OS X :: Partition Disappeared While Merging / System Showing Only 16 Gb
May 9, 2010
So I had my iMac set up with two partitions.
1 - OS disk 160GB
2 - Other 500GB
Please note the 'Other' partition was empty.
I either didn't research that well, or read the instructions I found by googling. But I had tried to merge the two partitions.I clicked on the main drive (WD 640GB) in disk utility - Clicked on the partition tab - the chose 'other' and clicked the minus sign... Something went wrong from here.
Now Disk Utility shows the main drive (WD 640GB) as 640GB.But I click on OSX - It still only shows 16GB
I have lost the other 500GB. Im not sure how to get it back..
The situation I'm in is pretty akward and it's quite a long story but I'll try my best to explain everything. This afternoon I went to a friend's house to transfer some data to my external hard drive (MyBook Studio).Since my HD is formatted as HFS+ and my mate owns a Windows PC, I'd asked him to install MacDrive.
When we plugged in my HD, Windows just didn't detect it. We tried all sorts of things, including rebooting.. but nothing seemed to help. No matter what we did. The damn thing just didn't detect my hard drive. Not even with MacDrive.
I desperately wanted to transfer some data to my HD since I'd drove quite a while to get there. So after a bit of Google research we decided to create a partition. My HD has a capacity of 1 TB and only about half of it was being used.So we went on and created a NTFS partition of 400 GB. Now Windows could detect the partition we'd just made.
Everything went fine, we could now transfer some data to my HD.Nevertheless.. when I got home and connected my HD to my Macbook Pro, Finder could only see the partition which we formatted as NTFS. The other 600 GB, which we hadn't touched.. is nowhere to be found.
There's quite a lot of important data on there so I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me.
Anyone know of a stable program to let me edit wmv together? I use quicktime pro for the quicktime files but need a similar solution for the windows media files.
I just plugged headphones into the headphone port on my iMac(dual core 2.4) I went to system preferences, sound, then output and only the internal speakers show up. I rebooted the machine and still, same thing.
I tried the same headphones on the eMac sitting next to it, and it worked just fine. Still confused about the iMac
I created a folder in my favourites bar and on my Dock next to my download folder, which had a combination of picture and word documents. I noticed this morning the folder is now just a ? I cannot locate any of my files anywhere and I know i didnt delete the folder.
I spent a lot of time selecting cuts to put in my iTunes Store Wish List (had to listen to the auditions to find the right versions, etc.). Now when I go to my wish list, it says it's empty. Is there a time limit or something? I filled out the Wish List a few weeks ago.
For some reason, when my son was trying to load a from a CD to the applications folder all the applications suddenly disappeared. If you click on itunes or word you get an error notice about a corrupt file. The documents appear to be there. What should we do? We are running OS 10.4.11 on an iMac.
I installed a copy of Windows Vista on my 15in Macbook Pro. I did this in order to play Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 and some other games on my laptop. The machine is more than capable of running the game and I've read forum posts that had said that it works perfectly fine through boot camp. I installed the game and was playing it just fine for about 1-2 months until one day the game began to lag really bad and the sound also disappeared.
I installed Windows 7 Beta on my MBP yesterday and for a while it showed up in my Startup Disk options in System Preferences, but now it doesn't show up. The partition is still there in Finder and I can boot to it each time by holding down the option key, but if I restart more than once in Windows 7, it defaults back to OS X. Is there a way to put the disk back into the Startup Disk options?
I want to use vmware to get into my windows partition. However, the 'untitled' windows partition is not showing up on my osx desktop. It is saying it is 'not mounted', how do I fix this. Here is a screenshot from disk utility...nothing's working, but the partition is fine.
I have Windows installed via Bootcamp on my Macbook Pro. In Windows it shows the Bootcamp Partition & The OS X partition. But in OS X it just shows the OS X partition and not the Bootcamp one and it does not show up in Disk Utility either?
So my friend has a MacBook, OS 10.5.7,2 ghz intel core duo. All of a sudden, she said, her system preferences suddenly disappeared. It seems like it was deleted all of a sudden. There is a ? in the area it was in the dock, and searching in finder yields no results. Also, her F1-F12 keys have reverted to the old style I have on my iBook(ie F9 shows all windows etc). However if she clicks fn with the F key it does what it's supposed to do. The most irritating part of it is that all of a sudden it reads everything that you highlight or type in.
Title says it all really! The test remains, however, and you can still go into each folder, as it is still selectable.
This is a new 17 inch Macbook, Time Machine restored from a 15 inch one (including system files).
where I can recover the icon files (I think I can copy and paste the icon files into the preview section on the get info window)? Or if there is another solution?
Three other things, if you happen to know the answer as well:
1. I've just bought this screwdriver: [URL]
Will this be sufficient to replace the hard drive in my uMBP (considering it is all Philips screws)
2. Do you know if the Momentus XT Solid State Hybrid Hard Drive can be restored using a clone, without slowdown consequences?
3. Do you know of any desktop images which, when selected to cycle for e.g. every 5 seconds, will create a cool effect? I'm thinking night and day scenes, identical images with different hues etc.
I have my hard drive partitioned into two parts and after running time machine last night one of my partitions (Stuffz) is not showing up. This partition isn't even backed up by time machine so I'm not sure what exactly I need to do to fix this. It has a lot of important files on it.
All of my music is on an external hard drive connected via USB. It is now showing that instead of having 80+gb of data there is zero and now a file that says USBC and some other characters. I tried running disk utility and it said "filesystem verify or repair failed". Music folders and files disappeared from external hard drive now showing USBc file.
My MacBook internal hard disk is currently partitioned into Snow Leopard (JHFS+), Storage (NTFS), and Windows 7 (NTFS). Whenever I try to mount my storage partition, it shows up as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in Disk Utility, and refuses to mount. My Windows 7 partition, which is also NTFS, mounts automatically when I log in. Is there a way to perhaps force my storage partition to mount as an NTFS-formatted drive? This problem only exists when using OS X though, as it shows up fine on both Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7.
I also have an external hard drive which is partitioned (using MBR) as Storage (FAT32), Backup (NTFS) and Mac Storage (JHFS+). It all mounts properly, with the exception of Mac Storage, which shows up, curiously enough, as an NTFS drive in Disk Utility. Same question as above: Is there a way to force it to mount as a JHFS+ drive? (I'm using Tuxera NTFS 2010.10, if that makes any difference).
I own a Aluminum MacBook (not pro) 2 GHz. I decided to hook it up to an external Vizio monitor. When I do this though, when the TV is the main screen half the dock is cut off at the bottom does anyone know how to fix this?
Roughly two weeks ago I started noticing all kinds of unfamiliar system files showing up in a number of my folders. They are always grayed out and as far as I know have nothing to do with the actual folder. These are just straight forward folders and/or my actual Mac hard drive. Any idea where they may be coming from? I don't know that any of them are actual system files that might be important. The second link, the CODES folder should be the only file in that folder. Here are links to a couple of them. [URL]..
I have a 2007 imac and have done all updates that I know of but the transition to icloud is not working very well. Â
1) icloud does not have an icon in system prefernces, it's still mobile me. Although there is a message that states the account has been moved, I cannot sync etc.Â
2) two of my email addresses will not stay connected in mail. Since moving to icloud I have had to reinstall them everyday.Â
3) I host three websites from iweb but since the change to icloud I cannot find my former account where I can access my web domain info that used to be easily found in my mobile me account page. Â
I have a 20GB system partition on my imac and with the applications etc there is only 5.2GB left... Do you think this is enough or should I reinstall my imac to get a larger partition ?
I am trying to install a legit copy of xp sp3 on a bootcamp partition on a new Imac. I follow all the prompted steps and windows goes throught he installer. It then tries to reboot and I get the message "disk not found press any key to continue"does not matter if I hit keys or not, at this point the machine is locked up and has to be manually shut down and restarted.
