manually get CD out of a powerPC mac mini recently (they didn't have their power cords or monitor with them for software eject). I followed some walkthroughs I found on google which had me pry the casing off, remove about 4 screws from the optical drive metal casing.
View 3 RepliesMacbook screen went black even though the mac booted up properly - from the startup sounds. I took the back cover off and checked the power connector - it looked just slightly angled out so it probably was getting intermittent power [over last 2 weeks it would come on and but sometimes not until it died completely today]. Anyway, once I took the back cover off from the back [above the battery] and made sure the connector was secure it worked fine now. Might be a good tip for someone vs the time to go to the apple store.

How do we manually eject a disc from our Mac Mini. We have tried ejecting it from
finder and command E. No luck. We can't seem to find a tiny little hole to manually eject.
I am using an early 2011 Mac Mini running OS 10.6.7, which I have had for a little over a year. A new problem cropped up in the past week. When I put it to sleep manually it takes 2 minutes or more before it actually goes to sleep. I have "wake for network access turned off." The computer goes to sleep automatically at the time set in energy saver without a problem. The manual sleep delay happens whether or not I have applications running or not.

When I try to download a file I receive an error that my start up disk is full. How does this happen and how can I remove files from the start up disk in order to download a movie or other files?

I have a new Leopard Mac Mini that I was hoping to be able to use to run 10.3.9 and 10.4.11 systems off my external.
I made sure to format the external (with 2 partitions) as GUID before I copied the older OS's onto it. But when I go to choose one as start up disk, the Mini won't give me either of them as an option.
Is this a basic conflict between old OS and new Intel architecture, or is there hope for me?
I was trying to modify my monitor settings and hit the detect monitors button by mistake thinking it may help a sizing issue. Now after start up white screen with apple in the middle the monitor goes blank. Is there a way to restart while holding down keys to reverse this since I can't see anything on display?

Then along came 10.4.x and broke the version of CUPS I was using (I think that was the story.) So I backed down to CUPS v1.2.12 which I've been using since then. (The details are a little foggy so I apologize for possibly not having release versions definite.) Since then, like anyone else using CUPS I've had to reinstall CUPS every time I apply an Apple system update. Are you aware of any means to remove CUPS v1.2.12 and return to using the Apple-supplied printing components?

I thought I was moving something else to the recycle bin & at the last second realized I was dragging the stacks icon.
Was successful in missing the bin but must have dropped it off the dock & now I can't figure out how to replace it.
I would actually prefer to just have a 'shortcut/icon' for 'my pictures' there instead, as 99% of the time I clicked stacks I would go there.
I have an IMAC with OS X Version 10.5.8
Whenever I go into iTunes I get a message that there is a download that still needs to download. this is from an album I purchased over a year ago. For some reason the album downloaded but it is still sitting in the download que. So everytime I open iTunes it ask for my password in order to complete the download. How can I just delete the thing? When I right click and select delete from the drop down menu it goes away until I close iTunes and open it back up again. When I actual try to download the purchase I get the following message:

I bought a G3 iMac about a year ago as a spare computer, and had tried to remove a disk partition set by the previous user. Now when it boots after the apple logo the log in screen flashes for a second and then disappears, then the icon changes to the spinning beach ball and stays there forever...I assume it is trying to boot from the partitionthat i removed and is confused in somway, can I reset this? or will i need to boot from another device?Maybe i'll need to boot from an ext HD?

Now its been about a week and software update has been coming up and trying to have me update the files, even though I removed the application already. How can I remove whatever is left that makes SU think it is still there? I'm using Snow Leopard, with all updates. The two updates in question are Pro Applications Update 2005-01 and 2006-02.
It claims it is for users of Final Cut Studio 5.1, Final Cut Pro 5.1, Motion 2.1, Soundtrack Pro 1.1, DVD Studio Pro 4.1, Shake 4.1, Live Type 2.1, Compressor 2.1, Apple QMaster 2.1, Final Cut Express HD 3.5. I don't have any of these installed and I'm assuming something was left behind, making it think it is still here. I could leave it since the files are so tiny, but it's just annoying that it keeps popping up every 8 hours or so.

I unistalled it and now the app store will not let me purchase it through my account. I'm trying to make things right, but have hit a roadblock. I have landed up on the desktop with a temp file. Its been there for weeks, something to do with illustrator I think. I am confident I don't need it any more but I cannot delete it, says it cannot be deleted. Infact I cannot even move it, it just jumps straight back to its place.Â
I tried "sudo rm" in terminal but when I try to drag it onto the terminal window, it just moves back to the desktop and does not enter its location into terminal.
