OS X Mavericks :: Flickering Words When Scrolling Using Trackpad Online?

Jun 27, 2014

I have a brand new macbook pro, 2012 standard version, with Maverick. It has 8 gigs of ram.

I have a number of problems with it and I'll do my best to explain one -what happens when I am online and scrolling using my trackpad. The words get lighter as I scroll, shimmering or flickering, until I stop. Using Chrome, the blue links actually bleed into the rest of the words. It is barely noticeable if I use a wired mouse with it. (I don't have a wireless one) but using the trackpad is pretty bad.

It also does with my MAIL program if I'm scrolling through the messages using my trackpad but doesn't do it when using my mouse. Is this normal?

OS X :: PDF Scrolling With Trackpad In Leopard

Jul 11, 2009

I just wanted to verify if other people experience this too. Ever since I upgraded to Leopard over a year ago, PDFs scroll like **** from the trackpad, both in Preview and in Safari. They scroll painfully slow, and then suddenly jump to way too fast. I don't understand why they don't just scroll naturally like everything else in the OS. They used to scroll fine in Tiger.

MacBook Pro :: Why Does It Right Click Instead Of Scrolling On Trackpad

Mar 27, 2012

Every now and then my trackpad acts up. When I scroll down/up (2 finger swipe down/up), it does a right click instead of scrolling. I bought this brand new at the apple store and its acting up within less than a month. I don't want to have an exchange if they'll give me a refurbished looking one.

MacBook Pro :: Flickering Display, Aluminum Clam Shell, Trackpad Not Working?

Jun 23, 2012

Our display flickers on one side and has multicolored vertical bars running down the left side at best, or the whole screen greys out over the top of the graphical display, is physically no longer fully attached on that side near the hinge (you can press it down quite a bit after it has been closed), and the aluminum clamshell seems like it's warped.  The bottom access panel has become no longer a smooth fit - it sticks up a few millimeters at the gap instead of being flat. We used to be able to hold the back left side and the screen would work, now we have been sitting it on a wooden structure with a back support and pushing it against that so we can see the screen for the past year or two.  Now the flickering vertical bars are getting worse and the wooden support doesn't always work, and as an added bonus, the trackpad recently stopped working (it no longer 'clicks' and acts like it's constantly pressed down, so we have to use an external mouse with it).  It's pretty frustrating because we've babied this thing (it's never been dropped or abused and has only left the house like twice, and one of those times was to take it in to see about this very problem!) and it seems like it's a manufacturing defect, but of course we never had AppleCare and this powerful expensive beast is now a desktop computer with a super hard to see screen.  I've been told we need to pay $400 to get a whole new clamshell.

MacBook Pro :: How To Enable Trackpad Momentum Scrolling

Jun 20, 2010

I was playing around with the newest Mac's today at a Best Buy and noticed that they have a feature called "momentum scrolling" under their trackpad preferences.

I have the older 13 inch Macbook Pro's with the glass trackpad, and it appears that feature is not there in system preferences. However, I can't imagine that the slightly older trackpads are not capable of momentum scrolling in Snow Leopard.

Does anyone know of a way to enable momentum scrolling for the previous gen Macbook Pro?

MacBook Pro :: Scrolling Through Webpage Using Trackpad Jerky

Jul 17, 2010

I had a Unibody Macbook, the newest rev. I decided to upgrade to a 13" MB Pro today at Microcenter for $999. Biggest reason was honestly I hated the white and I decided to not get a iMac but instead pair a 30" HPZR30 to the MB so went with the Pro for aesthetics and small processor bump. I took the Kingston SSD out of my MacBook and put it in the MB Pro, reset the PRAM/NVRAM and it boots right up. Everything works but for some reason the scrolling through a webpage using the pad is a bit jerky. Comparing it to my Macbook which I put the 250gb drive from the MB Pro in its perfectly smooth. I can reload the system if I need to but how is the scrolling on others '10 MB Pro's? I can tell a huge difference in the keyboard, its much more solid on the MB than on the MB Pro, I assume because they left some gap/spacing for the LED back lights.

MacBook :: How To Alter Scrolling On Trackpad With Retina

Sep 11, 2014

When I'm on my old MacBook computer (version 10.6.1), when you scroll up on the trackpad with two fingers, the page scrolls up. And the same for scrolling down on a page. Now when I bought my new MacBook Pro with Retina (version 10.9.4), when you scroll up on the trackpad, the page moves down...? And when you scroll down with your fingers, the page moves up... It's very confusing and I would like to change that if possible. I want to scroll up and have the page move up. Is there a way to do this?

MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Scrolling Results In Font Size Change

Mac Pro :: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 - Dragging And Scrolling Lag

Aug 26, 2014

Since upgrading to 10.9.4 i've been beset with numerous bugs and general odd system behavior. Previous to this update I had experience lag when using my Wacom Intuos 4 tablet. For example when doing a preview render in Maya the tablet would become unresponsive and laggy. This never occurred on my old Mac Pro 2008.

I noticed there was an update to the Wacom Drivers (6.3.8-2) so I did the update. After updating I've been experiencing dramatically slow screen redraw. So whenever I drag a window or scroll, the image stutters, flickers and lags as it tries to redraw to keep up with mouse position. This makes it impossible to use the computer.

I uninstalled the Wacom drivers and the lag and redraw errors persist. I looked at Activity Monitor to if it was some other system resource like Spotlight that was momentarily hogging resources. The only thing I notice is that the dreaded "kernel_task" seems to be using a lot of ram (1.46 GB) and cpu time (usually at the top of the list). Also, "com.apple.IconServicesAgent" seems to be using a lot of CPU time (usually #2 in the list).

MacBook Pro :: OS X Mavericks (10.9.4) Trackpad And Screen Freezes Randomly

Sep 10, 2014

I got a new Macbook Pro Retina (mid-2014) a few weeks ago and the trackpad and screen randomly freeze even when the only thing I have open is Safari. In other words, it doesn't feel like my computer has a 2.6 GHz Processor and 8 GB 1600 Mhz Memory. My downloads folder also constantly has the loading bar under it; it goes away when I remove it from the dock and replace it, but appears again after downloading one thing.

This is really frustrating when I got a new Macbook so that I wouldn't have to deal with these types of problems. They're all issues that I never encountered with my Macbook Air (mid-2011).

OS X Mavericks :: Magic Trackpad Stops Responding On Wakeup After Upgrade?

Sep 11, 2014

I have a 27" iMac purchased in July 2011.  I never had any issues with the trackpad before upgrading to Mavericks.  I upgraded a few months ago and started having sporadic issues with the trackpad.  When the iMac woke up, everything seemed fine at first.  About once or twice a week, after it had been working for about a minute (just enough time to start web browsing), the trackpad would suddenly stop responding.  It then progressed to being more consistent (every other day).  The cursor was still visible and the keyboard still worked.  The trackpad was still on but apparently not connected.  I thought it was the batteries, but new batteries didn't work. I could get the trackpad to work again by using Spotlight to open the Bluetooth System Preferences.  The trackpad worked immediately when Bluetooth preferences were opened (nothing needed to be changed; it would just start working).

However, it would stop responding after about ten minutes.  It was interesting because even if I left the Bluetooth System Preferences open, it would still stop responding after about ten minutes.  I could use the keyboard to make the preferences window active and it would immediately work again.  It would then work again for a few minutes and then stop.  I found that removing the trackpad and re-connecting it would cause the trackpad to start working again more consistently.  It would only stop if the iMac went back to sleep for an extended period (overnight).

The useful keyboard shortcuts are cmd + spacebar to open Spotlight, type bluetooth, use the arrow keys to go to Bluetooth system preferences (hit enter), use the arrow keys to go down to the trackpad, press spacebar to unconnect, again to confirm, and then after the trackpad is automatically rediscovered, press spacebar again to pair it.

This went on for about a month, when I had what I suspect was an unrelated problem.  The trackpad started acting as if it was being held down (left click was always being pressed).  I took it into the Apple Store and they confirmed it was broken.  At that point I had a brand new trackpad.

The issue had gone back to happening every other week or so.  I thought it might be interference, but I've since physically moved apartments and all the objects around it. It's been a couple months now and it's back to happening every couple of days or so.  Since the trackpad is brand new, I have to think this is a software issue.  I've noticed the following consistently:

1) It only stops responding if I've put it to sleep (I usually do so with a hot corner, but I don't have any reason to believe that's related) and haven't used the computer for more than 12 hours.

2) It'll always work right when it wakes up.  It'll stop fairly consistently 1 - 2 minutes after waking up.

3) Time Machine seems to be busy doing something when the trackpad stops (the little icon is spinning in a circle if I have a Finder window open).  Uncertain if it's always doing something or if it's coincidence that I've noticed it more recently.

4) As mentioned above, opening the Bluetooth System Preferences will always get the trackpad to respond, but then it'll stop after a few minutes.  Unpairing and reestablishing the pairing will fix the issue for awhile (at the very least until the next time the iMac sleeps).

5) I may be imagining this, but before upgrading to Mavericks, I think it used to show the message that the trackpad was connected when the iMac woke up.  I no longer see that message unless I remove the connection and setup the pairing again.

I've seen lots of people with various issues with Bluetooth connectivity and Mavericks.  I'm on 10.9.4.

OS X :: Words Are .jpg, .doc, .xl Files The Same In Both Environments?

Sep 4, 2009

I just received my first Mac - a 13" Macbook Pro. I will get my windows XP disc today and plan on using Boot Camp & Parallels but would like to ween myself off of Windows as soon as practically possible. I use Quicken, Quickbooks, Office and Photoshop (CS3) and iTunes amongst others. I realize all my pc backups will work in Boot Camp but my question is - When I eventually get the applications for Mac will my old backed up files work in my new Mac applications? I am slightly confused - in other words are .jpg, .doc, .xl files the same in both environments and it just uses the "for Mac" software to interpret them? I have my backups on external hard drives and would like to migrate them over. Which brings up another Mac nooby question - what is the best way to use my new Mac with iTunes but not lose the content of my iPods?
