Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....
im on a goal to resize my bootcamp partition... im running 10.6.4 with Win7 in Bootcamp... i made a mistake of only making a 80GB partition for windows 7.... now i want to make it bigger, i have read up on a number of methods but most are outdated and users report issues with windows 7 and SL so i'm a lil stuck... this is my idea
I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?
I'm running Parallels 4.0, and have XP Pro, Vista Ultimate, and Windows 7 RC... is it possible to set these up in bootcamp as well, so I can run Parallels 4.0 and run them side-by-side with my Mac, and then close Parallels, go into BootCamp, and login to any one of those? so any changes I make on either BootCamp or Parallels shows up?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to "Backup", "Clone" or create an "Image" or whatever else people call it of my bootcamp installation. I know I can create an "Image" of bootcamp via disk utility but how would I restore it? Would I first delete the bootcamp partition and then re-create a bootcamp partition and then restore? Or would I just restore? Will the end result be what I am expecting, i.e., my Win 7 install right back to the perfect state of when I created the image?
Right now, let's say my Windows 7 install got smoked one day for whatever reason (it is windows) and I needed to re-install. Me personally, I would just go into Bootcamp Assistant, delete the Windows partition then create a new one and then get installing. Unfortunately installing and updating takes hours and that is what I am trying to avoid.
I want to load XP via Bootcamp OR virtual on my personal macbook pro. However I need my XP image for work and want to do my own backup instead of waiting for my slow desktop support to fix my image. So, if I run Time Machine, will it notice all of my changes every night (backup) that I make on my bootcamp image XP.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there is anyway to pretty much copy a Vista partition on a Thinkpad T500 (university Laptop) onto a bootcamp partition, I would need to clone it because my university doesn't give us install discs, they load the OS on the laptop's as a image with all the program specific software, this would help because then I can use my mac for both OSX and class work.
View 11 Replies View RelatedOn my old macbook, I installed vista and everything worked fine. I just did that on my new macbook pro. It runs fine and all, but the Bootcamp HD isn't showing up on my desktop under my Macintosh HD. I went do disk utility and it verifiys the disk, but repair just does this:
I try to mount the image, but it fails and wants me to try repairing, which as you see in the picture doesn't work. Any ideas?
I'm taking an opportunity that just came up to upgrade to a 15" i7 Macbook Pro and wanted to run something by the community here. I currently run Windows 7 under Parallels 5 only and would love to convert to a bootcamp so I can run Windows 7 under both Bootcamp and Parallels. I know from my research some say this is impossible.
But I just thought of something and thought maybe someone else tried this. Windows 7 has a backup/restore feature that can make a system disk image. So I was thinking of trying that. Uninstalling the Parallels tools then creating a disk image. Then making my Bootcamp partition and copying my disk image created earlier onto that partition.
I am having a problem downloading a CD that contains picture images. Is there a fix?

i had a backup disk image that was 120gb stored on an SDHC card. i was able to open the disk image yesterday, but when i tried to open today, i got an error message saying it was not a mountable disk image. when i looked at the disk image in the finder directory, it showed the file was only 134k. how could that happen?
I can't figure out if it is the SD card or a corrupted disk image. Not sure how to go about recovering my data.

I go into System Preferences, choose a new photo, close System Preferences, the old photo is still there. I have rebooted multiple times, closing all programs first, just in case something open is preventing the switch. I just cant figure this out, I have always been able to change before with no problem. The ScreenSaver is changeable, by the way, that works fine.

I have a status Item app andI am using a custom view. My image in the status item has been showing and working until recently. Is it something I have changed or maybe it was a bug that it was showing and now it fix.
Here is the relevant code:

I just got a new MacBook Pro. I have my epson printer on my network. How do I get Image Capture to recognize that I have a printer. Nothing comes up on devices. I'm sort of stabbing in the dark at network settings and I downloaded the latest Epson driver. Nothing seems to work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 10 GB encrypted disk image on my macbook (type OS Extended (journaled)). I've pretty much filled up the space so I want to resize. I go into disk utility with the disk unmounted and 'Resized' it to 20GB. Then I mount it and go into the Partition tab. I drag the corner all the way down to fill up the space and hit Apply. It goes through the motions without error but it does not actually extend the partition to the resize. On the right next it then says something to the effect that the disk is read only and cannot resize the partition. The write status is read/write until I click apple....then it switches to 'Unmounted, read-only'.

I've been using an external HD as my disc image for Time Machine. Recently, both of my USB ports failed due to a juggling accident with cables connected to the ports. I'd like to send my computer for repair, but'd feel safer if I could backup before that.
Through file sharing and an ethernet cable I'm connecting to my old mac and can see the my HD for Time Machine, but how do I configure Time Machine to use that disc?

I initially set up my MacBrook Pro Retina (late 2013 - Mavericks) with one of the default images for my user account and the same for iMessage.
I've changed me user account avatar to the image I want OK, but I've tried just about everything to permanently change the iMessage avatar - it just keeps defaulting to the original image (an eagle). The image i'm using is saved locally. I've tried all different file formats, including .tif (the same format as the system default images)I've even added the image I want into the HDD>User Library>User Pictures>Animal (same place as the system default images).
But, every time I change it, then restart iMessage - it's back to default. System reboot has the same effect, obviously.
When I tell Image Capture to save a scan in a particular folder, it doesn't show up there in the Finder. This is a fairly new trick. Sometimes after considerable fiddling, they will suddenly be there.
If I go into Photoshop or Word and search for the files, both Photoshop and Microsoft Word can see the files in the correct folder. The Finder just can't see them.
I have a newly refurbished emac running the latest OSX 10.9.3. I used to be able to move images from iPhoto to the desktop and using Preview change the file size. I need to do this to upload images of a specific size to a website. Now Preview will not save the adjusted image size. I adjust the size from a 5 meg image to a 1.5 meg image but when I go to upload the image it is still 5 meg. I try saving it before closing it but it doesn't do anything (by the way I hate the new options or lack thereof when it comes to saving in Preview)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently made a clone of my Windows XP Pro SP3 installation (its roughly about 14GB according to Finder/WinClone) so i made a 80GB partition on my 320GB drive and it gives me this error message:
the WinClone came from a 500GB internal drive and ive gotten winclone images to restore to a MBP before but not sure why its giving me this error code, anyway to restore the image to the new partition (which was created with Bootcamp) as i no longer have access to the old machine it was running on.
I get the following error...
Preview quit unexpectedly while using the ImageCaptureCore plug-in.
when I try to open a file in Preview. Same error occurs when I simply try to open Preview directly as well. It was working fine yesterday and prior to that. Haven't added any external devices or done any updates so I am not sure what happened. I did however download a game about two days ago called F18 Carrier Landing....could this be the cause...

I'm in the process of a full-bore triple-boot (Mavericks, Win7, Ubuntu) reinstall, and I've run into a problem with Bootcamp 5's Wifi driver for Win7/64. When I try to connect, it sees the WEP network in my house, but when I try to connect, I get a previously unseen sequence. The first message says it's collecting data from the network, and the next one is a "Network Authentication" prompt for User name and password. For the last couple of years (before the reinstall), I just got a simple WEP passphrase prompt. So how do I get this working? I did get one "Driver installation failed" message, but when I clicked "for details" the message just disappeared. All the other important drivers seem to be working just fine, it's just this odd wifi connection behavior that I've noticed and can't resolve. The wifi works just fine under Mavericks.

I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro with two internal drives. Last night I experimented with boot camp by partitioning 50gb of my startup drive to test Windows out. Worked beautifully with the exception of lacking in some graphical processing power for some of my editing suites like 3ds max and Maya (taking care of that buy replacing the 5870 with an r9 270x).
I decided that I want to make Windows a permanent useful option on my Mac Pro by providing dedicated drives for it. Specifically, I was wondering if it is possible to install Windows on an ssd and then use another hard drive as storage for Windows. For example, can I use a 128gb ssd for my windows startup partition while using another 1.5tb hard drive for Windows applications and stuff?
