I am thinking about purchasing an iMac for Christmas (I already have a couple of laptops). I have a couple questions: I'd like to run Mac OSX Server in a Virtual Machine on the iMac. Can this be done? What software do you recommend? I'm thinking about using an Xserve at work, but I have nowhere to test the software before purchasing. How good are the internal speakers on the iMac? Do I need external ones?

I haven't posted in a while, but now I have a question for you all.
I just started a new job, that requires the use of my macbook, and I would like to keep my home and work systems completely separate. My first thought was to install Snow Leopard in a virtual machine on my mac. I already have Parallels 5 for a bootcamp installation, so I tried using Parallels to install SL. No dice, it only works with SL Server. I have two separate SL discs, both standard versions.
I've searched the forums and haven't come across any results for running SL in a virtual machine that is installed in SL.
This is child's play on Windows machines, but seems pretty difficult for OSX. Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations for VMs that will work for this application?
I am an IT student who is studying Vmware, Oracle11g, MCITP, Linux ,CCNA, and etc.. Is it good to have a "Built To Order MacBook Air 13"" (256GB SSD 4GBram 2.1GHz C2D ) to run a windows server 2008 virtual machine with oracle 11gR1 installed on it? Or is it better to run that VM on a mac book pro 17" (Core i7 2.66CPU, 4GB ram ,500GB 5400rpm harddrive)? or 7200rpm HD? Air got a faster Storage drive (SSD) but slower CPU. Pro got a faster Cpu but slower storage drive (HD drive). I am so confused>< Pro or air which one has a better performance for running that vm? which one's battery life last longer for running that vm?

Situation: no sound out from speakers in admin and user account and newly created account. Headphones work, startup chimes work on speakers.
Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.
I've set up a brand new Mac Mini and I'm trying to enable virtual hosting. [URL]But this is for 10.5 and 10.6 and although I got it working with 10.6, I can't make it for 10.7. I am able to setup the account, send emails but when people send emails to my virtual domain they get this message: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table (in reply to RCPT TO command)

I had a DNS server issue so I cleared out the named dir and created new db files. The server is showing up properly in the Server App but when I ping mail.internalserver.com, it comes back with the external address. I ran a dig on it and it showed the DNS server as 4.2.2.1 instead of 192.168.1.2. Any idea why it's ignoring the internal DNS I setup? No errors in the logs. It just doesn't ping using the internal server.

I installed Vitural PC on a G5 machine running Tiger 10.4 OS. It works fine as I installed WINDOWS XP and Microsoft Outlook2003. Outlook works great when it connects to Exchange 5.5. However, The user who I am supporting wants to attached files stored in his Mac. to send in Outlook. Under Vitural PC menu, there is a way to transfer files from PC to Mac. (basicly drag and drop works!). The problem is I can not fine a way to tranfer files from Mac to the Vitural PC. What do I have to do to make this work?

Sound isn't coming out of my internal speakers. When I hook up headphones everything is fine, but when I'm on the computer itself, no sound comes out, a red light is coming from my headphone jack, and the volume controls don't do anything (volume stays at max and there's a white circle with diagonal sign thru it, like a no smoking sign) and I don't get sound.

Anyone knows what's up with that? Cause the weirdest thing is that they will make that mac sound when you first press the "on" button.

I have noticed that I am having problems with the audio, there is no audio from the internal speakers at all and when ever I boot up in vista the audio jack has a red light coming out of it...This only occurs in bootcamp and if i go back to OSX the problem disappears
I have installed the latest driver from realtek and have tried to fiddle with the audio jack using cotton buds etc, but nothing seem to work... are there any other ways from rectifying this?
I was watching a movie on the bus using my headphones earlier today, and when I got home just now, the internal speakers aren't working. There is a red light coming from the headphone port and the volume can not be adjusted. Is there a software fix, or do I have to take this thing to the genius bar? I restarted the computer, still no dice.

The sound from the internal speakers in my old iMacs is pretty acceptable for day to day usage (not playing music of course), but the new one sounds horrible... extremely tinny. So is this just what they're all like these days? If not I guess it's got some issues:-/

Run the update (10.6.2) - reboot - "sound effects" and "output" changed from "line out" to "internal speakers". What's up with that? I have 24" aluminum imac (bought December 2007, whichever model that is), and I was using the internal speakers (I don't normally do this). I was playing an avi file (xvid / mp3 encoding) on VLC.app, and i struck the space bar to pause it. Instead of stopping, my comp emitted an extremely loud "beep" sound at around 400 Hz, and ever since the audio has been weird. At first it was sorta/really scratchy and broken and a little diminished in loudness, but now it is very quiet, playing sounds at around 1/4 the normal volume. What the hell happened to it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe internal speakers on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.5) are not functioning at all.The 1/8" jack works fine with external speakers and headphones, although there is a red light in the jack when nothing is plugged in. The light does remain turned off for a moment after anything is unplugged, but when I try to raise the volume on my keypad the light returns and the volume indicator displays a gray, not white, speaker with a crossed circle under the volume bars. Can anyone advise me on how to rid my machine of this terrible red light and return audio to my internal speakers?

So the sound on my Macbook Pro is NOT working. I went to the sound settings and the internal speakers option under output is gone. I reset the PRAM and when it did its "second boot", the apple sound played just fine. As soon as I logged in again, the option is still gone and I am getting no sound.

So I got the iPad next, last week I went and got the top of the line iMac 27" with the i7 quad... and this past friday, I purchased the Mac Mini Server I bumped the mem up to 8gigs... So let me get to my questions...
I have been running CentOS with Directadmin CP for several years for hosting. I want to start virtual hosting with OS X Server...
When I install the DA control panel on centos, there is the 2 main DNS servers I have to setup which points to the local machines 2 ip addresses dedicated for dns...
I can't find how to add these in OSX and do initial setup for virtual hosting.
Also, In my linux server, every user has a unique system account, user, group per account. Is that how I should setup users/groups for virtual hosting on OSX?
Last of all, are there any documentation for step by step setup of OSX for a virtual hosting platform?
I'm not getting no where on what I have found in google.
Does anyone know how one can use both the internal laptop speakers AND the external speakers connected through the 3.5mm audio port? My speakers are spread around the room and this would be a good way to get a more '3D feel' of the music.
My internal speakers in my PowerPC G4 just magically stopped working! It recognizes them in system preferences. And yes, the volume is up. I dont know what happened. The headphones do work. I havent tested external speakers yet, but that's next on the list.

When this is plugged in it sends everything playing on my MBP to the speaker. This is great but I would also like the music to play from my laptop speakers at the same time.

1- Under sound in system preferences- output volume is muted and I can't un-click it
2-Also under sound in system preferences no devices are found under output and input
3-The sound symbol doesn't show in the top toolbar.
Also I googled this same problem and a lot of other people say a red laser is coming out of the head jack on the computer, I however don't have this problem.
I can't hear any sounds on my macbook, only if i plug in my earphones.

I was just fiddling with mine while playing some music in itunes and discovered the speakers sound quite different with the left well rounded and solid and the right sounding less deep and more hollow. Neither speaker distorts or sounds bad in isolation but they do sound different to each other. Has anyone else noticed this?
