If you try configuring a new macbook pro through the education store, I get all the usual student discounts and stuff. Now, like usual, they also have the option to get microsoft office preinstalled on my laptop too. However, clicking on it, does not add to the price at all (like its free....) but I can't see any promotion of this being free. Is this just my browser being weird or is this legit?

Do you know if MS Office for Mac 2008 has language options? Or does it come in English only?
I'm referring to the interface language as opposed to spell/grammar check settings on MS Word for example. I want to install MS Office in the German language, but I am here in the US. Any advice on how I can get the German version here?
When reading the setup guide for bootcamp, the page that lists what you need for the process says "Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later" is required...However, the installation disk that came with my Windows XP reads Service Pack 1, Version 2002.What should I do? Can I proceed with Service Pack 1? If not, how do I get service pack 2?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI benched tested the new GTX 285 Mac Edition and the 8800 GT Mac Edition using X-Plane.
I used the same version (9.22 rc1) for both OS X 10.5.7 and Boot Camp WinXP.
I flew in North Dakota in order to eliminate as many objects and scenery as possible thereby making X-Plane as efficient as possible.
The flight was from Grand Forks (KGFK) to Crookston (KCKN). The length of the flight is 23.59 nautical miles and took 7 1/2 minutes.
I used a King Air B200 with a ground speed of 240 knots.
The renderings (1600 x 1200, 8xAA) and weather was exactly the same in both OS X and WinXP.
I flew three times for each video card and each operating system for a total of 12 flights. I averaged out the fps.
The 8800 GT Mac Edition is 2.3 times faster running under Boot Camp (WinXP) than the same 8800 GT running under Mac OS X 10.5.7.
Running under the same OS (Mac OS X 10.5.7), the GTX 285 Mac Edition is 2.7 times faster than the 8800 GT Mac Edition.
Running under the same OS (Boot Camp WinXP), the GTX 285 Mac Edition is 1.6 times faster than the 8800 GT Mac Edition.
My conclusion is the NVIDIA cards run much faster under Windows than they do with Mac OS X.

so ive been searching around the web and i cant find a trial for this, i've looked everywhere! i heard this is buggy so i want to try out beforebuying, help me out homeboys
View 19 Replies View Related im in search of a mac. Not going to go over specs but anyway. As a pc user looking for an upgrade and to try something different, i have now come to the crossroad on what to buy for word processing and the works. Now i have been using office 2007 for the past year and a half and have rehabilitated to the new format. Since the pc version of office 2007 will not run on a mac and i will be forced to pay $150 for the one for the mac. Which is better. I works it only $100 in Canada (going to make that clear i live in Canada) Will i miss Office 2007 or will i work be something that i will enjoy to work with.
im concidering upgrading from the 250gb Hard drive i have(i believe) to somethin alot bigger say 500Gb to terabyte? on my 2.4 Ghz UMB. now im not quite sure, but the highest im going to be able to go right now is 500Gb right?i cant find a 2.5" SATA 7400rpm that is above 500Gb.So how long is it going to take before i can get a decent 750Gb or 1T?in case your wondering, im planning on devoting a 10Gb or so to a Windows portion via bootcamp, and spliting the other portion so that i can have a time machine drive on my MB

It won't eject because it doesn't recognise it. I've tried putting a DVD in to see if it would eject with that put it just ejects the DVD.

I just removed over 1000 cookies. They were bogging the system down to the point of having some pages freeze. I then closed Safari. I launched Safari again a few minutes later and all the cookies were back, even though the only site I went to was the Apple open page.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using a 20" white intel iMac and cannot manage to remove a linux boot disc from the optical drive. At first, the only way that i managed to boot to the linux disc in the first place was from the Startup Disk menu in OSX. I could not even get to the Startup Manager ('opt' at boot) or boot straight to the disc ('C').Now i'm in a position where no matter what i do, the system boots to the linux disc. I cannot even force the startup into OSX to try to eject the disc from there. I've tried holding all of these keys/combinations at startup

I can mount and access it easily using SMB from my ubuntu machine straight in. However the mac finder server connect tool keeps insisting I put in a userid and password for the drive when I dont have one.....and whether i put in nothing or admin or even tell it im a guest it just says it cant connect.
As I said connection via ubuntu works easily....

At home, I can access Synology 210j NAS through the browser and by mapping it - When I'm away from home I can already access my Synology NAS through browser, BUT
IS THERE A WAY TO ALSO MAP IT ?
VMWare can't find it's virtual file on the NAS through the browser. It will find it, when it is mapped and mounted

View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody know when Microsoft plans on releasing a newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac? One of my co-workers currently own the 2008 version and he's really unhappy with it. He has an excel file that's around 4MB in filesize, containing some 11,000 rows and a bunch of columns too and it's really slow to work with (he has a 1 year old MacBook Pro) and some times excel also "runs out of memory" it says and the application just freezes. It should be updated properly etc, but I wonder if maybe a newer version more suited for Snow Leopard, might be released soon?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm preparing to restore my MacBook Pro to factory settings, so I'm putting all the files i'd like to keep onto an external hard drive. I know it's a really dim question but I was wondering if I save Microsoft Office onto the hard drive, am I able to use it again? Obviously at the time I purchased it I used a purchase key thingy, so I wasn't sure if I would have to re-install it and it would ask for another key...
