OS X :: "Preference Sync Client" Eating RAM - Crashing Randomly

Jul 12, 2008

I am running 10.5.4 now, did iTunes 7.7 update and the MobileMe update.

However, the problem occured before all that, I think it first occured after my first .mac sync on this machine (Macbook 2.16, 2GB Ram)

What is happening now is that sometimes a process called Preference Sync client eats all my RAM (up to 1GB real and 2GB virtual) and crashes randomly.

I can't tell what could be the reason for this...?

Maybe anyone has an idea.

I tried permissions and restart etc. Always occurs again.

OS X :: Preference Sync Client Unexpectedly Quits Every Hour?

Dec 1, 2007

After upgrading my MacBook Pro to Leopard I get an alert every single hour that says 'Preference Sync Client' has unexpectedly quit. Searching around Google and the Apple site I can find absolutely no reference for this application/service. I'm assuming it must be an Apple file ... I am wondering if I just need to track down a copy of it and replace mine -- is that safe?

File is located here:/System/Library/CoreServices/PreferenceSyncClient.app/Contents/MacOS/PreferenceSyncClient

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)

Any ideas of where to start looking to solve this problem?

OS X :: MobileMe Sync Error Message - System Preference

Oct 31, 2009

I am getting an error on my iMac (running SL) that says: "You entered an invalid MobileMe member name or password. Verify your MobileMe member name and password in MobileMe System Preferences." Now, the thing is, I don't not have (nor have I ever) had a MobileMe account. This error only starting popping up after upgrading to Snow Leopard. It only gives me the option of clicking OK and pops up about every half hour or so.

I've check the MobileMe preferences and there is nothing entered in the username or password slot. I called AppleCare and they were not really familiar with the error either but gave me two options. They asked me to
(1) Reset my keychain to defaults and if that didn't work then
(2) Delete the SystemPreferences.plist file. I have done both and the error message continues to pop up.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Sync Between Client And Domain Controller?

Feb 15, 2012

Is there a command to force time sync on Snow Leopard machines? I have lots machine which are joined to windows domain controller using third party utility (AdmitMac by Thursby). Even though under Day & Time system preference, I have set the machine to sync to our server but machine are still not correcting the time.

I have tried following methods to force the machines to sync: I have manually selected the machine to sych with Apple but that does not change the time at all (even after couple of reboots)Changing the date and time to something completely different (year, month and day) then rebooted machine then force it back to our server but that does not change machine time either.Only thing which has worked so far is that I have manually adjusted that time to match the next working machine. All of this has caused me lot of trouble in Mac labs because machine will not allow anyone to login and I have remove it from the domain and then re-join back.

OS X :: Something Keeps Eating Up My HDD Space?

Aug 25, 2010

I've got a problem that is really getting on my nerves now and I have no idea what is causing it.

Basically I will have switched on my MBP with around 2-3GB of HDD space free, and after working on it for around 2-3 hours with applications that shouldn't demand any space whatsoever (Firefox, Safari, Preview), I get that little OS X error that tells me I have limited space left.

As I mentioned before I have no idea why this is happening. Has anyone experienced anything similar, as I'm desperate for a solution. I can't keep deleting important personal files every few hours in order to keep the system running.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mac Is Eating Up Memory?

May 7, 2012

I recently filled my scratch disks, thinking it was due to all the photos I have on my MAC, i began moving them all to a backup external hard drive and then removing them from my MAC. I managed to move about 60GB of photos off my machine and contined using my MAC as usual. The next day after adding nothing or even using my mac my memory has somehow filled itself back up and i now have only 1GB left on my hard drive with nothing to show from it. I thought it may be a virus and have ran Sophos anti virus software but found none. what i can do to stop my mac from being so memory hungry?

MacBook Pro :: Quicktime--Shockwave--eating Up RAM

Apr 5, 2012

I have a program called Free Memory. It shows you how much available RAM you have left to use.  Last week, my available RAM, which is usually somewhere between 3GB-5GB, was down at about 250MB!  I checked the RAM usage in Activity Monitor, and it showed that Quicktime was using about 5GB of RAM.  Yes 5GB.I closed Quicktime and the RAM jumped back up.I reopened it and I could actually watch as my RAM just poured off.  In less than 2 minutes, it went from 5GB available to about 100 MB again.Today, the same thing happened, but the RAM sucker was Shockwave.  Has anybody heard of this happening before?  If so, what is the solution? Here is some more info.  In the "console" I often get these --- Exception Type:

EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)A few months back, the Genius Bar people wiped my hard drive clean and we reloaded my stuff from a back up.  Maybe there are still issues.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Cache Eating HDD?

Jun 26, 2012

I downloaded this program that would back up my computer at 3:30 every morning. It was a scheduling app for Time Machine, so it didn't want to back up at inconvenient times. The trouble is that it eats hard drive space all day long. I can't figure out why? It will eat about 30 GB until disk is full and then reset. If I restart it resets. Then slowly climb it's way back down to near full.

So I tried deleting the program that does it. It's still eating my hard drive space and telling time machine to start at 3:30 in the morning. I have no idea what the program was called. Time Machine Scheduler I think. Either way, it said it would clear my preferences once I deleted it which it did not. Now I can't find the company that made the program to email them. There is nothing in my apps. Not sure what to do to reset it.

Also, will the eating of HDD space happen with every Time Machine Scheduler? Having a back up at 3:30 am is really helpful for me but it is not helpful if Time Machine is constantly preparing for it in the background, which slows the computer down and is worse than the inconenience of Time Machine backing up when it wants.

OS X :: Time Machine Eating Disk Space / Eat GB's Of Hard Disk Space While Preparing Backup

Dec 11, 2009

whenever I run Time Machine on my PowerBook G4 (1.5 Ghz / 1Gb RAM / OSX 10.5.8) it will eat up GB's of hard disk space while 'preparing the backup'. After that it finishes the backup, but I don't get the space back. I'm talking about the internal HD, not the external target disk of course. Does Time Machine use the space to generate some temporary files? Any ideas how I can get my disk space back
