OS X Mavericks :: New MacBook Pro 10.9.4 Slow Start Up Shutdown?

I am a new Mac user with no prior Mac experience. I recently (1 week ago) purchased a MacBook Pro running Mavericks? (10.9.4). Out of the box the machine was lightening fast with startup and shutdown speeds PC users can only dream of.Â
I connected the MacBook to a Windows domain and that went well with no problems. I installed Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac and configured Outlook to connect to Exchange on the SBS 2008 server. Again, all went well and the system performed flawlessly. Then I connected to the server via Go>Connect to Server, so I could access a shared folder on the Windows sbs 2008 and that is when my troubles began.Â
Ever since I made that connection to the Windows server via Go>Connect to server my Mac has trouble Starting-Up and Shutting-Down. Whereas before I made the connection my Mac would boot in under 10 seconds and Shut-Down in around 2 or 3 seconds, it now takes almost a minute to boot and over a minute to shut down.Â
The connection to the server was made as follows:
Go>Connect to Server
Server address cifs://MyServerName.MyDomain.local (actual names not used in the example but it is a dot local domain)Â Â
It does not matter if I actually access any of the shared files during any given operation of the machine... it now consistently takes several minutes to Power-Up and then Shut-Down.Â
I have two network connections... one wired and one wireless and it does not matter if I use one or the other (or even both). The problem remains. It also remains if I take the machine off the LAN and travel to another location... the Start-Up and Shut-Down remain painfully slow (for a Mac anyway). PC users will think I'm knit-picking but I didn't buy a Mac to suffer the same boot shut-down times that PC users have grown to accept. Â
If not for the fact that the Start-Up and Shut-Down were so amazingly fast prior to adding the share capability I might not even ask the question but just watching the blazing Startup speed for the few days before adding the sharing has spoiled me. Â

I have been unable to shutdown or restart my MBP mid 2012 retina (2.6 GHz Intel Core i70, other than by holding down the power button. I've tried, (safe mode, restore, repair permissions reset PVRAM. etc). I finally got it to shutdown regularly by eliminating all Divx software on my computer (no easy task), but shutdowns and restarts still hang an unusually long time, about 15 seconds.Â
I send console information just before my last BOOT_TIME to see if any process in the time after restart command and boot would give any hints. Here are the entries, and there appear to be some problems but I cannot interpret them. I have an external WD passport drive connected (which I can eject before restarting with no noticeable effect, and a USB hub, which I also disconnect to no effect).

My MacBook Pro (approx. 4 months old) running latest version of Lion now has a completely black screen except for the spinning beach all. It doesn't respond to any keyboard input. It doesn't respond to the power button. It's been unplugged for 8Â hours, but still keeps churning.

My MacBook is three years old. Lately it has been slow starting up and shuting down with no peripherals connected, so flustering t to the point I have to do a forced shutdown (by holding the power button down). Anybody have esimilar experience and might now how to spped it up

I purchased my second MBP about 2 days ago and it has a shutdown tie of about 7-10 seconds. My first MBP shutdown pretty much instantaneously. My second MBP now takes a while to shutdown. There is nothing installed on my new MBP because I just got it. Pretty much straight out of the box but has a slow shutdown time. how I can make it shutdown in 1 second or so?

when i used to shutdown it took all of 6 seconds, it went to a blue screen then shut down
but since about a week ago its been taking almost 15 seconds and when the blue screen comes up a loading circle appears at the bottom

Ever since 10.6 my MBA has shut down in seconds, however this afternoon its now taking over a minute - can anyone shed any light as to why?

This already happened twice. I installed torrent downloader, downloaded a movie then turned off my macpro so I can continue the download the next day. However, every time I start my macpro, I can't find the torrent downloader anymore. Is is being deleted automatically my OS? I tried to search everywhere - apps, docs, downloads etc.

I was deleting items of my external drive through MacBook keeper and when I went to shut down Safari (which was open) stopped the shutdown process. So in the end I force quit the computer. When it came to restarting I get the usula apple symbol and sound when start up begins but there it stops. The spoked wheel just keeps spinning below the Apple Symbol.

I was sitting with my MacBook Pro, when out of no where, purple vertical lines began flickering on the screen. I tried getting them to stop, then eventually just shut down my laptop. When I went to power it up again, it first popped up with the white apple screen and chime, then a gray screen dropped down with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.".
I tried the Power button option first, but the computer does not come back on. When I press the Power button again, it does the same thing all over again. I do not know where the "Restart button" is, so I haven tried that. I have also tried pulling the battery and restarting, restarting in safe mode by holding the shift key at start up, and trying control-r and control-s functions. None of which worked.

My Mac Pro (2008, 8-core, 10GB, 2x1TB RAID 0) system takes a long time to shutdown or restart. Typically over a minute. I didn't think this was so bad (though I think when I first got the system is shutdown must more quickly) until I got a MacBook and it shuts down in around 10 seconds. I was wondering if the slow shutdown time on the Mac Pro is normal and whether there is any way I could see what its doing while shutting down. It just sits there at the shutdown screen with the twirling icon and I'd prefer to see some messages or status so I know what is going on.

I upgraded my wife's Late-2007 MacBook White to Lion and now sleeping and shutdown take a very long time. On Snow Leopard, sleep and shutdown was instantaneous! Close the lid and BAM! done. Selecting shutdown on the menu and BAM! turned off.Â
Now, after upgrading to Lion, they take a really long time. I deleted the shutdown log, turned off the computer and then turned it back on and checked on it. All processes go in less than a second, but com.apple.securityd doesn't exit at all and has to be killed as I see this message on the log:Â
19988665    1 com.apple.launchd                          28 com.apple.securityd                     Exit timeout elapsed (20 seconds). KillingÂ
One of the last messages on the log is this one:Â
19992024    1 com.apple.launchd                           1 com.apple.launchd                       System: Userspace shutdown took approximately 20 seconds.Â
So I figure if it were not for com.apple.securityd, shutdown would be instantaneous, just as Snow Leopard was.Â

After running vmware fusion on my mac pro, If I try and restart or shutdown the machine it takes between 15 and 30 minutes to shutdown. If I haven't run fusion at all it takes 20 seconds. There is nothing in the system.log which gives a clue to what could be happening. Mac Pro Running Leopard 10.5.6 with all updates applied (Dual 2.8G Xeon,16G Ram, 640G Boot Drive and 1.2T Raid 5)

I have an iMac (early 2009 model) that I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard(10.6.3) from Leopard and now when I restart and shutdown, it takes almost 30 secs for both, compared to when I was running Leopard, it literally took about a second (maybe 2). I've tried verifying/repair disk permissions, clearing cache, turning off airport utility, etc. per some suggestions through Google to no avail. There are no programs running before shutdown. I'm wondering if something was included in the upgrade/updates to slow the shutdown process.

I've had my 13" macbook (running SL) for almost 2 years now (I believe) but recently it has started to act rather oddly. On startup it used to take probably 20 seconds or so while now it can take upwards of 3 minutes just to get to the desktop. I have added a few newer programs on startup but this time is just from the apple screen to the desktop, not counting the time for the startup items.
Also, the more annoying issue, when shutting down my macbook will sit at just the desktop (no icons) for several seconds before going to a blank screen for sometimes several minutes. Sometimes the circular loading thing (the one that is used when starting up) appears and when it does I'm forced to do a manual shutdown (holding the power button) because it refuses to shut down. My battery has also been dying easier and taking longer to charge so could it have something to do with the battery?

Yesterday my macbook start shutting down and booting up slowly. It used to work so quickly, and now it's taking much longer. The only thing I did was install a printer before it happened. Then when the problem began I uninstalled the printer with the uninstaller that it came with. I thought maybe that was the issue, but uninstalling it didn't seem to make a difference. I checked in the preferences to make sure it is starting up with the hard drive and it is. I'm not sure what else to do. It's not a huge issue, but it is a difference and the fact that it's only about a month old worries me. I do have to add that even though it's slower than it was just 24 hours ago, it's faster than my Dell PC ever was

I have a 2010 13 inch macbook pro and the internet is slow to start up once i plug in the ethernet cable(takes 2 mins or so). On my thinkpad it was instant. Is this normal for the macbook pro?

But a few days ago, when I turned it on it took about 5 minutes to boot. I already did a disk repair (it found no errors), repaired the disk permissions and used OnyX to see if there's anything wrong. It still has this problem and I don't know what else to do. Sometimes it also freezes for no reason.

When I started my computer this evening, it froze immediately after starting up. (I have had three start up items for over a year: Dashboard, iTunes, and Chrome). Then after I unplugged it and removed the battery to restart it (nothing else would work), it was extremely slow to restart. I had to then Option-Command-Escape out of each progrma that starts up, and when I started Chrome again, it was very slow. After some time, it started to pick up speed again, like starting a car engine on a cold winter morning. Â

this isn't a big deal but I've found that when I shutdown or restart with a few applications (even longer if there are a lot open), it sort of just waits (showing me the spinning wheel of eternity - SWOE lolz) after every application is closed (which is almost instant) at the desktop, I can only see my background picture, sometimes it does this at the blue screen occasionally, does anyone know why.
It can wait for up to 20 or 30 seconds, this is on my sig rig w/ the SSD - so I find it a bit odd.

Everytime I open up my lap from its sleep mode and try to connect to a website it says, Unable to connect to the Internet. My network connection shows an active connection to the access point. I know the problem is the DNS. When the system is in the state of saying it can't connect to the internet I can both ping my local router, and through an IP for yahoo.com into the browser and have it resovlve.Â
Once I start my system and let it wait for 30 to 60 seconds it will finally work. For some reason the DNS is waiting for a while to kick on.Â

After a full shutting down the computer we needed to get back on, so on restart it came up to the usual 2 user options, mine and guest.
After selecting mine and entering my password the little Ferris wheel spins as usual but then the coloured pin wheel come up and spins for about 2seconds. The screen then flashes white and it goes back to selecting between the 2 users.Â
I did a Command R restart and went in to Utilities and changed my password (although I was entering it in correctly before) and no change.Â
I am running the latest updated version of Mavericks and have unplugged all peripheral hardware from the computer, followed by a restart and no change.Â
I've even left the computer shut down for 2 days and on our return still the same.

I'm very new to Mac OS X...my new (two days ago) installed OS X 10.9.4 on my late 2013 MBP 13" Retina.in my office I work with an Microsoft Active Directory User and at home for private work with my local user account.
The accounts work fine until I log off the user with "cmd+shift+q". Every second or third logoff the MBP reboots with an error. Where can I find the log files or crash reports to solve the problem?Â

My macboock 3,1 (A1181) is very slow on boot.
At first i get the white apple logo en the round indicator and then the screen turns blue/turcuse and it takes aprox 10min before i see the desktop. Its fast but not very fast to boot into safemode. When the computer is all booted up everything work great!Â
Ive tried to reinstall Snow Lion after i formated the drive but without any luck. Ive resetted SMC and PRAM. The superdrive has stopped work to, when i insert a disk i spinnsup for a min or a half then it ejects the disc.
I installed snow leopard now thru a external dvd via usb. AND! I almost forgot, the computer doesent get out of sleepmode after i closed the lid, Â
