So, with new UMBP, i saw the RAM is now expandable up to 8 gigs. Seeing as how it is practically the same hardware as the UMB, is the UMB expandable to 8 gigs??? I believe officially, they were only supported to 4, but if 8 is possible, I would love to get 8. Any thoughts/concrete knowledge on this topic?

This has probably already been asked before, but I can't find if it supports the 2006 Mac Pro models? Wait nevermind. It says that it supports 2008 and 2009 on Apple's website. Darn! I wonder if it will work anyway? If someone tries it please let me know.
I don't know if this will work but would it be possible to use the EFI firmware from the GT8800 and flash it onto the GTX285 mac Edition? or something? to make it work on the Macpro 1,1 (2006-2007 Mac Pro Users)
When Windows 7 arrives on October 22, assuming you're updating to it: Which edition best fits your needs? I'm a power user, so Windows 7 Ultimate is the obvious best fit for me.
The 8800GT in my Mac Pro 1,1 just died. I'm back up with the 7300 for now.
Can I adapt the EVGA's GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition for use? It comes with the cables, and I more than willing to pay the extra $$$ to save myself hunting around for parts.
I'm also a bit confused about the 4870 upgrade. Does the Apple version work out of the box on my 1,1? If so, maybe that's the way to go for now?

Does anyone know how Boot camp and pre-activated copies of WIndows Xp are? DO the two mix well?
At my school we can buy these copies called Win XP sp2 Student edition since were students in a special program. This copy is supposed to be used to teach us the installation process of windows Xp on PCS but since i was able to buy one now i was wondering if it will work on my iMac.
Has anyone tried connecting a WD My Book Studio Edition external hard drive to one computer via USB and to another computer via FireWire 800 simultaneously?
What are the chances that both computers would be able to access the drive simultaneously?
I just got a Western Digital My Book World Edition II 2TB Hard Drive and I'm trying to get it all set up. I'm having some problems. 1. I wanted it to back up my iTunes library which is on a external hd. I cant figure out how to get it to do that. 2. I'd like to have my iTunes music, tv shows, and videos able to be played on my PS3.
I am looking for a copy of either Windows 7 or Windows XP to put on a Mac. I keep seeing the words 'OEM' and 'System Builder's Edition' popping up in my search results. What do these phrases mean? Are these illegal copies of the operating system? Would these work for what I am trying to do?
Specifics of my own issue: new iMac 20 (latest iteration, firmware up-to-date), OSX 10.6.2 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Recently instaled Snow Leopard. Purchased: WD My Book Studio 1Tb.
I just got myself a WD My Book World Edition II 1TB ethernet HD. I can connect to it fine from my MacBook, but on my G5 its a different story. I see the drive on the Network. I then double click on it and get the prompt for the usergroup, username and password, type in the info and I get a error saying it can't see it. What am I missing? OS is 10.4.9 on G5 and 10.4.10 on MacBook.
Information: Power Mac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9) Dual 2.0 GHz
Is it possible to connect my WD ext. HD to my Router (FritzBox 7140) over USB and use an app to download torrents (like transmission) directly to my ext hdd and not to my macbook first???
Anyone running windows 98 second edition on your Mac Pro. I installed Fusion 3 and found in my old CD box, a copy of windows 98 SE and a bunch of old games like Duke nukem 3d etc..
Anyone able to get the sound driver to work. And where do you download the sound drives? VMware tools does not seem to include it.
I recently posted a question regarding an Apple DVI-ADC converter/adapter. It appeared the adapter wasn't working until I found out my ATI Radeon X1900 G5 Mac Edition, (which I just installeld), isn't functioning properly. In this screen shot you'll see the resolution is stuck at one setting with no options:

And in this screen shot I was reminded about a problem with the data displayed in the system profile:[URL]However, the data/description error is not my main concern. I'm wondering if I need to download this driver to correct the card's malfunction?

I was keeping this card as a spare, (since they're rare as gold). BTW, when I put the stock OEM GeForce 6600LE 128MB PCIe back in, I was able to adjust the screen resolutions for both a 20" Cinema Display, and a 17" LCD Studio Display, and got the DVI-ADC adapter to work.
I've only had this drive for a few weeks, but I've noticed a tendency for the thing to always be running even when there's nothing for it to do. The head will click and gronk around continuously, the status light cycling over and over again. This generates a fair amount of heat in the drive after a while, and I imagine it'll wear down a lot faster if this keeps up. I've tried several different approaches to solve this, including many wipes and reloads. At its worst, the drive would grind away even if the computer was asleep or the drive disconnected from the computer. A few times this happened immediately following a reformat on a supposedly "erased" (but not zeroed) disk.
Nothing seemed to solve it. Western Digital recommended that I try plugging it into a different outlet, which I did. This has calmed it down somewhat, but the problem mostly persists, and I continue to get frequent "drive in use" errors when I attempt to eject the disk, even though as far as I can tell nothing is using it. One odd note: earlier today as it was chugging away, I quit the one program open besides the Finder (DragThing), and the churning immediately ceased. It's quiet for now, even after reopening DragThing, but I'm just waiting for something to get it all riled up again. I've observed this behavior on a Power Mac G5 running 10.5.8 and a March 2009 Core Duo iMac with 10.6.2. I'd really rather not ship it back to WD just yet.
im concidering upgrading from the 250gb Hard drive i have(i believe) to somethin alot bigger say 500Gb to terabyte? on my 2.4 Ghz UMB. now im not quite sure, but the highest im going to be able to go right now is 500Gb right?i cant find a 2.5" SATA 7400rpm that is above 500Gb.So how long is it going to take before i can get a decent 750Gb or 1T?in case your wondering, im planning on devoting a 10Gb or so to a Windows portion via bootcamp, and spliting the other portion so that i can have a time machine drive on my MB
So just got my new MacBook Pro yesterday and loving it! I just got VMware Fusion and have a quick question (just don't want to mess anything up).
I have the Windows XP Black Edition image file, when I hit "Continue without Disk" on Fusion, next options are "Use installation disk image file", "Use existing virtual disk" or "Create custom virtual machine".
If I just have the .iso, what option should I go with?
If you try configuring a new macbook pro through the education store, I get all the usual student discounts and stuff. Now, like usual, they also have the option to get microsoft office preinstalled on my laptop too. However, clicking on it, does not add to the price at all (like its free....) but I can't see any promotion of this being free. Is this just my browser being weird or is this legit?
I am having some issues with my macbook pro 2012 edition. It is often shutting down/restarting unexpectedly. When it is on charger or when I had put it to sleep after attempting to power it up, its shut off and recovers where it was left off.
