At the very worst, I think this is the last non-GM build. But between now and the launch of Snow Leopard, how much can really be changed? Then again, a lot of people find it hard to believe Apple would seed the GM to tons of deveopers before the launch of Snow leopard, for fear that it would leak (and it has).

Going to BestBuy and shopping online, Firewire seems to officially be dead now (unofficially it's the 5th year of it's death, lol).... and USB 3.0 is all the rage... there seems to be about a 25% surcharge on the 3.0 drives. My hopes are that this week Apple's media event will launch new macbook pro speed bumps andor new features... and my question is this... Since "Pro" usually means high (or at least high-er) end, Apple shouldn't bring another computer to market WITHOUT USB 3.0 or am I not safe to assume that? I know it's been discussed, but trying to decide if I should save the 25%, or just bite the bullet and go for the 3.0... course if I get the 3.0 and the refresh on wednesday doesn't include 3.0 then I'll basically have wasted $$$
View 24 Replies View RelatedI've got a late '07 17" MBP, and looking forward to the next line-up of MBPs early next year. Just wondering if anyone thought they'd up the res (or have an option) like they did with the 17"? As a coder, I'd prefer having smaller text and being able to fit more in.
View 23 Replies View RelatedWhat do you think the chances are? I see a lot of talk about the possibility of an i3 in the base model 13". Is it wrong of me to find that absolutely absurd as you can pick up a PC with i5 for ~500. Should we not be expecting AT LEAST i5 with perhaps BTO for i7? Now that would give the MBP 13" the 'Pro' title it acclaims (along with other aspects of course). Also, how about the current outlook for dedicated graphics in any of the new models? For it to be worth adding a dedicated GPU it must be a worthy leap ahead of the integrated GPU in sandy bridge, is that sort of performance increase do-able in a laptop?
FYI i'm a current PC owner looking to make the big switch to accompany my Music Production degree at university, I've been holding out for a new MBP for some time now. I really hope it's worth the wait. And as for hoping for dedicated graphics, i'm a keen gamer and would very much like to be able to use one computer for everything and ditch my old desktop.
I have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.
If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.
Since about the 3rd day after I got my macbook pro the computer has been making cracking sounds when I open it. When it first started it just simply made one clicking sound when the hinge is halfway open. Now however, When it is open it makes cracking sounds that don't stop ( open 15 cracking sounds per open). Is this a serious issue that I need to address with my local (and very mean) genius or is this issue not going to continue to get progressively worse. If this does continue to get worse will the hinge crack open? what is this worst that could happen?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've been lurking MacRumors ever since 'the wait for Arrandale' began and finally decided to sign up now so I could post this thread. I've been a Windows user for a long time now and I have a Win7 rig at home. However, I'll be going to uni later this year so I need a good portable notebook that's suitable for the common mailing 'n surfing, but also for doing some programming in Eclipse (Java) and PHP work etc. I still have my Win7 box at home for gaming and things that require larger screensize, but for the notebook... I feel really attracted to OSX with a MBP.
It will be my first Mac, but my desktop dualboots with OSX and I love it. So that's why I have decided that my school notebook will be a Mac. This is why I have been closely watching the rumors for the new MBPs and ofcourse I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the 13" model still had a C2D cpu... It's not that I need a beefed up CPU in my notebook (... I have a 3.6 GHz quad at home ), but it feels 'wrong' to buy a MBP 13": even the 2009 MacBook has a C2D, so what will the MB 2010 update bring? Is it really worth the extra money? Anyone with a similar situation?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am a fairly recent Macbook Pro owner and I have recently had problems making changes to my desktop. I cannot drag and drop photos anymore, save files to the desktop or move files to the trash. When I try to move files from the desktop to the trashcan a popup comes up that says "Type your password to allow Finder to make changes." when I put my password in nothing happens. I know I must have changed something in my settings but I cannot figure it out.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi know you've already tackled this a thousand times, but, having read those thousand threads, i'm still not sure which of these i should go for. you all seem generous with your opinions, so i'll ask again.i need to replace my 4 year old dell 700m (12.1", 1.6ghz, 512mb ram, tiny 24gb HD) as it has become painfully slow and things are beginning to stop working. i've very much enjoyed its portability (it's small and weighs just over 4 pounds) which is why the MBA has caught my eye. my concern, is that i've heard all these things about it being underpowered - but underpowered for what? the lure of the MBP, of course, is that it's a lot more power for its moderate increase in bulk and weight.

My cousin has an iBook g3 running Panther. She is having a little trouble using it and I am here to help her with it.
It would be so much easier to do things remotely with her.
My question is, can my PC (Windows XP Home) remotely connect to her laptop (10.3 Panther)?
If not possible at all, then that's ok. If it is not possible: my new MBA will be coming in the middle of December. When I receive it, then could I help her remotely?
I just had this question because I set up her network at home remotely (XP to XP)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for an app that will let me design covers for DVD cases. Nothing super fancy, but one that will generate high-dpi results and let me create reusable templates. Most importantly, something that won't lock me into a "Wizard" mode. I've tried a few of these programs on the Windows side, and find that they're usually so constricting that your covers look generic, or they require you to be an Adobe Illustrator expert just to get anything done. I'd love to find something in between, and made for Mac.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a few programs on their original DVD discs that I want to put on another computer w/ a broken disc drive. In theory, can I create a disc image w/ the disc utility program, copy that file onto an external hard drive, and then put it on the other computer that way and have the program as workable "disc" (but it will really just be the image of the disc). On a side note, if I got a new disc drive on that computer, would I still be able to burn that file to a DVD disc in the future to create an exact replica?

I am trying to figure out how to make a clean install of SL. I just upgraded from Leopard yesterday. I got the family pack, and everything is working flawlessly
Though I want to know something; how would I make a clean install of SL? I have a bunch of apps I never use, and other junk files that live in my computer. It would take almost a week to get rid of them all manually, so I was wondering if there was a way to make a clean install? I want to clean my HD as if it were completely brand new.

The idea is I have an external monitor for my iMac. I have it connected via miniDisplay Port -> VGA. I also have a video processor (thing) - (it is able to have an Audio/Video input, antenna input, etc). I want to be able to use the single VGA monitor and switch between the two inputs when I want to use it as an extended monitor, or to play videogames/TV/etc on.

My 2010 2.93 12-core system will be here in a few days and I just thought of something important that I haven't had to think of in quite some time.
Surge Protection and Power Conditioning.
So I have a few questions for you guys, i'll let you know what I'm running and you tell me if you think im protected or if I need better protection ( recommendations would be in order )
Mac Pro 2.93 12-core
4 HDD 7200 RPM
ATi HD 5870
30" ACD
2 Powered speakers and a powered sub
All of them plugged into a Furman ML-8 Power Conditioner [URL]
What do you think? Should I get a different protector/conditioner? I've looked around and I saw this issue before on here, but it was antiquated information.
