OS X :: How To Set Pages As Default For Opening Docx / Doc Files
Jul 24, 2008I just got my new iMac 20" last week and iWork '08 with it. I just wanted to know how to set Pages as the default for opening all .docx (MS Word 2007) and .doc (MS Word 2003) files. At the moment TextEdit is the default and whilst I can change the default for individual files, I haven't figured out how to set it for every file.

May 12, 2012After installing Chrome 18 yesterday, videos in you-tube in Safari did not play. I removed the NP-PP-DIR-Shockwave plugin, and now at least some videos play.I do not have any extensions in Safari. I can watch youtube videos in Chrome which I had to install because the TV site that I was using demanded Adobe Flash and would not play in Safari. I am using Safari 5.1.7 on a Mac 10.6.8

I opened the Get Info window for a .mov file I just downloaded, switched the default application to Quicktime 7, and pressed the "Change All" button. However, if I close the Get Info window and open it back up, the default application has switched back to Quicktime Player Launcher. Background:I used "RAR expander" for a long time until I came across a file it was not compatible with. I then downloaded and installed "The Unarchiver" and it worked on the file "RAR expander" would not open.
After that "The Unarchiver" became the default program for .rar files. The problem is that "The Unarchiver" does not work well with password protected files. So for months now I have just manually opened "RAR expander" whenever I try to open a password protected file.
I want to keep both programs so I will be able to open any file, but as I rarely use "The Unarchiver" I would like to have that be the one I have to dig through sub-folders to use. That is, unless there is some excellent program I have not tried.
