I must have deleted the folder or some other stupid mistake. When googling I came across this site. Before I even open it I was in hopes someone could tell me if it is legit or if I'm opening myself up to hackers. It is called Mcintosh Data Recover Software and is free.
View 2 RepliesI have Leopard and an external FreeAgent HD. I have Quicken on the external and all my spreadsheets and letters on the Leopard I updated one of the six spreadsheets and when I went back this morning everything is gone. No pages (letters) and no spreadsheets. At first I too thought it was the hidden extension but I've tried every type of utility and finder search for file names and documents on both HD and external. How in the world you could lose all your documents?
I have never understood Time Machine. I looked there and tried to reinstall backups from the first of the month but the only thing in Time Machine is the program itself, none of the spreadsheets or letters. I'm still struggling with the conversion from Windows. Have been using the Mac for over a year now and love it but somethings are difficult to learn after many years on PC's.
After restarting my computer, all my files have disappeared. The applications are still there but any personal files. It looks like the computer has been reseted by itself. I tried some recovery tools but nothing has been found,k what can I do?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a numbers document that's just over 3000 rows and 11 columns. Searching, and certain functions are quite slow - not impossible, but frustrating. It's been years since I worked with Excel on a PC, but it was never this sluggish... Using this file, I did a mail merge with a Pages document. The merge took over an hour (this too seems slow, but since I only do it once, whatever). The resulting file is 1.1MB and just over 3000 pages. It was nearly impossible to scroll/review anything in the document. After closing it, Pages crashes upon trying to reopen the document. I got it opened on another MBP, but it's impossibly slow over there too.
It's looking like iWork is not able to handle large projects. I'm posting here in hopes that there's some magical fix that will make it work like Office (did I just say that?) The system is 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo MBP, 3GB RAM, Snow Leopard, all updated and permissions repaired this morning.
on the iwork cd i used to install it says version 9.0.3, but i still cant open .doc files with it, and when i do try to update it, it says eligible pages cannot be found in applications. What should i do?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI haven't found anything on internet about this, so how I had founded a solution, I want to share it.
One day, my Macbook White brokes and I needed to recover a curriculum, and it was in a .pages file. So I had to recover it in Windows, because I have no one who could convert it in Pages.
1� Rename .pages file and add .zip extension. That makes the content of the package visible with any zip utility, (in my case WinRAR).
2� Uncompress the package.
3� Go to QuickLook and search for Preview.pdf. That's a pdf file that contains a low quality version of your pages document. Almost all of the content is in index.xml, but It's very difficult to extract manually the information.
4� Convert the pdf file to doc with any pdf converter. For example: [URL]
5� If your document has attachments (like images), you can replace low quality images of Doc document with the original images located in the uncompressed package.
That's it, of course this works for me with a simple Pages document with an image, that doesn't mean that works for every .pages file.
How do I transfer iWork's files to icloud when iworks ends. I keep getting emails telling me to save documents. When I click on icloud from my browser, the files are still in iworks.

I tossed the Word Plist file and that did not work.
I have run Virus Barrier X5 and found a about 10 files with Virus 'W97M/Pinky.B' "Quarantened" them and still have the problem.
The problem started -- I think -- when I was doing heavy editing between Numbers and Word. But I don't think it is related (though who knows at this point). Without these programs I'm rendered pretty useless.
How do I set my Mac up so that when I get a Word, Excel or Powerpoint file, I can click on it to open it and have it automatically open in Pages, Numbers or Keynote?

I need to update iWork on my Mac cos iWork 08 docs don't work on my new iPad. But iWork 09 is about 18 months old now so surely will be updated soon. Would anyone who is learned in the product cycle of Mac apps care to hazard an educated guess on an update?

Is there any talk of an update of iwork '08 during Macworld '09? I am a switcher to Mac as of last month and I really like pages instead of word. I've been using a trial version and I'm going to buy it, but I was wondering if I should stick it out by using google docs in the event that they release iwork '09. View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I used the iWork '09 trial for 30 days now and now I have a box version and I want to simply use the buy function from the trial to upgrade to the full non-trial version. It has: Quote: If you've purchased an iWork '09 box, you'll find the serial number on the Installing iWork '09 booklet. There's only one problem, there's no serial number on the booklet! How do I install using the buy function or do I have to install the full iWork suite again on my computer? Seems kind of silly. If so, do I need to then uninstalling one of my versions of iWork '09? And if so, which one? How do I tell the difference at that point?

I record my activity for my job in an excel file on my MacBook Pro, and for some reason, the last few files that I have saved have somehow disappeared. They are simply not there when I go to open them. Is there any way I can track them down in my computer?

I recently backed up some DVD's via Toast using Toast own file format.They were backed up straight to the external HD itself.
I checked that they were all working after the process finished, they were working.
But I think my MBP went into standby whilst the External HD was still connected, and so it was never ejected properly.
Now that I've come to view the files again, they aren't there!!
There's just a Zero KB file, called 'photography', which was the name of the folder they were stored in.
I've tried viewing the folder under windows via VMware, but it says the folder is inaccessible due to being corrupt, or something.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for recovering those files?
The external HD is NTFS, I think I used a patch so that my MBP could read/write files to it.
I lost everything on my desktop, all my folders and files. When i go to the MAC OS X and click on desktop it says : The folder "Desktop" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges. I don't know where all my things have gone. I can't save anything onto the desktop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB running OS X 10.5.6. Had it for over a year, no problems until tonight. I was having trouble connecting to a printer via Airport and rebooted the MacBook. When it loaded, my desktop photo was gone, my customized dock had reverted to the first-run configuration and my entire Documents folder was empty. The capacity info at the bottom of the Finder window reassured me that my files were still there. I restored them to an external HD with Data Rescue, then ran the repair utilities from Disk Utility using my Leopard disk. Rebooted with no change.
Then, attempted to reinstall Leopard with my original disk and after I selected the language, it told me that Leopard can't be installed on this computer. About this Mac still shows version 10.5.6. All apps are intact and boot up but they all boot in first-run mode. Entourage has lost my mail database and my multiple email accounts/passwords/instructions. I've been on Macs for 20 years and never run into anything like this. How do I straighten this out? I'm willing to put in the hours to reinstate passwords, preferences, etc., but I really want to know what's behind this in case it happens again.

Some days ago I lost all of my 15 GB folders and files that stored in my Macbook Pro hard drive called DATA. I brought my Macbook pro to an experienced computer tecnicians who providing data recovery services. To his and my suprise, after checking, scanning it a few hours, he said their is no way to recover because he did not find any trails at all. The computer still seems working properly - I have no problem with any applications. There are few other folders in the DATA hard disk containing pictures, computer programs still remain. These lost folders and files contain mainly documents (word, excel, power point, pdf etc) which I accumulated in my many years working !!!!. I did not make a back up since last September partly because I think Mac is very safe.Â

A few days ago, I opened iTunes and a notification appeared saying my Library was "damaged," and then proceeded to reopen with about 500 songs missing. I went through my iPod to find a few of the songs that were on it that were erased from my Library (I haven't synced my iPod since it happened for fear of losing the songs for good), intending to simply re-import them into my Library - but the files were nowhere to be found. I opened Finder and searched for quite a while, but I couldn't find a trace. Â I've tried opening iTunes while holding down the Option key and choosing a Previous Library, but the most recent of the Previous Library .itl files is the same one - the one missing 500 songs. Â
