I'm having trouble setting up multiple web sites on my new xserve. I've read the documentation, and it all seems pretty simple, but doesn't seem to work. Here's what I have done:
-Got everything up and running, and could see the default page for the web server.
-Set up my name server to point at it with it's name, and I could see the default page there.
That's when the first problem crept up. I'm migrating for a linux server running 200+ sites. I took one site that didn't get much traffic and moved all the files over to the new server, changed the document path to reflect it correctly, made the appropriate IP address changes in my name server, pointing that domain name at the new xserve. I enabled the web site, saved it, restarted the web server, and instead of the site showing up, the default page showed up....................
I have a few low traffic Wordpress sites I'd like to move to a Lion server I already have at MacMiniColo to try and reduce my costs.
Obviously I'll have to install MySQL and MySQL Workbench for the databases, which I'm fairly comfortable with, however I'm not sure what the best route for FTP access to the WP directories is. I've looked at Rumpus but it's just a little too pricy for my needs.
Now that I can no longer publish my iWeb sites via Mobile Me, I have tried to use the ftp server that I pay for through a site hosting service for my business (sitemason). Unfortunately, there is some "redirect" that I cannot find and it creates an index that makes the iWeb pages become my "Home" page. I don't need to override my existing website, I only want the iWeb pages to open when the links to them are accessed. Is this a simple issue or should i just pay some service to publish my iWeb content and keep it nested within my old site?
I've just enabled Web Shareing, I think for the first time, on an old Powerbook G4. From the links in the System Preferances panel, I was able to see the 'computer' web site, but not the 'personal' one. Taking the problem to be that described in [URL], I followed the instructions in [URL]
Rather than the 403 I was getting, I now just see 'Safari cant open the page [URL] because Safari cant connect to the server macintosh.lan.'running the apachectl configtest commend. I did that, and got the following:
/usr/sbin/apachectl: line 73: ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Invalid argument
Syntax error on line 1 of /private/etc/apache2/users/James.conf:
Invalid command 'James/Sites/"', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
macbook pro. running osx lion 10.7.3. google related sites are completely down, but when restarted into guest mode and launched through Safari it works just fine. Also broken in my apple mail account that is linked to Gmail. What gives? All other sites i've tested seem fine and i've tried multiple browsers. Pinging google doesn't send anything back. I'm at a loss. works ok through web proxy.
I'm having an issue where certain flash sites don't work properly, they just sit there loading and never actually do anything.
The vast majority of sites work just fine, youtube, google video, gamevideos.com, the escapist, etc..
But some sites such as [URL] simply will not play the videos.
In addition to that, [URL] will not work either, but there I at least get an error message stating that "flash local storage is not turned on". In this case I've tried to load the flash manager and turn it on, but after changing it and going back in, it seems that my changes were not saved and my local storage is stuck at 10k max.
The exact same sites work fine on my friends PC using my wireless connection.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall flash with no success.
I've tried both firefox and safari, neither work, but the flash stuff seems to be global on the machine, so I suspect it's more of a problem with the flash than with a specific browser.
I've even tried to run firefox as root, install flash as root, etc thinking that it was something to do with not having permission to write to wherever flash was trying to store stuff.
I've got Firefox 2.0.0.14, OSX 10.4.11, and Flash 9.0.124.0 installed.
I suppose I'm most concerned about pandora.com, but I think the video issues may be related to the "local storage" error I'm getting aswell.
My specs are as follows: Mac OS X 10.7.313" MacBook Air (2nd Gen)Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 320M 256MBFlash version: 11.1.102
A few months ago I noticed that Flash would not load videos on some websites (youtube works fine, but others sometimes show just a circle spinning). Normally I'd simply go to Firefox from Safari if I really wanted to watch a video. I did realize that the file that tends to not load usually encounters an error with the xml file. It usually says it could not find the host server by that name, but this happens accross multiple websites.
Now even Firefox has stopped working. I've tried unisntalling and re-installing flash, including older versions to no avail. I also attempted to clear the cache, delete flash folders in the library folder, etc. None of this has worked. The only other solution I've yet to try is that with the Lion update, you have to update your graphics card driver. I went to the nvidia website however, and for my graphics card they do not have a driver out yet.

I run 10.6.8 server in a VM with Parallels Server for Mac. Lithium pinged me early Monday morning to tell me that my calendar server wasn't reachable. I found it had kernel panicked. After resetting it and verifying the directory structure and permissions, it booted fine. But availability or free/busy wasn't working for all users! The events were all there. Invites could be sent and received but when a user checks for availability when creating events. they see the daily work hours grayed out but not anything corresponding to a scheduling conflict.
Things I have Tried:
- bounced ical server
- Rebooted the server
- checked the owners and permissions for the data store hierarchy. (_calendar:_calendar 750)
- checked for xattrs on .ics files in several calendars
- deleted .db.sqlite for several users in several dir in their calendar stores
- in the past I have found that some iTIP invitations seem to get "stuck' causing problems with an individual users free/busy and deleting the inbox resolves this so I deleted several inboxes
-I moved a copy of the data store to a test server and pointed several clients at it.
The issue persisted in all of these cases without any change in behavior with one exception; somewhere (i lost track of where) during this process users also lost their delegation preferences. I'd love to find out how and where that is stored so that it can be restored in the future. It seems pretty fragile...
I found one way to restore the functionality; copying a users __uid__/<GUID>/calendar out. . Moving all the folders under <GUID> out of the way and dropping the .ics files into ical with their account configured in that instance. Although this worked for selected users, I have many, many users and calendars so this solution would be suboptimal.
Since installing Filemaker Server 12 on our Lion Server 10.7.3, the Webmail is no longer working. I know with previous installations of Filemaker Server I have been asked whether I wanted to keep the system version of PHP or install PHP which comes with Filemaker Server, but I don't recall being prompted about it on this occasion. Previously I had always opted to retain the system PHP.
[code]...
And from the WAN I get just a screen saying webmail is turned off and that I can turn it on by using the Server app on the server (It is already checked in the server app).

i want to learn one think about Mac OS X Server 10.6.i have got 300 clients Windows and i want to setup Mac OS X Server work like a Active Directory same as Windows... (User's Account,Profile ....etc) is it possible with Mac OS X Server or not ?
Well I am building a file server/hackintosh. I want to run OS X and linux and possible windows. Is it better to just use separate smaller HDs are split a larger HD into thirds with a partition? Or does it even matter?
I manually put a couple of sites into the top sites area.. but then even after 'pinning' them into the sites area, they disappear when i re open safari.. it's really bugging me. can anyone help me out with this?
I am having difficulty binding clients to multiple open directory servers. All clients are running Lion. This issue did not occur under Snow Leopard. The servers are both Mac OS X Servers running Open Directory. There are two domains to which the client is successfully bound (DomainA and DomainB). If a user attempts to login using credentials from DomainB, they log in successfully but home folders are "not in the expected location" - so no data is present. If I unbind the client from DomainA and then attempt to login using credentials from DomainB, the issue is resolved. Is there a way to set a priority for how the client binds?
I'm new mac fan who has bought a macbook pro and thrown BG & MS out of my life, almost. The transition has been a little tough. I am finding some Mac things so easy. And other so hard. Apple Mail is giving me fits. In outlook express, I have 3 email accounts for various levels of privacy. All using verizon's outgoing mail server to send email. So, same username, pw & settings & outgoing Pop are the same on all 3 accounts. No problem in Outlook Express.
Mail says you cannot have the same username & pw& pop in 2 separate accounts whether it is outgoing or incoming pops/servers. On 2 accounts I have started using their own pop to send mail out. I still cannot get 1 account to email out. For 2 accounts I use onlymyemail to filter spam and then I download it from their incoming pop. So, these 2 accounts must have the same username and password and pop to download the filtered email. It seems like this whole thing is reversed. This should be a MS problem, and Mail should allow the same usname & pw on all accounts.
I have a small business with 4 computers. I'm wondering if I can keep all the user directories and shared files on a Mini with OS X server and also have the users share the applications that are on OS X server? Is this possible or can you only share the actual files, not the use of programs? I don't quite get why you'd have the user directories on the server rather than each computer.
Is it possible to create more than one email address for the same user? I want to be able to distinguish between emails originating from my website, or an email client as well as to identify different tasks for the same user - one for office administration, general information, etc...
I'd prefer to avoid creating non-existant "users" to represent tasks, if possible.
I am using Workgroup Manager to set the CatalogURL for software updates. Can I set multiple url's for software updates so if one address is not reachable the client will look for the next URL?
I recently took a position where the previous person didn't leave much in the way of processes or instruction. There are several existing domains, purchased from GoDaddy, hosted locally on our server. I am working on adding a new site and purchased the domain below. I have changed all the zone settings in GoDaddy's DNS manager and have duplicated an existing *.conf fie in the Apache2 folder making the changes within the file to the directory and the domain name. I have also added the directory and set it to be a sharepoint as well as adjusted the permissions.
I'm looking at OS X Server as a possible email server upgrade from an OLD Linux box. On our current server we have aliases setup to archive all incoming and outgoing email to another account. That one account then checks email via POP and then it is archived on another client computer for record keeping and CYA. It looks like this:
I recently started a position where the previous person left me very little information. I am not familiar with hosting locally as I have always used GoDaddy. There are several sites set up, so I have some "template" to go off of, but I need the basics. If i purchase the domain somewhere and the multiple sites are hosted on a single IP, how can I direct to a specific folder? Do I just create a folder within the volume all others are then make it a shared folder? Set the protocol options to match one that is alread there? Is there a beginers guide to this, and all the settings and options available somewhere?
I'm trying to setup a macmini server with four different firewire drives (has this working in 10.6.8 working great) however in lion server you can only have ONE timemachine backup destination.apple put an Share items/Backups folder with a .com.apple.timemachine.supported file in it. and set permissions to a group com.apple.backup_access However i can't dublicate this setup and have the system accept an extra folder on another drive.
I'm attempting to use 'round robin' DNS to load balance between the two ethernet adapters of an Xserve. Both ethernet adapters are connected to the same LAN and have static IP addresses of 192.168.2.250 and 192.168.2.251.The DNS zone for the server's local domain/host (macserver.private) has a machine record with both IP addresses (set up in the Lion Server UI).Having read up on round robin DNS, I would have expected DNS requests for 'macserver. private' to be answered with the two IP addresses ordered at random, achiving my aim of requests being served at random via each ethernet adapter.
However this doesn't seem to be the case. Doing a 'nslookup' from any of the network clients results in the two IP addresses being listed in the same order everytime. And pinging 'macserver.private' only ever results in a response from the same address.Does anyone know why this is the case? Does Lion Server use a non-standard DNS configuration? Are there any additional settings I need to configure in Lion's DNS server to make adopt a round robin approach to responding to requests?
I have iTunes 10.6.1 on my Macbook Pro and was using the multiple speakers feature with my 2 airport expresses very successfully until recently. Now when I try to use multiple speakers within iTunes it recognizes those speakers but can't connect. I've tried resetting both airport expresses but nothing. I have all the recent upgrades and haven't done anything out of the ordinary to change things up.
I also know it isn't the airport expresses because I have another product called Airfoil that streams music wirelessly from any source to those speakers via the airport express and that works fine. So it's definitely something specifically to do with iTunes.
One last thing, when I stream iTunes via the Airfoil I have no problems. So again, it's definitely something to do with iTunes.

Both cards in OSX are reported as they should be and show acceleration, etc.I've noticed that the couple of games I've tried on the OSX side don't work right (well don't display right anyway) plus more bothersome is the fact that in VMware Fusion (2.05) running XP with DirectX acceleration turned on for the virtual machine, *any* software that runs and tries to use DirectX makes Fusion throw an error about the virtual machine performing invalid operations. (the error is thrown on the OSX side, not in the XP virtual machine)
