OS X Mavericks :: Russian Spellcheck Not Working Well?
Jun 30, 2014
I was looking for a Russian spell-check.
I have installed some custom dictionaries (dic and aff), in addition to trying to use the Built-in OSX one, but it doesn't seem to pick up 99% of spelling errors.
What I also tried, is using them in FireFox. FireFox does a great job of using them and offering suggestions. The issue comes from OSX. For example, the word
"Приевт" – Which should be "Привет" (trans), does not show as an error, however. Furthermore, from all my button mashing (диоа аскдк ачф дисфйоасдч йасчдфйачсдиоайдпис) only йасчдфйачсдиоайдпис shows up as incorrect...
Is there some 3rd party tool for spell-check, or some way to fix this?
I am at a loss. I have tried to re-install OSX (but not because of this error ), however a fresh install updated to 10.9.4 did nothing.
I'm a newbie to the MAC world ..and it not looks easy ..my father in law has IMAC G4 but lost the OS and someone tried to help him and installed Linux ,and he don't have the recovery disk anymore to get back Tiger 9.2.2.so my Q.s is :- 1- which OS will be better, Tiger 9.2.2 as it was before or a newer OS?2- where i can find this Full "Russian" version of the OS ?3- How to install it back ??, what to press and the steps if there is reference page will be great.
We are using Mail in Leopard and I can't seem to find a way to change the spell-check from US to UK English, to get rid of all those ZZZs and the like.
Is this possible? Firefox can do it with right click -> language or something along those lines, surely Safari can load a different dictionary as well.
When I open up a new word doc (doc 1) and start typing randomly with loads of spelling errors the little red line does not appear under the mis-spelled word. When I Manually select spell check it tells me that there are no mistakes even though there blatantly are. If I open up a new blank doc (doc 2) and begin typing away again the same mis-spelled words, the red lines appears as it normally should. This is where it gets weird.......In doc 2 if I go into preferences>spelling and grammar, The boxes, "check spelling as you type" and "always suggest corrections" are ticked under both the spelling and grammr sections. If I then go into the same preferences for doc 1 the same boxes are ticked under the spelling and grammar sections however the grammar section is greyed out so I can't change the settings.
I am currently typing my thesis so having a wacky spell check is driving me insane. What I have been doing is opening a new doc then opening another new doc (doc 2) and typing in that however I have also noticed that the spell check doesn't always seem to work.
I got the newest 15" MBP and I'm trying to get power nap to work, but as far as I can tell, it does not work yet.
I enabled power nap both when the laptop is connected to power and on battery, but every morning when I look in iTunes, my podcasts have not been updated since last time i closed the lid.
I also tried to start downloading a podcast and close the lid, and when I open it again, the podcast has not progressed in the downloading.

The map application does not display any maps - only a grid. It doesn't work with Iphoto either. Thought I'd try to re-install the map application but can't find it in the app store.
*One curious thing (I can't imagine this has anything to do with it but....) the app store does not seem to recognize I have upgraded to OSX 10.9.4. I know I'm running this version as this is what shows when I click on "About This Mac" yet the app store won't reflect it. The download button is always ready and waiting for me to click it
I am trying to get airdrop to work on my mbp, I understand that the process networkbrowseragent should be running, however it isn't on my computer (even after I reboot). How do I get it to run?

I've tried it all! I've read through all the tricks and deleted the folders. I just updated my software to 10.9.3! I get the "this number is not registered with iMessage" for all of my contacts

I'm attempting to log in to my MacBook remotely using ssh, and it isn't working. I've looked all over the internet for a solution, and I haven't found one, although iI think I've determined that other people are having this same problem after upgrading to Mavericks. I did recently upgrade this MacBook to Mavericks, but I never tried remotely logging in prior to upgrading, so I don't know if Mavericks is the problem in my case.
I'm using a mid-2010 13-inch MacBook, which I've recently upgraded to OS 10.9.3. I have not set up a static IP address with my ISP. My firewall is currently disabled. I've gone to System Preferences -> Sharing, checked "Remote Login," and selected "Allow Access" for "All users". I then note the IP address listed, where it says "To log in to this computer remotely, type "ssh myusername@1.2.3.4" (obviously, I made up that user name and IP address).
If I then open up a terminal window on my local machine and type "ssh myusername@1.2.3.4", I am indeed able to log in using my password. However, if I ssh out to a remote machine somewhere else, and then attempt to ssh back in again, it doesn't work. Specifically, I am prompted for a password, but when I type the correct password, I'm just prompted for a password again. So I type the correct password again. But then, without even so much as an "incorrect password" message, I'm booted right out for excessive failed login attempts.
I notice that each time I check the "Remote Login" check box, which I believe starts the sshd daemon, that action generates four error messages in /var/log/system.log, all of which have this form:
Jun 19 16:56:49 mymacname.local mDNSResponder[40]: mDNS_Register_internal: ERROR!! Tried to register AuthRecord [this part varies] that's already in the list
So I made a backup to a new mac (the15" retina one, mid 2014). On my old mac with mavericks(v 10.9.4) notifications were working. On this one they are not. They are not showing up in notification center.
In the system preferences they are added, also in the notifications they are added to show up to 10 recent items.

My push notification for Facebook & Twitterwere working absolutely fine for sometime now, till recentled my Face Book & Twitter passwords. I deleted the account from System Preferences -> Internet Accounts & added it back again, but that hasn't worked either.
Having mail issues after the 10.9.4 update this week? Neither my iCloud or Cox email account is able to send or receive email after this update. The small exclamation mark appears to the right of each account, both for incoming and sent email...as well as the Junk email. The error says something about not being able to connect to Port 993.
I tried disabling SSL in both accounts (which automatically changes Mail to a different port) but saw no change. I know email works on both of these accounts as I'm able to access them on my iDevices, so it has to be something specific to my iMac.
I just upgraded to Mavericks and get the following message in network diagnostics: Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.82.167 and will not be able to connect to the Internet.don't understand whether this is the IP address of the computer or my router or what and why it is a problem. I have two wifi networks in the house and cannot connect to either one. One is on an airport. The other is on a comcast modem, router. They both yield the same message.

I consider myself as having a decent knowledge of Mac products and their workings, but this has got me completely stuck. I have two mac machines (MBP and MacMini), an iPhone and an iPad. iMessage was working fine on all devices up to a couple of weeks ago. On the MacMini, all of a sudden iMessage stopped receiving and sending messages, and displaying the recipient's name in red, instead of the usual blue (clicking on the name, it says the user isn't registered with iMessage, and it says that for all users). It still works fine on all of the other three devices.
I have tried everything that I've found on the forums - resetting the iCloud password, the keychain, the pram, deleting various files from the user library folder. Logging out on other devices, even a clean installation of 10.9.3 (which is also on the other, working machine). There is no firewall, and another exact same model MacMini that my colleague uses over the same connection works absolutely fine!
It seems that the problem is almost tied in directly to my specific machine - is this possible? as I've already spent far too long trying to fix this.
Previous to 5 months ago, I had never had any problems with my iMessages working between my iPhone 5s, Macbook Pro, and iPad Mini. Now, no matter war I do I can not get my messages to work with my iPad or Macbook anymore. On the Macbook Messages app it says that my contacts are not registered with iMessage which is just not true. At one point a few months ago it randomly started working and I got all my previous messages on my Mac but after that it went back to the same problem.

My finder is not working in the dock with one click have to click and then go to find just started to do this also safari stopped and I quit safari and it started to work again.
I restarted my computer several times no difference.
I have 2 Monitors connected to my Mac that no longer work after mavericks OS system Install. Screens are connected via Sabernet USB to HDMI Converters....

I have been using the same email account on my MacBook Air forEVER. I can log in to my email (I use google) via the web and I can still access my mail via my phone and iPad. I keep getting prompted for the password. I first get the "Mail cannot connect to the Google account, pls enter password". It will not accept my password. The connection Dr.'s connection status is that mail can access the internet (green dot at top of connection dr box). However, the status for my account shows that login failed and I need to check username and password. Internet Accounts, under system settings, recognizes this google account accepts the password.
I have checked, rechecked and triple checked the imap and the smtp. I have deleted the account and recreated the account. I have tried different ports. The only thing I notice is that it doesn't want to save any changes I make. Under the account information tab, everything looks correct except it doesn't show a password (no bullets indicating a secret word). I type in my correct password (and I know it is correct b/c I can login via a browser), go to the outgoing server screen, make sure that is correct and click back over to the account information tab to find that the password is again gone.
I am getting SO tired of doing all my email the hard way! Either on my mini or having to login via browser. I just want my apple mail app back up!!!
I turned on my mac tonight to find that the screen has gone funny. there are marks inside the screen that look like water marks. The sound is also not working when I try to play videos. I can hear a crackling sound. it all worked perfectly last night but on shutting it down I updated a recommended software update.
FaceTime is not working on Mac Air version 10.9.4. Was working fine before. When logging in with Apple ID it will not Verify. Seems like it is corrupt. I can't reinstall app because when I throw it in the trash I get a message "FaceTime can't be modified or deleted because its required by OS X".
I have Mavericks 10.9.4 I'm trying to use the Dictation feature for the first time and I cannot get it to work. First of all, I downloaded the Enhanced Diction, ~750MB. Diction is 'on' and the enhanced dictation is enabled. When checking the internal microphone for operability, I tried 'automatic and internal microphone'. It shows good activity when speaking.
Once I am in a field where I can add text, I will double click the FN key. I hear a 'one beep' sound, not the normal siri sound, and the microphone DOES NOT show up as it does on my other MAC. However, when I started the computer in safe mode (yea, I know the microphone is disabled), the microphone shows up in the text field. So this means, something is disabling my microphone in normal boot-up.
I just bought a macbook pro retina display OS X 10.9.4 and entered the data of my applestore account on the imessage app but each time I try to send a message gives me the following sign "+54 9 11 ....... is not registered with iMessage." although it is a registered number (my own iphone).

I bought a MacBook Pro for my wife yesterday and want to share calendars on my MacMini so that we avoid ":double-booking", which seems to happen all too frequently. Both machines are running OS 10.9.3, are signed into the same Apple ID and are — think — connected iCloud. The address books seem to have been shared. Internet connection is fine. But I cannot get the calendar up on the new computer. I have no problem with iPhone and iPad. So, obviously, I am doing something, and probably something very basic, incorrectly. But what???
