We lost a few files we were working on yesterday. Nothing saved after about 1PM can be found. Eek! . Is there a good way to deal with this, see if there are files there that are not showing up somehow perhaps? Or a good file recovery program perhaps?
View 4 RepliesI have a clone of a former G5 startup drive on a WD MyBook external HD that has never really been able to boot for the past few months, especially on an Intel MacBook. I've been able to recover some of the info manually using an old G4 Powerbook, but never completely recovered all of the info. I tried doing all that DD Rescue stuff, but it became a little too involved and over my head. There are still a few documents I'd like to try and salvage from the drive. Although the drive does get recognized on my MB, I can't access the info. The drive is actually in three partitions and I can only access one of them for some reason. I'm thinking about purchasing something like Disk Warrior to see if this would work. Is Disk Warrior or a similar program worth a shot?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI accidentally deleted all of the files on a friend's portable drive, when using terminal to try to delete a very large folder (the Trash Can was not working it was so large)--since the files/folders were very recently deleted I am looking into data recovery software to get the files back. The problem is that the HFS file system seems to be designed in such a way that once a folder/file is deleted, it is very difficult to recover it's name even if its data can be recovered, so most data recovery programs (such as FileSalvage) will recover only known file types and give them a a number (such as 0004.jpg). Does anyone know of any Mac/HFS recovery software that has found a way around this particular issue and can recover data with the folder structure/file names intact?

I was working on a short story I had not yet saved in Microsoft Works Word Processor when it said it became unresponsive and had to close. I have been searching all over the computer for traces of this unsaved file.
Under C:/Windows/Prefetch there are files from around the time I lost the document and they are "PF" files. There is even one called WKSWP.EXE-25E36596 , which gives me hope it might be related to the file I was working on. When I open it in Notepad I get gobbly goop.
What's a good program that will let me see everything on a drive that's been deleted? Accidentally lost some video files on a shoot and am trying to recover them. Tried FileSalvage but it doesn't see MXF files.

The main problem is, the memory indicates the files are still on the computer somewhere; instead of 298 GB I still have 240 GB.
I did not save the recovery key for filevault 2 when I set it up. For safety I would like to store it somewhere. Can I access it ? Somewhere in the keychain ? Otherwise I will have to uncrypt and recrpyt all my disk.

I just deleted one folder size of almost 5gb. Was full of personal videos. So they are not like small size of 10k pics. There were like 40 videos in total. What is the chance to recover them in good condition? And with which app. would happen best? I just downloaded 2 apps, stellarphoenix and Mac File Recovery. I started stellar and it is taking forever to search the hard drive. I tried the MFR for like 10 minutes it seemed a little faster but the videos and most of the files weren't in good shape.

I'm on a 2008 model Mac Pro 8-core system for work. For whatever reason it doesn't have a recovery partition. I read that if I don't have a recovery partition, I can't make a recovery USB bootable drive....so how do I make one? And no, I cannot reinstall the OS on here, that would be beyond detrimental to what's going on here. (too many details to get into)
Alternatively, can I make one with my 10.8.5 MacbookPro at home and run it here on my Lion system?
The file extension is exactly that, .igs. I can't get it to open using anything, nor can I find very much information on what programs even deal with it. I see alot of stuff about .iges.
These files were created about 6 years ago. I've tried TurboCad demo, eDrawings demo, TouchCad demo. Nothing works. All say unsupported file.
Tomato Torrent, BitTorrent AND Transmission are not downloading torrents. I've tried them all on many different files and not one single torrent file is working on any of the programs.

There seems to be a problem with connecting to tracker, however I have been using Tomato for months and it has worked perfectly in the past.
I got a 6gb file I need to send to my other computer since its I cant get the network configured and its too big for a dvd. Files that big wont be sent over aim or anything really. How on a mac I can break it down into smaller files? Its a .iso

For example; Numbers keeps opening downloaded files intended for Quicken. I can change the program to open the download, but I can't find a way to make the change be the default.

Whenever I attempt to change the default program to open a file, it automatically reverts to whatever was selected previously. I work with a lot of .ai files and my default Illustrator version is set to Creative Cloud. CC crashes constantly on my machine, however CS6 runs smooth as silk. I'd like to be able to double click an .ai file and have it open in CS6, not CC. When I right click > Get Info > Open with and change it, it reverts as soon as I click "Change all..."

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to burn some DVDs. I first burned in Finder and found out the hard way that that makes terrible quality data disc DVDs. Then I tried on iDVD, and at first it said it would only take 3 hours to burn a 1 1/2 hour movie on Professional Quality, so I was happy. But as it was encoding, it jumped to 16+ hours! So I tried again with only high quality, and it still said 8 hours, and now after 10 hours is still encoding. So, I need something else that's faster. I also need something relatively easy to learn/use. It may sound like I know what I'm talking about kind of, but I really don't and I just barely figured iDVD out. I still want it to convert into DVD quality discs (and good quality - I just got a new HDTV and would even like to try burning HD or Blu-ray discs). And I need it to be free.
So, my needs are:

#3 - GOOD QUALITY CONVERSIONS
#4 - EASY TO LEARN/USE
My computer has 500 GB of capacity, but I have seen that every time I open a file or boot something the memory used rises a little. Is this normal? It is the first time that I have seen.

I accidentally deleted some images from my new MBP yesterday, and unfortunately didn't have them saved anywhere else. They were the last set I had shot on my CF cards, so I found some file recovery demos that I was able to view the recovered files with, but since they were just demos, I couldn't save them. Is there a FREE program that will let me retrieve the files, or will I just have to shell out the dough for a good file recovery program. In that case, what does everyone recommend?

In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.

I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro, the new unibody ones, and I installed Windows XP, using BootCamp.
I made it a 29 or so GB partition, so it used the FAT32 formatting.
The program I tried to install is the eyeQ speed reading program, and the laptop exceeds every single one of the recommended requirements.
The problem comes when I am attempting to install the program, I keep getting an error message in which it says "This program cannot run on a computer with less than 64 megabytes of ram."
Last time I checked my laptop has 4 GB of ram, and it says the same thing when I checked it while running Windows XP.
My only guess, which I made while typing this, was that I should have formatted the Windows partition using NTSF.
I want to capture selections on my screen and add comments. Is there a program out there that will allow me to do that? I don't like the "grab it" program because it saves the captured file in a Tiff format instead of a Jpeg format.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for an app that will allow me to specify which folders I want to copy to my external drive, updating existing files within it and copying new ones.
I don't want to backup settings, my whole harddrive nor make a bootable backup. Just something to backup what I want to backup and where.
Not sure if Time Machine can do that, but it wants me to reformat my external before I can even find out..and considering how much is on there, I really don't want to have to remove that all elsewhere while doing so. [Don't think I could anyway, none of my internal drives have that much space.]
So, does anyone know of a relatively painless backup app that could do simply what I want? Doesn't sound all that complicated in comparison to some of the more convoluted backup apps I keep finding.
I am trying to switch my email program from Thunderbird to the mac email program Mail.Thunderbird has been playing up a lot recently and am tired of the glitches.
I have all the correct server settings etc and succesfully imported my mailboxes. The problem is that when I send an email it isn't from the right email address?? Is this a Mail problem or smth to do with my settings? I'm with Virgin media and have a separate set of email address through my website for my business so my email address are through freeola that I am using through Thunderbird.I'm sorry if this all sounds very stupid but I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out where I have gone wrong!
