I have had my macbook for a while and I needed windows for something so I decided to try out Bootcamp. I read that you are supposed to back everything up on Time machine so I tried that. I made a partition on my disk for everything to back up to. Unfortunately I did not leave enough space and time machine stopped. I tried to delete the disk and just create a partition for Windows, But I don't know how to delete it.

I recently bought my mother a Macbook. It was a store display one but she had no problems with that. Anyways when we first boot it up I noticed that on the desktop there is a Time Machine disk. So I openMacintosh HD that there is only 17 gbs free out of 33 gb, so I check System Profiler to see if there is a smaller hd in there but the it says that the hd is 150 gb.
So I'm wondering how to delete the time machine partition and resize the Macintosh HD partition so I can give her the most space she can get.
Is it possible without having to reformat my whole disk aka put osx back on there again?

With the fresh install of OSX, I inspected the partitions in Terminal and deleted most of them. However, there is a 200mb EFI partition still there. I have an early 2006 iMac with the notorious GPU issues so after replacing it with a new Mac Mini it's time to sell the iMac for parts. I'm trying to reformat the hard drive with no success - I boot off of the original Mac OS X 10.4.4 CD, launch Disk Utility, but whenever I try to erase the disk or delete the partition the program freezes. I've even tried using GParted Live! CD to delete the partition and the same thing happens - whenever I assess it, it locks GParted as well! Funny thing is, I can still boot off of the hard drive just fine.I should mention that the hard drive has 10.5.8 installed - perhaps there's an incompatibility between Disk Utility 10.4 and the installed OS?

I converted a 500G External USB SATA hard drive from MBR to GPT no problem. It could be done using either Vista 32bit or WinXP 64bit the conversion under XP Pro SP3 32bit was not possible maybe because diskpart was still an older version and not updated to a newer version. My work on the Mac is done now and I want to convert my drive back to MBR so I can use it with windows. I've erased and then deleted all the partitions I had created on the drive. Using WinXP 32bit and Disk Management I see only one big partition (465.76 GB Healthy (GPT Protective Partition)) Using WinXP 64bit and Disk Management I can see there is a 200Mb EFI Systems Partition followed by 464.44 Gb of Unallocated space. How do I get rid of this EFI Systems Partition that is stopping me when using diskpart to convert to MBR?
My sister bought a second hand Mac Book Pro. According to Mac Book Pro specs. this unit should have had a 250G - 320G Hard Drive but someone had replaced with a 120G before she got her hands on it. Bootcamp was previously setup such that there were two partitions; a Bootcamp and Mac partitiion.
In retrospect I would say foolishly, I created a third partition and formatted it as FAT; ideally so it could be used for common data between Mac and Windows. After I did that and restarted, I could not boot into Windows, it told me it was Non-Bootable.
I thought I would delete the partition and revert to the two partitions, but Disk Utility would not allow me to delete the newly created partition.Â
One more bit of information: rEFit was installed on the computer by a previous owner.Â
i.e., either get me back to two partitions such that I could boot into Mac or Windows or get to 3 partitions such that I could set the machine up with a common data partition for both Mac and Windows.Â

I installed Ubuntu on my Macbook but it didn't really work for me so I deleted it. I used Disk Utility to delete the Ubuntu partition, but when I want to delete a Linux-swap partition I made while installing Ubuntu nothing happens. I press the minus button and it will delete it. I partitioned my MacBook Pro into 2 volumes so I could dual boot Mavericks and Yosemite Developer Preview. After testing Yosemite, I found out that it was stable enough to run on my main partition. I installed it on my main partition replacing Mavericks and deleted the second partition which included Yosemite. While deleting, somehow I was left with an empty partition called "Free Space" which I cannot delete. Â Â
I am pretty sure the problem isn't related to Yosemite being a developer preview as it could've happened under an previous stable OS. How can I merge my "Free Space" partition with Macintosh HD?Â

I have a 3 TB hard drive which I'd previously partitioned into a 1 TB and a 2 TB partition. I've emptied and erased the 2 TB compartment, but when I go to the partition section on Disk Utility, and select that partition (now called Free Space) and select it, only the + button is alive, and the - button is greyed out.Â
