I have been using my G4 MDD - 1.gHz DP with 4 160 GB HD. I recently upgraded one of my HD to a 200 GB. but my G4 only gives me 186 GB to use. I know when formatting you usually loose a couple of MB but 186 GB from 200 GB?

windows 7 partition is mainly for games like Call of Duty and the upcoming Mass Effect 3. Possibly microsoft office as well. How much space do you think I'll need? Is 200GB enough?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a LaCie Little Big Disk 200GB. It's an external HDD with two 2,5" 7200RPM hdd's paired as a raid 0 system.Great on paper, horribly risky in practice. So, *stupid me* started using this disk as a backup device for some important data. Of course the disk has started to malfunction. When I plug it in, there's this terrible clicking noise and it no longer mounts.I have already voided the warranty as I opened it up thinking/hoping it was a faulty connection.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have been using the OWC mercury 200GB SSD for 4 months now and I am experiencing a lot of freezing and lags on my 2010 15" i7 MBP. I tried restoring to original MAC OS Snow Leopard but it still froze. I dont know the exact problem.
Freezing occurs mostly when I perform major task/ heavy duties on the MacBook Pro, for example, when doing some video calling on Skype, Playing starcraft 2 and some heavy games.
Anyone having the same issues? Does anyone know any problem solving solutions?
I am not a newbie to computers so I am aware that temporary files (swap files) are par for the course. I also realize that when dealing with larger files (video, for example) swap files tend to grow larger. But I can't reconcile going from over 200 gb of available space to showing literally 0 bytes available in less than a half an hour. Granted, I am exporting a video from iMovie (about 2 hours) but to loose over 200 gb of available hard drive space to a swap file doesn't seem right. Is this really my swap file or is something else possibily going on here?

Both on my iPhone and my Mac, I have Messages configured to receive at both my phone number and my Apple ID. In both cases, I've set up the phone number to be the caller ID. Up to a few months ago, this worked. Now, however, the Mac only receives a random subset of messages sent to me. And whenever somebody tries to send me an iMessage they get "Not Delivered" — even when those messages have been delivered to my iPhone. This happens even when my Mac is switched off completely. (This makes iMessage somewhat useless, because the person sending me the message never knows whether I've received it or not.)
I can “solve” the problem by removing the phone number from Messages' configuration on my Mac. Re-adding it makes the problem return, though. I've also tried disabling and re-enabling iMessage completely on my Mac, but to no avail. I'd really like to be able to use Messages on my Mac transparently to answer iMessages sent to my phone number.

The available HD space shown at the bottom of the finder window shows 650 gb and the "get Info" window for the HD shows the same. If i look at the HD in "Disk Utility" or in "System Report" from "About this Mac", it shows 490 gb, which is what it should be by my calculations. I have installed a new SSHD a few weeks ago but it showed the correct available HD space in all locations at that time. Just the other day i noticed the higher available number at the bottom of the finder window, Have performed a "disk repair" and "permissions repair" with no effect. Running OS 10.9 mavericks on a macbook late 08. 8GB ram and 750 gb SSHD.

IMAP Server at InMotion Hosting
I continue to see messages in my mail folders that have the header information (From / Subject / Date) from one message in the message listings, and the From / Subject / Date of a DIFFERENT message in the message preview.
This is NOT Google. The IMAP server is from InMotion Hosting. On the server, the messages are accurate: the From / Subject / Date information is attached to the message body it represents. It is only in Mail that the information gets scrambled.
I have used the Rebuild for this mailbox, which usually corrects the problem. On occasion, I have to delete the mail account from Mail and add it back in again to force an accurate rebuild.

I have sent a message with Apple Mail 7.3 on Mac with OS X Mavericks 10.9.3, and it shows DUPLICATED in the Sent mailbox of Mail. I mean, two entries with the very same message inside are displayed, yet, as said, I only sent it once! I am using POP.
Selecting "Mailbox - Rebuild", quitting and opening Mail, repairing permissions with Apple Disk Utility, restarting the Mac, and even resetting the PRAM does not fix it. I have seen the following article, but cannot find the "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks that it indicates: How to Fix Duplicate Emails Sent From Apple Email..URL....
how to prevent this duplication behavior (beyond deleting one of such messages, which, of course, I can do); I mean, to fixing whatever is corrupted and prevent such behavior happening again in the future? What is the equivalent of "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks to do what indicates the above article?

My MacBook Pro 13", running on latest update, is showing a completely blue, plain blue, desktop background. It changed all by itself. When I tried to reset it by right clicking on the image I want on my desktop and selecting "Set Desktop Picture" nothing changes. When I go into my settings and try to change it that way, the image I want as my background shows as already being my background, yet my desktop is still blue. Tried rebooting already.

I'm having an issue with my Seagate backup plus for mac. It is an external hard drive and when I tried to find a place to post this on Seagate, I could not find one. I've had the same issue in the past, but I'm now wondering if it's my computer causing the issue.
I have OS Mavericks, OS X 10.9.4.
So, I connect the external hard drive and everything seems okay for a few minutes, but then the hard drive is ejected unexpectedly and the message comes up "Disk Not Ejected Properly" and will do this every time I plug it in now. I'm also not able to access any of the files on it - when I click to open the hard drive on my desktop, it freezes up in finder until the disk is ejected improperly once more.
I had an issue last summer with the same hard drive where it was not mounted correctly. After a painfully long time with Seagate customer service, it was determined that I needed to update the firmware on the disk. After doing this, the hard drive worked great until now. Thinking it might be a similar issue, I double checked the firmware update available from Seagate and according to them, my hard drive is up to date. Before I did that, I checked Disk Utility once again and the disk image still appears to be mounted, so I don't believe it's necessarily the same issue.
Below I copied and pasted an excerpt from the log available through disk utility. The last two lines (which I made red) are where the disk becomes ejected from the computer.

I use TM to backup data from my iMac, and once in a while, I manually delete the backup versions from the backup drive. (I know this is not recommended, but I have done it a couple of times recently). Even after emptying the trash, I notice that these backup folders continue to exist there, and give me messages like 'some unlocked items cannot be removed' and 'operation cant be completed because the item Applications is in use'. While these folders are not occupying any space (20-40 MB), they continue to remain in the trash. Is there a way to remove them permanently?

My MacBook Air (running Mavericks) was acting up a tad so I ran Disk Utilities. Basically I got told that repairs were needed but that they couldn't be fixed. DU told me to backup what I could and reformat the HD.
What's the best way to do this? Will restoring from a Time Machine back up bring back whatever issue was there to begin with? Same question for a SuperDuper clone. If I copy across the Music, Photos etc folders to an external disk and just copy them back over once the reformat and OSS X install is done will this mess up any of the music or photo libraries or indexing (I know iPhoto and iTunes have their own special waif managing individual photos etc).
Okay ... ; is there a way for e.g. Time Machine to back up system files / resources only .
... I mean I have a fully working core system software, that I want to backup, but ...
... I have also downloaded lots of other files / third party software,
which I'd like to exclude from the backup .
Is Time Machine capable of doing this ...
or is there some other software, that could to this ....

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I had the biggest shock of my life, the backup of my iMac is gone from my Time Machine. The hard disk has just been replaced. I had checked before that the backups were there and all was fine. I even recovered a few files from that backup a few days ago. Today the restoring didn't go well, I ran into an error message a few times and tried a few earlier backups. Now I can't see my iMac anymore on Time Machine.
How to get things back? How can I see my iMac again on Time Machine? It would be really bad if I have lost everything.

I'm in the midst of moving from a 2011 imac to a 2014 - I have/had 3 TM backups 1) before the 2011 crashed and was repaired - 2) from the interim 2014 imac that I restored and updated for the new computer and 3) a "carbon copy clone" of my current drive because the apple tech made me wipe the drive and start over and it failed.
My computer will be here next week and I wanted to prepare. However since the restore of the repaired 2011 NO TIME MACHINE will back up on ALL 3 drives the same error happened. It would start fine and say it needed 17-22 hours to "create new" or "inherit" and would start fine and then freeze somewhere around 15-20GB????? I left it more than 6-7 hours and the freeze remained.
Need a TM expert...... this HAS to be a Mavericks OSX issue and I do not want to wipe another drive.
