to install VMware Tools in Ubuntu 9.04. I have found several sets of instructions, but they all seem out dated and I can't get any to work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am setting up OS X Server (Advanced configuration) on a Mac mini. At some time I added a group and then deleted it. I now wish to add this group again and the Workgroup Manager GUI claims that the Name and Group ID already exists although I seem to be able to re-use the Short Name. Also if I try to add group permissions to a shared folder using Server Admin this Group Name/Group ID appear in the list of groups. How can I tidy this up? Another variation of this occurs when I create a shared folder. This also appears as a group when adding group permissions, but not in Workgroup Manager. Why should this be?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have a local Admin account on all Macs, enterprise wide, for local and remote administration.
All Macs are joined to Active Directory. Our users DO NOT have Admin rights.
On ALL our LION Macs (10.7.4), when joined to Active Directory, we lose functionality to the local Admin account.
We can log into the local Admin account, but the desktop is useless. Nothing opens. We cannot create any files/folders without getting an Access Denied error.
AND then best part... everything on the Desktop, files/folders, are gone! Almost like a bran spankin' new account. With no access to anything locally.

I'm getting ready to migrate our company server to a new server box. I'm doing a complete clean install, and migrating specific information over (we had some corruptions from the initial installation Lion Server). All our users are in LDAP, not the Local directory, and I can't seem to figure out (and don't have the ability to test) if using the Ser Admin app's Archive feature of Open Directory, will include all LDAP information. My understanding is that if I create an archive and restore to it, then all of my users and there information will be put back like nothing happen, but can't get any clarification on it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Snow leopard server with a folder shared Via SMB for the 2 PC's we have, all the macs can read and write to this folder OK. About once a week the 2 pc's take 10 mins to start and then cannot connect to the share. Web/email and sharing betwen them still works. I can ping the server from both. I've turned off the smb and restarted it. Also tried restarting the Xserve. This still has no effect. All internal firewalls are off. I've tried guest access.
