OS X :: Leopard Firewall Continuously Prompts For IPhoto Permission?

Mar 3, 2008

Can someone help me figure out why every time I launch iPhoto, the Leopard firewall prompts me to choose whether or not I want to allow or deny access for this application to accept incoming network connections...regardless of the fact that every single time, I choose 'Allow'? Here's a screenshot of the exact prompt that appears:

I've checked the Leopard firewall configuration in the 'Security' preference pane (which is obviously configured to "Set Access for Specific Services and Applications", and sure enough, iPhoto appears in the list with the 'Allow Incoming Connections' setting chosen....but it still asks me every time if I want to allow or deny connections, and I can't figure out how to make it stop asking??

OS X :: Location Of Firewall Log In Leopard?

Feb 27, 2008

Where is the location of the firewall log in Leopard?
When I click on Security> Firewall>Advanced> Open Log nothing happens.

I can't access the internet since I can only connect to a private address starting with 169.254.xxx.xxx

I'm thinking some firewall issue has suddenly made not able to use DHCP to access the internet.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Firewall Info In Console?

Aug 29, 2009

In Snow Leopard, I'm noticing that I get a lot of these messages in Console now:

Quote:

Aug 29 09:49:07 MacPro Firewall[77]: Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP 192.168.2.6:57065 from 68.87.73.242:53

That 68.87.73.242 address is my Comcast DNS server.

They show up as a Info type message in Console. No real problem, just curious if anyone else is seeing that.

Software :: Leopard Firewall Seems Barely Configurable

Mar 31, 2009

I hope I'm just missing something, but it seems the Leopard firewall took a huge step backward from Tiger. I want to configure it to permit certain ports to connect, and it seems I can't do that basic thing. All I see is a way to tell it which apps should be allowed to receive external connections. That's quite unsatisfactory to me; is there a way to just open up ports?

OS X :: Snow Leopard Blocks Incoming Connections - Firewall Is Off?

Dec 17, 2009

I got an iPod Touch today and I'm while I was testing out some apps I noticed that I cannot connect to my MacBook Pro.

If I try to ping it I get no response. Going to the Mac's address in a browser (web sharing is on) I don't get any response either. I cannot connect to for file sharing either. I have turned off the firewall in OS X and rebooted the computer with no change. All sharing options are enabled. If I run "sudo ipfw list" I get this: "65535 allow ip from any to any".

It appears however that Snow Leopard allows connection from outside the local network, as Internet, BitTorrent, Mail etc. works as usual.

I've tried turning the firewall off in the router but connections are still blocked.

Software :: Leopard Firewall Stops SMB File Sharing

Apr 17, 2009

I have a PMG5 with Leopard 10.5.6 on it. I did have it sharing with the PCs on my home network via SMB. Lately, however, it has stopped and XP kept giving errors saying that could not connect to the Mac . I tried every fix and checked every setting I could find on the net, then, on a whim, set the firewall to allow all incoming network connections (essentially turning it off). Wallah! Suddenly the Mac and the PCs were friends again. The firewall is set to allow File Sharing to go through but it isn't doing it. It will only share when it is off. What do I need to do to solve this issue?

OS X :: Snow Leopard Firewall In Stealth Mode But Responding To Ping Requests?

Apr 19, 2010

I've just tried running the security test on the Shields Up! site, and I note that even though my firewall is in stealth mode (and Shields Up! reported that all the ports it probed were stealthed), it failed the test because it replied to an ICMP ping request - and yet the Snow Leopard firewall specifically states that when it's in stealth mode, it won't respond to such requests.

OS X :: Snow Leopard File Sharing & Permission Options In A System

Apr 26, 2010

In iTunes when I right click on a song and click "get info", then change some info, it doesn't stick. It goes right back to what I already had in there before. I then realized that this is because every file inside my iTunes music folder is set for "read only" and not "read & write". So after I change it to "read & write" all changes I make in iTunes will take. However, I have a lot of music and therefore a lot of files inside my iTunes music folder. Going into each and every folder to change its permission to "read & write" would be tedious and time consuming,

Hardware :: IPad Prompts Changes To Way Magazines Count Circulation?

Mar 16, 2010

Though it's yet to hit the market, Apple's iPad is already changing the rules of the games when it comes to how magazines quantify their readership and distribution, unlocking the potential for more lucrative advertising contracts with their sponsors.

According to the Associated Press, the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) -- a non-profit audit agency that assesses circulation, readership, and audience information for magazines and newspapers -- has altered its definition of a digital magazine to include the emerging class of tablet-style devices. This means that magazine publishers can design their article spreads to be accessed by applications on the iPad and count paid digital subscriptions to those apps as part of their overall circulation, given that they include the same content and advertisements as their print-based counterparts.

Had the ABC not instated the change, publishers would only be able to count digital editions of their magazines that existed as exact facsimiles of their print editions, according to the AP, affording them little leeway in customization for gadgets like the iPad. "Magazines need the change because they charge for ads based on the size of their so-called rate base, the circulation they guarantee to advertisers," the report explains. "By comparison, newspapers have had looser restrictions. Because they don't guarantee a rate base, they can count people who pay for access to their Web sites regardless of what ads run there."

There's one caveat, however: the ABC must approve each iPad app, and those for other tablet platforms, before its subscribers can be counted as part of the magazine's overall circulation. A version of Conde Nast's Wired magazine is said to be among the first apps to receive such approval. The publishing firm is also reportedly working on similar apps for its GQ, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Glamour offerings.

OS X :: Unable To Setup Printer On Internet / Prompts For Password

Oct 31, 2010

Recently I purchased a Canon PIXMA MG5220 wireless printer. I have installed numerous printers, software, hardware etc on other comps as well as this one and have never had a problem... until now. I connected my printer to the internet access port (my home network) and everything went fine. But when I put in the canon disk to load the software and add the printer to my comp, I click on setup, it prompts me for my user pw to allow install. I do that and when I hit ok, nothing happens...

No other window loads or anything. It's like there is nothing on it after the pw prompt. I tried it on a diff comp (windows based PC) and it worked fine... why wont it load on my iMac? Very confused. Also, I turned off my firewall thinking that would help, but it did not... any help is appreciated.
