Intel Mac :: Fast CPU Fan On Late 2009?

My CPU fan seems to be running fast a lot on my late 2009 IMac.  When I wake my system up in the morning the CPU fan is running at 939rpm.  After 20 minutes of surfing I can hear it and it is at 2456rpm.  All of the internal temps are around the same.

MacBook Pro :: Booting Time Not That Fast After Installing The New Intel 160GB Ssd?

Nov 5, 2010

I just replaced my HDD with the new intel 160GB SSD. Everything is amazingly fast except for the booting process.

After I shut down the computer(which is extremely fast, about 3 seconds), I start my MBP, yet what's been puzzling me is that the time between pressing the button and appearing of the Apple logo last at least 15 seconds, after that, everything is just normal (fast, fast!!).

I wonder if this is normal,

Intel Mac :: Wireless Keyboard Changes Configuration On 3 Fast Consecutive Caps

May 15, 2012

Upon 3 fast consecutive caps my keyboard changes layout automatically and there is no way I can change it back other than taking the batteries away and later putting them back. It is really annoying, especially because the backspace changes to forward space and the arrow keys have different functions. The keyboard has new batteries, changing language does not work, OS is 10.6.8 with all updates.

OS X :: What Speed Too Fast For 802.11g

May 7, 2009

I have a Time Capsule as my main router with a 802.11n (b/g compatible) network, with an Airport Express (802.11g) extending it. I have AT&T Elite DSL ("up to 6 Mbps") and according to both 2wire.com and speedtest.net, I'm getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 5.1 Mbps. When I hook my DSL directly into my computer via ethernet, I get the same results. I ran a few "real world" tests and found that the results I got were pretty accurate. I downloaded a 4.8 MB file in about 7 seconds and a 17.8 MB file in about 30 seconds. So my question is...at what speed does wireless n come into play? I'm getting close to the highest speed AT&T offers on a network that is, for all intents and purposes, a g network.

OS X :: Fast GPU Switching In SL?

Aug 14, 2009

When the MBPs came out with the dual graphics cards, people believed that they would be able to fast-switch between then. However, this is not the case; a logout-login is required to switch between the 9400M and 9600M GT on the MBPs. It was thought with the release of Snow Leopard this would be fixed.

So, has it been? will it be? Any word on using both graphics cards at the same time to boost performance?

Am I the only one, or does the SSD fill up faster than a standard HD? Right now I of course keep my iTunes library on an external drive, and soon I will do the same for my iPhoto library as well. That said, it seems that I loose space faster than I would expect, is that how these drives behave? All I can say is thank goodness I got the 256 GB model!

Mac Pro :: Clock Exactly Ten Minutes Fast

Jan 27, 2008

I've had my new Mac Pro 3.2 for one week now and I just noticed yesterday that the clock is exactly 10 minutes fast. I also have a Mac Book Pro and the time on that is correct. Both have the same software and all updates installed. Both are set to PST for the timezone. Both set date & time automatically using time.apple.com. (I've even tried changing the time server to asia and europe with no effect.) I'd like to believe it's so screaming fast that it's warped ten minutes into the future, but it's a tad annoying trying to sync files with my laptop and iDisk.

Mac Pro :: Fast 1TB Hard Drive?

What would be a good terabyte hard drive to use in my Mac Pro?

I want something that will be able to handle DV and HDV video editing really well.

So what is the fastest 1tb or higher drive I can get.

Looking to pay around $90-$150 on the drive.

I was looking at the SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB.

But I am not sure their would be a faster drive out there by now?

OS X :: How To Make Computer Run Fast?

Jul 12, 2009

alright... i got my MB in october 2007, and it ran great for about a year and half, but just recently, its been dogging and lagging so much, its bugging the crap out of me to the point where i borrowed my friends external HD and put all my important stuff on there, and erased and reinstalled mac OSX on there, and it still behaves the same way. my specs are in my signature so let me explain...

ill be running just itunes, ichat, and safari watching youtube videos or something, and the youtube vids just start skipping, and then the sound gets all distorted like it sounds like its underwater gargling. then i shut the macbook, reopen it, and its fine for about 2 or so minutes and then it does it again. or ill be listening to music via itunes, and reading some forums or the news or something, and when i scroll down, the music skips. its really annoying. i rarely get beach balling, but safari, or firefox, or itunes takes an eternity to load. and my fan allways seems like its on, and running hot as hell.

cpu user runs about 63% to 70% all the time
system about 15%

memory: active- .98 gb to 1gb
wired: 319 mb

temps: allways around 150 F or a little higher.

fans exaust- 6192 rpm

I have read some articles about RAID 0 on Mac Pro's but am a little confused. Setups that any of you use would be much appreciated.

Mac Pro :: Best Fast Hard Drive That Isn't An SSD?

Dec 28, 2009

I'm getting myself a new Mac Pro shortly and will be looking into faster hard drives.

I had an SSD in my last Mac Pro, and while it was fast (Gskill Falcon 128gb) it was just too small.

And to be honest I didn't find it *that* much faster is common use than the 150gb velociraptor.

Until the larger SSD's come down in price I'm going to go with something else. What would be my best choice. Is there anything better than the 300gb Velociraptor. I've read somewhere that there might be some 2tb drives that are nearly as fast. Is that true? I can't seem to find anything to really support that argument at the moment, other than hearsay and innuendo.

MacBook :: Pro Not Running As Fast As It Used To?

Feb 23, 2012

So I just bought a new Macbook Pro in September (MPB 15.4" CTO: 2.2Ghz Qaud-core i7 processor, 8gb 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 128GB SSD). This was my first apple laptop, and I was just amazed at how quick, smooth, and fluid everything was running (internet, apps, etc.). I ended up installing a few applications from the apple store, installing microsoft office, and partitioning my computer to use Windows 7 through bootcamp (for those windows-specific applications). I'm a student, but take all of my notes by hand; I bring my computer to class with me anyway. When I get home, I plug it in right away. It usually goes from full charge to 80% - 90% and then back to full charge everyday. Whenever I'm not using it I just shut the case and put it to sleep (never turn it off, always plugged in). Recently (In the past month or so), I've been noticing that if I leave Safari open for a few days and then keep using that same, open Safari application to browse the web, open new tabs, etc. it becomes slower to load pages (pretty much noticibly slower). Also, when I have a bunch of tabs, it tells me that I need to reload all of them because something went wrong with the one I was just loading. Also, when I'm multi-tasking; using Safari, and then working in Word, Word will not respond as quickly as it used to. So when I get annoyed that everything usually takes a few more seconds to load/respond, I restart the laptop (allowing all windows/apps to reopen upon restart), and then everything is smooth and fluid as the first day I bought it. I would like to know why this is? It kind of feels like I need to restart every 3-4 days to get everything going back to it's original fluidity. Is this normal behavior? Is it a rogue process slowing everything down? Now, when I say slowing down... by all means this doesn't mean unresponsive, just takes 3-5 more seconds to do things it normally would as if it were new. Is this just the way Macbook Pros work, and they clear some sort of "memory" file or "cached" process upon restart? Thanks for the input, I just want to be reassured it's not some sort of virus per se or some rogue app taking up memory. For the most part, my cup is broken up to: User 5%, System 5%, Idle 90% (although it could be more/less since I'm not constantly looking at it).
