View 5 RepliesThis week I upgraded my Macbook Pro 13 (2011) from Snow Leopard to Mavericks 10.9.2. Initially I had problems with email crashing and Preview not launching. I then found the upgrade to 10.9.4 and installed that. This cured the email issue but I still cannot launch Preview.

DVD Player: unable to load the interface builder file Dock Menu.nib because the object archive is missing. Valid nib files must contain either keyed objects, nib, objects, nib or data nib. Full Path: /Applications/DVD Player.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/DockMenu.nib I've recently upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. DVD Player was working fine. In fact I've managed to launch it several times by loading the disc while using Recovery Startup.
I tried resetting SMC/VPRAM, re-installing Mavericks, deleting the plist.
I'm on a mid-2009 iMac. I should add...when I put the DVD in the slot...there's a click or two...then it spits it out again - except for the few times I've managed to load it using the Recovery Startup disk.

The plist file is well launched as a Daemon as machine start up. It starts a shell script which is suppose to change one route in the Mac routing table.
The syslog trace mention that the shell script is well started, but when I check the route, it kept the default route.
I suppose the problem is due to the fact that the network interface is not up when the script is started at the first time
If I modify the plist file and get ride of the LaunchOnlyOne key the new route is affected, but the script keep running for ever every minutes.
The plist file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "URL">
<plist version="1.0">

I know this question has been asked and answered but when I read the answer in previous threads, it makes no sense to me. It gives a terminal command that says killall;dock. How can that fix a problem that involves the launchpad.
I had lots of apps in launchpad now I have fewer than half.I know the apps are actually in the applications folder but why does the icon not appear in Launchpad and how do I get them back.

After updating to the new OS X Mavericks I found that Mine craft won't launch from my dock. Is there anything I can do to be able to launch Minecraft again?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor reasons which escape me, since I rebooted yesterday, I have been unable to launch TextEdit, Preview or Pages - they just say not responding when their icon is ctrl-clicked in the Dock. I just checked Numbers and Keynote, which I have never used and after their initial welcome screen, they too became unresponsive. As far as I can tell, GarageBand, iPhoto and probably others in iLife are unaffected, neither are Mail and Safari.
I found that a similar problem was being experienced a few years ago by some people using TextEdit and Preview and it was solved by re-signing the application in Terminal. I have tried that but it hasn't worked. I have repaired permissions and I'm just downloading the Mavericks installer so that I can make a USB installer and re-install OS X 10.9.3.
I am downloading which may save me the trouble of re-installing OS X 10.9.3, I'd be very grateful.

After migrating from a computer with Snow Leopard to a computer with Mavericks, photo booth will not even launch. Trashed photo booth preferences pfile, fixed permissions in disk utilities, still no launch. Not that big a deal, I don't need to save any previous photo captures, but would like to know whats going on given how much I paid to upgrade to this new mac.

Problem: When running computer in clamshell mode, it will often log me out automatically and/or crash the computer and/or cause an auto restart.
I've run a hardware test by holding down D during restart and it didn't show any issues there.
I've run a sleep/wake test in Terminal using a command I found on Google:
pmset -g log|grep -e " Sleep " -e " Wake "
Here are the results:

I can't access my Macbook Pro remotely, specially after several hours of inactivity,, whenever I try to access content of my library through the remote app or the Apple TV I'm unable to wake my Macbook Pro up.
My Macbook Pro is 2012 model (the last with de CD Drive) and it's running the Maverick OS, my questions are:
* I'm unable to find the "Unable Power Nap while plugged" option on the energy saver tab... is that because the model of my laptop doesn't support that?
* In order to access content from my library remotely, should the "Computer Sleep" option on the energy saver be on "Never" instead of the "1 hour" that I'm currently using... or is there a way to still be able to wake up the laptop with those settings
After the computer has been in sleep mode for a little while, when i try to wake up the computer, it turns to a cray scree, a loading bar appears and then it takes like 5 mins for the icons to appear and for the mouse to work!

For the last week or so I've been having an increasingly regular problem with Mail. Upon launching, the app opens a dialog window saying, "Mail can't connect to the Google account 'Gmail'. Enter the password for user (username)." Then when I enter the password, the app crashes. Sometimes clicking the "Cancel" botton allows the app to open, but sometimes that results in a crash as well. Also, when I can launch Mail successfully, sometimes when I try to send mail, the outgoing mail will sit in the Outbox unsent.
I've been getting these warnings with both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts. Until a few days ago I was using Yahoo as my primary account, but the inability to send mail caused me to switch to Gmail as my primary. After a couple days of smooth sailing, I'm now getting the same errors with my Gmail.
I need to launch this .pk3 file but I think I threw out the installer to launch it! Where can I download something to launch this file?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I see various Mac tutorials, tips, or suggestions, I usually see people launch applications by going to the folder (e.g. Applications --> Utilities --> Terminal). I've always been perplexed by this, because I have always launched my applications using Spotlight, and find that I can launch applications much more quickly this way (less than a second).
My question is: how do you usually launch applications?
Edit: and I see that I've forgotten to include Dock. I suppose that can go under Other.
I'm running OSX 10.4.11 with a 2 GHz Intel Cor 2 Duo and 2 GB of RAM.
When I try to load some applications (specifically CoRD and ImageResizer) they just briefly appear in the dock and then disappear, failing to open. These programs were not recently installed.
I've restarted, uninstalled/reinstalled the programs, verified/repaired permissions, verified/repaired the disk, re-updated the combo patch, run in a newly created account, cleared the cache, and deleted the preferences. With all of this, the programs are still failing to launch. Why? How can I get them to open? It's not OS threatening, but quite annoying.
Photoshop 7 installed without a hitch on my mac book running 10.5, but it won't launch (unexpected error). It worked fine on 10.4.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is weird. A few days ago iTunes 10 started causing my computer to go crazy every time I launched it (didn't realize it was iTunes at this point causing the problems). The computer would slow to a snail's pace and eventually completely freeze. Then a day or so later iTunes stopped launching all together. It bounces in the dock, stops and then has to be force quit. Most disturbingly after one of these unsuccessful launches, when I try to shut down, the computer hangs and basically freezes requiring a hard shut down with the power button. A few reinstallations later, no change
View 6 Replies View RelatedBackground: A day or two after plugging a USB that had been plugged into a virus ridden PC into my Mac, the internet went berserk. My father told me that he thought it was the USB that had messed the internet up. A few days later, he said that the USB was fine, it was just that Apple came out with a Security Update that changed our router access password (we cannot access our own internet because our password was being changed by a "Security Update"). So, in a kind effort to provide internet for me, he went into my Account Settings and changed my permissions so I was able to access the Application "Internet Connect". Well, I was able to run the application and connect to our internet, but I couldn't launch any applications that didn't either: a.)Come with the machine or b.)Need the administrator password to install.
The Problem: I cannot launch any applications that didn't need the administrator password or come with the system. I AM able to run Apps such as iChat, iTunes, Ventrilo(required administrator password) and Quicktime. I AM NOT able to run any of the games that I have downloaded, teamspeak, transmission, teamviewer, or any .dmg file. After two weeks of looking for possible causes and trying everything in our power, my dad and I can't find the cause of this. He has taken off all parental control and given me control of everything on my account, but still I can't launch anything.
I recently installed Windows XP Pro on my Mac via Boot Camp and I'm having some issues. Sometimes i cant get games to launch and my wifi works some of the time, was I suppose to install something additional for the computer ? Any specific drivers ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use two monitors: an Apple Cinema display and a Dell, which is display number 2. I installed SL and it was normal until I rebooted the first time. Now every time I boot up, the only display that is found is the Dell and I have to go into preferences and select "detect displays" to make the main one show up. It loads as if the Dell is the only display, and since it is smaller it messes up my desktop, lumping all my icons on top of each other. When I click "detect displays," it moves everything back to the Apple monitor, making it the main display as it should be, but it is all out of whack.
View 4 Replies View Relatedis it possible to launch OSX applications in the background without allowing them to steal focus from the current app? i sometimes want to have an application launch and not interrupt what i am currently doing.
here's an example:
i'm copying text from a webpage using safari and that i plan to edit in MS Office Word and so right after i open the webpage and its loading i use spotlight to launch Word and then go back to Safari. What happens is that while it is opening, at some point it will come to the front and interrupt my session in Safari.
So its been since the summer my office 08 word wont launch when I click on it to open. One day it just suddenly wouldn't open and so I've gone to the Apple Store and they couldn't help I've looked things up on line no help either. I even recently bought a new disk hoping that would solve my problems but didnt. But my trash usually has this in it when it wont come up...
