How do I backup my documents to the cloud?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a MBP and a Time Capsule, but I also am considering an online backup service (in case of theft).
I would look at Mobile Me but I have circa 50GB of photo's and video's to back up and so there is not enough space.
I have had a look at IDrive which gives 150GB for $5 a month however i'm not sure whether it would affect Time Capsule as it also appears to back up files that have changed.
I'm not able to back up my ipone to the cloud. I need to do this in order to buy the new iphone.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I don't want to restore content from my backup with old Apple IDs (wife's old deactivated account, brother's account, etc), how do I remove that content from a backup? I skip in the restore process, but that doesn't seem to remove anything. I'm assuming the content/media from the other accounts isn't loaded.
I guess I'm looking to create a fresh backup with only the iTunes items associated with my account. I can't find a way to identify what media is from these other accounts in iTunes, so I keep getting this issue when I restore from a backup.

I am a Mac user under the latest software.
We are using via the google cloud word documents that we can share with PC users.
I marked on my mac in the cloud the tags to different documents. I see them visible next to the file once in a time in the color that i used. If i look under icon tags on my toolbar i see the color label active.
All my other users work on windows, and they do not see my tags. Is there a way we can make that happens for everybody and that the tags stays next to the document file.
I have the latest iMac - OS X Mavericks. I recently shifted from Windows to iMac. I am a photographer and have thousands of pictures in my external hard-drive (Western Digital) that I have backed up by folder name (YYYY-MM-DD) using windows. But, now I have started using my iMac and planning to backup my new pictures stored in iPhoto library. I am not sure how can get the original pictures by year, month and day from iPhotos and copy them in external drive using the same folder structure - YYYY-MM-DD.
Not sure how to do this simpler. At this time I tried to go to iPhoto, then do Reveal in finder, go to that folder, select all my files, copy them, go to external harddrive, create a folder - YYYY-MM-DD and copy them. I can do this for each hundreds of folder sitting in my iPhoto.

The thing is, that the machine is turned off on the images.
Before shooting the attached images I had just cleaned the screen using a damp cloth and afterwards wiped it with a dry microfiber cloth. Just to make sure it wasn't dust or fingermarks.
I also tried to see if it was just shadows from lamps in the room, but it wasnt.
The areas shown on the images only appears when turned off. Now when sitting in front af the machine they are not visible.
what it is, how to remove them, or know if this is a consideren an error worthy of a return.
I'm having an issue with my Seagate backup plus for mac. It is an external hard drive and when I tried to find a place to post this on Seagate, I could not find one. I've had the same issue in the past, but I'm now wondering if it's my computer causing the issue.
I have OS Mavericks, OS X 10.9.4.
So, I connect the external hard drive and everything seems okay for a few minutes, but then the hard drive is ejected unexpectedly and the message comes up "Disk Not Ejected Properly" and will do this every time I plug it in now. I'm also not able to access any of the files on it - when I click to open the hard drive on my desktop, it freezes up in finder until the disk is ejected improperly once more.
I had an issue last summer with the same hard drive where it was not mounted correctly. After a painfully long time with Seagate customer service, it was determined that I needed to update the firmware on the disk. After doing this, the hard drive worked great until now. Thinking it might be a similar issue, I double checked the firmware update available from Seagate and according to them, my hard drive is up to date. Before I did that, I checked Disk Utility once again and the disk image still appears to be mounted, so I don't believe it's necessarily the same issue.
Below I copied and pasted an excerpt from the log available through disk utility. The last two lines (which I made red) are where the disk becomes ejected from the computer.

I use TM to backup data from my iMac, and once in a while, I manually delete the backup versions from the backup drive. (I know this is not recommended, but I have done it a couple of times recently). Even after emptying the trash, I notice that these backup folders continue to exist there, and give me messages like 'some unlocked items cannot be removed' and 'operation cant be completed because the item Applications is in use'. While these folders are not occupying any space (20-40 MB), they continue to remain in the trash. Is there a way to remove them permanently?

My MacBook Air (running Mavericks) was acting up a tad so I ran Disk Utilities. Basically I got told that repairs were needed but that they couldn't be fixed. DU told me to backup what I could and reformat the HD.
What's the best way to do this? Will restoring from a Time Machine back up bring back whatever issue was there to begin with? Same question for a SuperDuper clone. If I copy across the Music, Photos etc folders to an external disk and just copy them back over once the reformat and OSS X install is done will this mess up any of the music or photo libraries or indexing (I know iPhoto and iTunes have their own special waif managing individual photos etc).
Okay ... ; is there a way for e.g. Time Machine to back up system files / resources only .
... I mean I have a fully working core system software, that I want to backup, but ...
... I have also downloaded lots of other files / third party software,
which I'd like to exclude from the backup .
Is Time Machine capable of doing this ...
or is there some other software, that could to this ....

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am wondering whether a Time Machine backup made on Yosemite will be accessible on Mavericks/Mountain Lion for me to restore to, as I don't want to downgrade and wipe my Mac without any of my data backed up. Is there any way just to backup files and documents?
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I had the biggest shock of my life, the backup of my iMac is gone from my Time Machine. The hard disk has just been replaced. I had checked before that the backups were there and all was fine. I even recovered a few files from that backup a few days ago. Today the restoring didn't go well, I ran into an error message a few times and tried a few earlier backups. Now I can't see my iMac anymore on Time Machine.
How to get things back? How can I see my iMac again on Time Machine? It would be really bad if I have lost everything.

I'm in the midst of moving from a 2011 imac to a 2014 - I have/had 3 TM backups 1) before the 2011 crashed and was repaired - 2) from the interim 2014 imac that I restored and updated for the new computer and 3) a "carbon copy clone" of my current drive because the apple tech made me wipe the drive and start over and it failed.
My computer will be here next week and I wanted to prepare. However since the restore of the repaired 2011 NO TIME MACHINE will back up on ALL 3 drives the same error happened. It would start fine and say it needed 17-22 hours to "create new" or "inherit" and would start fine and then freeze somewhere around 15-20GB????? I left it more than 6-7 hours and the freeze remained.
Need a TM expert...... this HAS to be a Mavericks OSX issue and I do not want to wipe another drive.

I'm transferring Bacckups.backupdb to a new external hardrive - however, when I copy over the file structure is disrupted
So on the original drive everything is correct file structure... Backups.backupdb/MyMacbookPro/x14 dated folders
After copying to a new drive 3 of the dated folders are in the correct place and the other 11 (including 'Latest' folder) are sitting in the directory above
like this Backups.backupdb/MyMacbookPro + x11 dated folders/x3 dated folders
When opening up Time Machine it only sees those 3 dates and there seems no way of transferring the folders ...
I have a question about notes. I use notes a lot and they are synched between my Mac and iOS devices via iCloud.
I can I restore a note from a previous Time Machine backup? If I open notes and then TM, it automatically opens Finder Window and the Note App is hidden...
Is there a way to have the same result as Mail, for which I can surf my old email in TM?
Is there any way to set up one of my external drives to clone the behavior of my main drive? For example, I have a mac mini with 2 main drives, and I have 3 external HDs (one of which is for Time Machine). However, Time Machine is a bit annoying to have on all the time, so I am looking for a different option.
Here's what I need to do: I use one of my main HDs as my music drive (I'm a musician). I end up creating my music projects there and then back them up by manually transfering them to my xHDs. This process takes a long time because the files are huge and I don't do it after every project, so I move over a lot of GBs when I do this.
Is there any way to set things up where when I create a project (or any file) in my main HD that it automatically copies in real time to one of my xHDs?

After having my WD 750GB HD crash, I decided that I would opt for a smaller (256GB) SSD drive and just put Mavericks and my apps on the new drive and keep my user files on an external drive. I've installed and formatted the new drive but I can't figure out how to install just OSX from Time Machine since the entire backup is too big for my new drive. Before the drive failed, I had installed the latest update for Mavericks (10.9.3?)
I recently did a clean install and to my horror i can see that Time Machine does NOT back up all my files. It seems to be worst in my music library which fortunately is pretty easy to rebuild do to itunes index.
But is there any way to make sure that Time Machine does in fact back up all files?
Or is it just broken and should be avoided?

My wife deleted some of her Mail mailboxes. I couldn't figure out how to recover them. So I decided to a complete restore of her system from her Time Machine backups. I restarted with the option key down and choose the options to allow a restore from Time Machine. I choose her most recent "good" backup". The process began, indicating that it would take 11 hours to complete. I left the computer when it showed about 5% complete. When I next checked the computer about 8 hours later I found the startup screen with the spinning wheel on the screen. I waited about 4 hrs. and then shutdown the computer. It will not boot. It simply shows the startup screen with the spinning wheel. So I repeated the entire process, this time selecting an older TM backup to restore from. Unfortunately I experienced the same result.
Her computer is a 2012 Macbook Pro running 10.9.4. Her TM backups are stored on a Time Capsule.

My dad's iMac was stolen this weekend and am now trying to restore his iPhoto Library from Time Machine backup.
The Mavericks iMac was dutifully backed up over the network to a Mavericks OSX Server Mac Pro Time Machine Server's Drobo for months. I am now attempting to restore the iPhoto library at the Finder level to a Mavericks Macbook Pro.
I have connected to the server's backup disk via Finder and see his "Alan's iMac" listed there without the red minus circle. I then click on the Time Machine icon in the Menu bar and hold down the option key and select "browse other backup disks". I then select "Alan's iMac" and then Time Machine starts up, but it is not showing his files prior to Tuesday, the day I setup the Macbook Pro.
I need to be able to access iPhoto Library from August 30th which came from his now stolen iMac in order to restore to the Macbook Pro.
