OS X Mavericks :: Checklist App That Will Sync Between IMac / Mini And IPhone
Sep 12, 2014
I Need to find a To Do check list app that I can use on my iMac that will sync to my iPhone and iPad mini. All the ones I've come across do not sync to all three.Â

I have a Mac Mini with OS 10.5.6 and I can't get it to sync with my iphone. Under the bluetooth icon at the top of the screen I've selected Bluetooth setup assistant. It asks me to select a pass key, i type one in and then type it in on the phone and it says they are paired on the phone.
On the Bluetooth setup assistant it says there were no configurable services on your device. What I was hoping to do was automatically download the pictures from my phone into iphoto via the bluetooth. I'm not even sure if that can happen.
This is my first mac and I'm not very familiar with the extra things it can do. Can someone tell me if downloading my pictures via bluetooth is possible and how to do it? Will it try and answer my calls via the bluetooth or will I still have the phone ring and be able to talk on it like normal even if it's connected to the computer?

How to synch notes from my phone to / from my Mac..
I went in to iCloud and it seems to insist that I create a new email account (....@icloud.com)...why do I need to do that?I already have iCloud synching of addresses on my address book without this?
I've looked at the Apple support site and all it says is "You can sync with the Notes app using IMAP or iCloud. Syncing Notes using iTunes is no longer supported on OS X v10.8 and later."...

I have the latest OS X Lion (10.7.3) and iTunes. On iTunes the Sync to Contacts, Sync to Mail, Sync to Calendars and the notes in Others are checked but the boxes in Advanced are not. The iCloud is logged in (in System Preferences) with the default settings. Â Â
If won't sync the contacts from the iPhone to either the Address Book in the iMac (late 2009 model) nor the one in iCloud. I've reported this at the iPhone Feedback page as a bug but I could be doing something wrong. Â

I setup my new iMac (purchased 14 May 2014) with a whole bunch of FaceTime contacts.  These are there in my FaceTime pane. I bought an iPadAir last week and also have an iPhone. On both these Apple devices I also entered some FaceTime contact data, tried both out and they worked just fine; that is they talked to each other and other people. As this information was slightly different on all three devices, I wanted them to automatically follow what I have on my iMac, so I plugged them both in to the iMac. I then (separately) did a Sync of both devices from iTunes, and all the data for FaceTime in both cases instead of being updated and streamlined/synchronized with my iMac has been wiped. automatically rather than have to enter and re-enter all the data again and again each time I do a Sync.Â
Note: when I did the Sync the music I added today went where it should, so there's no problem with connections, etc. On the Info page I've clicked on "Sync Contacts" which would seem to be what was necessary. Now when I try to Sync either of these devices, the Sync process goes on and on and never stops. I can't see any way of stopping it other than doing a Force Quit of iTunes - which is pretty useless as I will obviously want to Sync these and my other Apple devices again in the future. As a result of this neither of these devices will now Sync with my iMac, other than locking themselves into a cintinuous loop. As I've just bought both the iMac and the iPadAir I could contact Apple direct, but I thought I'd try here first.

I have an iMac, Air and iPhone 4S, all up-to-date. I did my iCloud migration a few weeks ago. Everything seemed to work; I especially tested Calendar and verified that an event created on each device would appear on/disappear from the others. However, over the past few days I have realized that iCloud sync of Contacts/AddressBook is only working on the iPhone. Cards that I have created on the iMac and Air do not appear on the phone, but cards that I create on the iPhone do appear on the others. Â
After readng some similar questions here, I checkef SysPrefs on the Air, discovered MobileMe was still the default for AddressBook, changed it (in two places) to iCloud... and now have a complete set of duplicate entries in the Air, but still no sync up to iCloud. (I created new cards to check, and also checked iCloud.com to make sure the data is there. It is, no dupes — but also none of the cards I created on the Air before or after changing the default.)Â

I haven't been able to send or receive iMessages on my Macbook Pro or my iPad. They do not receive any incoming messages or have the ability to send out any messages. Every time I try to send a message to a phone number REGISTERED WITH IMESSAGE, this error message pops up. Even though iMessage refuses to work on both my iPad and my Macbook, it has been working flawlessly on my iPhone. Every number that I try (and fail) to send an iMessage to on both my iPad and my Macbook, I have been successfully able to send a message to on my iPhone with no problem. Â
This is what gets me: I have signed in to my Mac and my iPad with several other Apple IDs and iMessage works FINE when there is another Apple ID involved. There is no problem when someone else signs in using their Apple ID. So far, the only thing that has been affected is iMessage. All other aspects of iCloud work great. FaceTime hasn't stopped working once, for example.Â
I have had two separate cases with Apple Support about this issue. I have brought all my machines to the apple store TWICE, and they still couldn't figure out what was wrong.Â

Syncing calendars between my iMac and devices continues to fail horribly.Â
It really never has functioned well from the Mountain Lion days. With Mavericks, Calendar syncing is useless. Must be rocket science!Â
If the system doesn't double everything up, it gets appointment times incorrectly.Â
Seems like Apple has determined that the iPad is Grand Lord of all calendar data—not the iMac. You can delete the data file on the iPad with SyncMac but the data is not gone. It remains in the iPad permanently waiting to take over.Â
This morning I used SyncMac to delete the data on the iPad to rid it of incorrect appointment times. Syncing again did nothing to fix the issue. Appointment times are all different and totally incorrect in the iPad compared to the correct data in the iMac.Â
I give up on the application. Print a blank calendar, have a pencil ready, and maintain your data the old fashioned way.Â
It used to just work. Not anymore and especially since iCloud which I will not use. I have no interest in giving my data to a second party in a foreign country so that they can grant me permission to access it. My clients don't agree to this arrangement. Nor do I.

I made text shortcuts on my iPhone so that a ": )" would change to an emoji . (And so on for other emoji.) Well, my iMac somehow synced that information to its System Preferences (see: System Preferences > Keyboard > Text). I have since removed those shortcuts from my phone, but my iMac still held those "Replace __ With __" preferences. And they will auto-correct to emoji in almost every application (Messages, Mail, etc). Â

I used Macthe Ripper to rip my sons chuggington dvd to my macbook pro, then i used handbrake to convert it, i managed to copy the converted file to my itunes library, but when i symc my iphone 3gs, it says it won't copy the file because it can't be played on my iphone.Several forums mention using the iphone/ipod touch preset when converting in Hnadbrake, now i may be a numpty, but i cant find this preset anywhere?! The closest thing i can see is an apple button/setting.when i selected apple and told it to play again, it said it would overwrite the prev converted verison. It took hours to convert the first time, if I do this, will it really work? Or will I waste another 3 hours?!

I bought my first iMac yesterday and am slowly getting to grips with it. I seem to have got totally stuck trying to connect my iPhone or the kids iPods.
When I connect by the cable, the phone charges fine.
The computer doesn't recognise that the phone exists though - either in uTunes or when i look in Finder.
I checked in system information, under hardware - USB, and it listed the phone there fine. (under the USB 3.0 high speed hub)Â
I have tried putting making the sidebar visible on iTunes and this made no difference.
It doesn't even register it as a camera or external storage in FinderÂ
It's an iPhone 4, and I haven't updated the OS recently so it is still on iOS 6.
I've also not been able to get the iMac to recognise my printer throughout the wifi - I'm not bothered about fixing this just yet - just concentrating on one w=thing at a time, but mentioned it incase it's relevant.Â

I have had to update my email password with email provider. When I tried to update it on the iMac in the Internet Accounts section, I got a message saying "Password could not be sent to 'mail.tesco.net' securely. Mail cannot send your password securely tot he server. You can continue without a secured password, which could put your password at risk'. However, when I updated it on my iPhone it was accepted straightaway and I have no problem receiving my emails.

My new Mac should be here in a few days. I am looking for a checklist of what I need to do to check things for problems and set things up. I am thinking of using Migration Assistant to transfer my iTunes library, iPhoto library, Mail, internet setting (and hopefully passwords!) and a few other things. I read MA is not the best at transferring between the older non Intel Macs (my old Mac is an O.G. 2004 G5 running 10.3), so I may do it in disk target mode. I have more RAM coming, should I install that before I turn on the computer for the first time? And there are two HD's, the second one will be used for Time Machine. Do I need to set anything special up with that?
Here's my configuration, pretty basic:
MacPro
Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeo
2GB (2x1GB)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb
One 16x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
I have 8GB of RAM on the way too.

OK, I have never really done any computer surgery before. I want to make sure I don't leave anything out before I dive in.
I have a 15" Macbook Pro Core Duo 2.4ghz 4,1 with 200 Gb harddrive and 2gb Ram. It's full, and slow when I run Fusion. I also use a ReadyNas Network storage drive, and have another external which I periodically use for Time Machine backups. The ReadyNas hold musics and video but is not a true back up. I also use Fusion with some Windows stuff. I have the Snow Leopard discs but never installed them. I also have the original install discs (1 and 2) that came with computer.
I want to do 3 things:
1) upgrde HD to 500 GB
2) upgrade RAM to max which I understand is 4gb
3) install Snow Leopard
Checklist:
1) my backup will be from Time Machine. I will do a fresh backup before starting.
2) Order 2x2gb RAM from Crucial website according to their hardware finder. Can I do more? I want the max, I do some video stuff. I think 4 is the max right?
3) Order 500 GB 7200 RPM drive from somewhere. Maybe DIY package from OCW. Don't know if one drive is better than the other.
4) Order Ifixit manuals and watch some YouTube videos to do hardware upgrade.
5) Dissassemble computer...Reassemble. Pray
6) Boot with my original startup discs....how do I do this? Never done it before. Do I put discs in computer before it is on and turn it on? Do I turn it on and then insert the discs?
7) Now I should again have Leopard on my computer with new stuff right? Need to get my things on here, will run a Time Machine Backup through System Prefs.
8) I should now have my stuff, my 3rd party apps, my music, etc. on the computer. Now I will run the Snow Leopard disc to upgrade the OS. I assume you just put these in and they go right?
I very much do not want a 2K paperweight. Would MUCH appreciate any critique to my gameplan! I don't think this process has any effect on my network storage, but any insight here would be great as well.

I'll be upgrading to Snow Leopard when it comes out (hopefully the 28th). I've decided to do a "clean install" because I'm working off a Time Machine backup that originally came from a PowerBook.
So I need some help coming up with a checklist of things I haven't thought of to backup. I've thought of lots of the obvious things:
-iPhoto Library (does backing up just the library preserve albums?)
-Music/ Movies + playlists
-Documents
-iPhone backup (where is this located?)

10.5.8, 2.16 Core 2 Duo, 2 gb, Itunes 9.0.2 (25), iPhone version 3.0 on a 3G virgin (not unlocked/broken) I can't get my Iphone to sync or charge. I've uninstalled & reinstalled itunes several times, trashing the preferences and killing the itunes helper. I've reset the pram. I've rebooted multiple times with the iphone connected. I downgraded from itunes 9.1 and tried it all again but made no difference. The computer doesn't see it. The usb ports work with other hardware. The sync cable charges fine with the wall outlet adapter. Can't think of what else to do. Please don't make me go buy a blackberry. It will bring a curse upon my household and my children's children.

Since the MacBook Air has limited hard drive space, I'm wondering - Would it be possible to "sync" things like music, photos, videos, etc. - like I can with my iPhone? I'm thinking I could sync the MacBook Air with my desktop, and take with me only the photos/music/etc that I want to travel with.
