OS X :: Installing Java Options On 10.4.11

Mar 29, 2010

Doing a complete new install on a number of pre-cleaned HDs on numerous models of older donated Macs (G4/G3s desktops, iMac Bondi CPUs) for a graphic design program I'm starting for inner city kids. After installing 10.4 from an original Tiger disk, then installing 10.4.11 combo update followed by Security Update 2009-005, I want to insure I'm also using the most recent version of Java for this install as well. But when I install Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 9, I get the message I need to install earlier version(s) first(?).

Software :: Installing New Version Of Java?

Aug 19, 2010

My computer is a MAC OS X version 10.4.11.

I'm trying to begin indexing for family history work, but whenever I try to install the program, a message comes up saying I need a newer version of Java. I check for system updates and my computer says there are no updates available. Is there some way I can still download this indexing program?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Installing Java For 10.6 Update 7?

Apr 6, 2012

I've been having some troubles, all of which occurred after installing Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 7. Here are two I've found so far:

1. Terminal takes quite a long time to open new tabs.

2. Quicksilver hangs (and eventually crashes) when I try to type any type of text to search.

When the applications hang, no keyboard input is accepted in any application, though it is possible to use the mouse to move windows. how to revert back to Update 6?

Intel Mac :: Installing FTP Browser - Need To Install Java Runtime

Apr 19, 2012

I've been attempting to install an ftp browser and I keep getting an error message that says "You need to install a Java runtime, but you are not connected to the internet". However, I am connected to the internet! I've attempted to access the Java preferences, but I get the same error with a subtext that reads "to install a Java runtime, open Java preferences again." Again, I've attempted to reopen Java preferences only to find the same error message and subtext.

OS X :: Font Options In Safari After Installing Some Downloaded Fonts?

Feb 23, 2009

The other night I pulled some fonts that I downloaded a few years ago off of my external hard drive and installed them one by one into Font Book to the User profile. Right after I finished this, I noticed that now about 80% of the text on pages in Safari now appeared as the Yahoo font, instead of what they used to be (I visit about 10 different sites on a regular basis, so there's probably a variety of fonts that normally appear, but now most things appear as the Yahoo font). I don't have any style sheet selected in the Safari preferences, and the font preferences are untouched from what they are when Safari is installed. Not only are a lot of sites now hard to read because of the mess that the Yahoo font around size 10 is, but its just flat out annoying to read that crazy font.

I was running java 1.6.0_33 on my Mac Lion and later I installed java 1.7.0_05. Now in my Java preferences I see both the Java SE available.Now my problem is when I enable Java 7(& select Enable applet plug-in and Web start applications), my JNLP file doesn't run with java web start, from Safari as well as Firefox. When I try running the jnlp using Open With option and selecting Java Web Start present in /System/Library/CoreServices, nothing happens.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Does Java/Java Applets Work In 10.6

Apr 15, 2012

I made a Java applet with Xcode 3.2 and i load it to firefox or Safari(Yeah i've updated my java)and for example

i made a HELLO WORLD simple applet to be in black color letters, then compiled and yeah it worked but then i redid it for the letters to be red.. and they kept being black..no matter how many times i recompiled the applet.

And yeah the HTML is pointing to the correct class file. Also, If if i add a Thread and implement runnable.. then nothing shows up in the canvas.

And also, what ever happened with the appletviewer application? We don't have that anymore.

now the only way to run applets is through a web browser.  Is java applet developement in 10.6 really over?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Java Apps Won't Run, Java Preferences Won't Launch

Apr 27, 2012

Since the flurry of 2012 updates, Java is completely broken on my Mac Pro.  Java dependent apps don't start and Apple Support says to enable the apps in Java Preferences. Nice idea, but Java Preferences WILL NOT LAUNCH either. There were plenty of tools to address flashback and they DID NOT break normal day to day operations.I downloaded the package from support to try a re-installation, but it says "A newer version of Java is already installed" and offers me the option to Close. No reinstall, nothing. Apple support is at it's usual level of service on this issue, completely INVISIBLE.

OS X :: Updating Java / Not Automatically Grab Java 1.6?

May 10, 2009

I am brand new to Mac (I got a G4 laptop in trade to replace a dead windows desktop).I am trying to install Limewire and it tells me that I cannot: "could not launch application because it requires a version of Java that is not installed". It goes on to acknowledge that it can see everything up to 1.5...but that I need 1.6.

So, I go to Software Update and make sure that I have 1.6. It tells me that there are no new updates, that my computer is up to date.I think I recall being told that I am running Leopard on this laptop.If java 1.6 is available, and I do not have it, and my computer tells me that there are no new updates that my computer needs and will not automatically grab java 1.6, yet I need it to install anapplication....what are my options?

OS X Server :: Installing OS X Or Server - Ssh, ARD Or VNC Only Options

Aug 22, 2007

Got a Mac Pro in a server lab... it has 2 hard drives, IP address is static and assigned from Sys. Prefs, not from DHCP server in the location.

I don't have physical access to lab, and I want to install 10.4 or 10.4 Server on the *other* partition that is empty at the moment. Has to be clean isntall, so can't just clone the existing hd. Both hard drives are 500 GB, other has only 10.4.10, other is empty. If it will make it work better, it will be an option to partition the empty one.
VNC, ARD and ssh work.

How can I install Mac OS X or Server??? Install discs can be located either from another Server where it is backed up, or local dmg or ISO file.

Would selecting Server to be installed instead enable ssh to be open from when it boots to installation? As long as ssh, ARD or VNC in any combination enable me to log in it should work. (or even just ssh, can always kickstart).It may get another IP though when booted to installation as I've got no guarantee it's totally bound to MAC addresses... no one has a clue of how the DHCP server settings work in that location.

I would love to use asr to restore as that would be a lot more simple, but I would still need to install the version I want to have restored somewhere else. That's not an option .. as the only space available for that is on that Mac Pro.

Windows On Mac :: Installing Boot Camp Drivers Without Installing NVidia Driver?

Jul 28, 2009

I just finished up a fresh install of Windows 7 and downloaded and installed the NVidia driver from their site directly since the one in the Boot Camp files is pretty old and technically the Vista driver anyway.

But I still need the Brightness, Sound, etc key functionality. Is there a way to selectively install Boot Camp drivers? That's the only one I need. The wireless, chipset, video and everything else works just fine (and in some cases better) than the ones included in Apple's setup.

OS X :: Limewire Asking For Java

Oct 31, 2009

So I just decided to install Limewire today. When I installed the newest version I couldn't use it because it required Java 1.6. I learned on the internet that the only way to get around this was to buy Mac Leopard and I'm not about to do that for Limewire. So I thought I would take another route and try to install an older version of Limewire and get around not having Java 1.6 that way. I downloaded Limewire 4.18.8 from this web page: [UR:] . When I open the installer on the computer, I click "Continue' on the first page, I choose to install the application on my hard drive, I get to the Install page, and click "Install." It then tells me: "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install."

OS X :: Why Java App So Slow On MBP

Jan 14, 2009

I'm using a new MBP, and need to use some java apps for trading and flight management. The UI and the speed, and the alerts from these applications just runs very slowly on the mac. Sometimes, the alerts don't even work. I've tried Camino, Firefox and Safari. Safari SEEMS to be the best for speed, but the worst for things like Alerts. Firefox, the new 3.0 beta 2 seems to be the most stable. Also, when I close one of the Java windows, about 30% of the time the whole application crashes.

Software :: Finding Java 1.6 For OS X 10.5.6?

Feb 1, 2009

Long time browser, first time poster. I just have a question about finding the Java 1.6 update for my macbook pro. I did a search first and came up with nothing. I went to Java's website and all it recommends to do is run a software update which I have done, but it only updated me to java 1.5. Apple and [URL] only have the Java 1.6 update for the "64-bit capable Intel" computers, but I guess my machine is a 32 bit. I did a google search and there are plenty of blog and computer sites that say it is available, and has been since April of 2008. Can any of you point me in the right direction on where I can find it? Just trying to get Limewire to work on this thing (its my first Mac, pretty fancy machines these things are, very happy with it).
