May 30, 2012What i want to do is i dont want Time Machine to backup my bootcamp partition (win 7 with ntfs format). but when i click on option, the time machine will automatically include it. and i canNOT remove it. the miuns ( - ) symbol is gray out and i cant do anything with it. how can i not include the bootcamp partition in my backup? if it still not clear, you can reply and ask me more about it.

Can I initialize the Lion partition with Disk Utility in the Recovery HD and re-install Lion without affecting Windows? Will it work correctly after this operation? Or I need to delete the Boot Camp partition first, and recreate it at the end of the whole process?

I'm trying to create a Boot Camp partition but I'm unable to make one large enough. Using the Book Camp disk tool, I'm not able to create a partition larger than 68GB.
When I open disk utility, it shows me that ~250GB are used as a startup partition. Is this standard for Lion? My hard drive shows ~203GB free so space shouldn't be an issue. The disc utility tells me the startup partition cannot be resized, locking up the ~250GB so I'm unable to do anything.
Is there a way to resize this startup partition or is my only option getting a larger hard drive. My goal was to make ~100GB partition for Windows and Boot Camp. I used debug in disc utility to look at any hidden partitions but they only amounted to ~250MB, not effecting much.

Jan 13, 2010I attempted to install Windows 7 using bootcamp assistant with a 5GB partition. I got halfway through the Windows 7 install when I got an error message, saying that Windows needs 8284 megabytes to install. I want to delete the current partition and create a larger partition to complete the install.
However, when I run bootcamp, I get "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."
I tried deleting the partition using disk utility, didn't work either.
How can I fix this?

May 30, 2012Bootcamp was previously setup such that there were two partitions; a Bootcamp and Mac partitiion.
In retrospect I would say foolishly, I created a third partition and formatted it as FAT; ideally so it could be used for common data between Mac and Windows. After I did that and restarted, I could not boot into Windows, it told me it was Non-Bootable.
I thought I would delete the partition and revert to the two partitions, but Disk Utility would not allow me to delete the newly created partition.
One more bit of information: rEFit was installed on the computer by a previous owner.
i.e., either get me back to two partitions such that I could boot into Mac or Windows or get to 3 partitions such that I could set the machine up with a common data partition for both Mac and Windows.

I used Disk Utility to delete the Ubuntu partition, but when I want to delete a Linux-swap partition I made while installing Ubuntu nothing happens. I press the minus button and it will delete it. But after deleting it just stays there, and I can't change the partition in any way. How can I delete the partition?

Aug 27, 2014I have Windows 7 installed on my sons MacBook Pro.
The Drive is partitioned at 500GB for Windows and 300GB for Mac.
In windows, I need to shrink the Windows drive, and then create 2 extra drives from it.
However, I can shrink the drive, but when I try to Format, it tells me that it cannot find the drive, and then it changes the drive types to all "Dynamic" including the Mac Drive.
And once this happens, I can no longer access the Mac drive during Boot, and windows will not load, as it cannot find the drive during windows boot up. And which point, I have to restore the system and it takes up to 6 hours to installed Lion, as my Internet is slowing that a cold winters day.
So, my question is the following.
How can I successfully shrink the drive.
Then Partition the FREE space
Then Format to NTFS without loosing drive type and integrity?

I've emptied and erased the 2 TB compartment, but when I go to the partition section on Disk Utility, and select that partition (now called Free Space) and select it, only the + button is alive, and the - button is greyed out.
How can I delete this entire partition?

the WinClone came from a 500GB internal drive and ive gotten winclone images to restore to a MBP before but not sure why its giving me this error code, anyway to restore the image to the new partition (which was created with Bootcamp) as i no longer have access to the old machine it was running on.

Can I add a third partition to my drive after I partition for BootCamp? My main partition ("Macintosh HD" by default) is over 900GB large and I'd really like to cut that up into 2x450GB, for example, in addition to the 93GB BootCamp partition.
Second, once partitioned, is it possible to resize the BootCamp partition to make it bigger after it has been set up?

Aug 5, 2009I have a 13" MBP with a 250 gb hd, I partitioned the HD 25gb for Windows XP shortly after I bought it. I was unable to install my copy of windows, contacted apple after exhaustive search as to why... Long story short, I now have Vista to install... When I went back to Boot Camp Assistant; partition was gone. Researched... ran disk utility, repaired and erased partition. Bootcamp HD now shows up in desktop, still not in bootcamp assistant. Since I am unable to locate in assistant; would there be any problems with just installing Vista off the install disk by restarting? Any ideas what to do if this is not a good idea (short of restoring)?

Jan 30, 2009Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?

Jan 9, 2009I recently bought my mother a Macbook. It was a store display one but she had no problems with that. Anyways when we first boot it up I noticed that on the desktop there is a Time Machine disk. So I openMacintosh HD that there is only 17 gbs free out of 33 gb, so I check System Profiler to see if there is a smaller hd in there but the it says that the hd is 150 gb.
So I'm wondering how to delete the time machine partition and resize the Macintosh HD partition so I can give her the most space she can get.
Software :: OEM And Bootcamp Format The Partition That Bootcamp Created
May 3, 2009Bought an OEM version to use with bootcamp. Everything works fine up to the point where it is supposed to let me format the partition that bootcamp created. The XP installation just skips right from when I select the C:yatta-yatta/bootcamp partition and starts installing. So obviously the partition is not bootable... Does anyone know if this is because the OEM version of the OS or something else. I tried to reduce the size of the partition because I read a thread about FAT32 not playing well with disc sizes greater than 32Gb. Still didn't work...
