Apr 6, 2012I've been having some troubles, all of which occurred after installing Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 7. Here are two I've found so far:Â
1. Terminal takes quite a long time to open new tabs.Â
2. Quicksilver hangs (and eventually crashes) when I try to type any type of text to search.Â
When the applications hang, no keyboard input is accepted in any application, though it is possible to use the mouse to move windows. how to revert back to Update 6?

Jun 7, 2012I found a strange glitch with file permissions when accessing a network drive, on Lion. I am accessing my internal drive on my iMac over Wi-Fi from my MacBook. I am logged in under my user name. I notice that for every file on the remote drive (on my iMac), "staff" and "everyone" are ready only, but read & write access is reserved for "macports". Macports? It does not list my own name as having read & write permissions, and so I cannot save any file to this remote drive. When I access the drive locally on my iMac, the permissions appear correctly for the same files, i.e. my own name is listed as having read & write access. Is there some kind of glitch where the file permissions are misread when accessing a drive over the network?

Sep 28, 2008I made an image of my Windows XP laptop drive using Macrium. I can see the image file there on one of my Mac Pro's internal drives, but Im not able to select in Fusion.. Is there a way to make a Fusion VM from this image? If not, how do I go about creating a VM from my laptops's HD? I'm using Fusion 2.6.

Jun 7, 2009I guess curiosity got the best of me and I attempted to re-flash my working Sapphire 4870 with a different bios image provided here, and now when I boot I dont get any video. Just a black screen and no chime.
After this I tried putting in my old 7200gt to try and get it to boot so I could reflash back to the old firmware - but as long as the 4870 is installed I get no video at all. As soon as I take it out everything works fine.
Please advise me on what to do next.
OS X Server :: Macs Sometimes Netbooting From Wrong Image?
Jan 26, 2007Occasionally when we netboot a Mac, it boots from the wrong image!On the OSX Server (10.4.8), the default image is a standard NetBoot image. There is also a NetRestore image used for restoring/cloning and also a NetInstall image used to upgrade Macs running OSX10.3 to 10.4
A few times we have found that although the Standard NetBoot image is set as the default, a Mac has booted to the NetRestore image, which is very worrying as the NetRestore image is set to erase destination hard drive before it restores !
How can this happen even when the standard netboot image is set as the default ?lso, one of the G4s in our PhotoStudio Netbooted this morning instead of booting of its internal/local hard drive even though no-one had selected this!
I guess this happened because the Mac could not find an alternative startup disk to boot from ? However after NetBooting, we were able to restart the Mac normally, from its local hard drive. Very strange.......Fortunately, this time the Mac did boot to the default Netboot image on the OSX server so the NetRestore did not 'kick-in' ! However, due to the recent behaviour I feel I cannot trust the NetBoot Server in case it starts up from the NetRestore image and overwrite somesone hard drive!
OS X :: Unable To Updating Latest Security Update 2009-001 And Java 10.5 Update 3?
Feb 14, 2009I have problems since applying the latest security Update 2009-001 and Java 10.5 Update 3, I have 10.5.6 on the new unibody 2.4ghz and have completely lost the ability to connect to my wireless access point which is an apple airport extreme base station.
I can sometimes se the base station but cannot connect to it and sometimes cannot see it at all. I have three other apple computers at home all less then a year old running the same build of 10.5.6 but have not updated them and they all are fine.
This one was perfect untill I applied the update.
The machine I am having problems with is partitioned with windows 7 beta on it which has no problems connecting to the base station, which indicates that its not a hardware problem but more then likely the update which is causing the problem.
Is there a way to uninstall the last update or delete it? Any one with a similar problem or know how I can fix it, I have googled but cannot seem to find anyone with similar problems.

Jul 6, 2012I was running java 1.6.0_33 on my Mac Lion and later I installed java 1.7.0_05. Now in my Java preferences I see both the Java SE available.Now my problem is when I enable Java 7(& select Enable applet plug-in and Web start applications), my JNLP file doesn't run with java web start, from Safari as well as Firefox. When I try running the jnlp using Open With option and selecting Java Web Start present in /System/Library/CoreServices, nothing happens.Â
When I try running the JNLP file from Terminal suing command /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.app/Contents/MacOS/Java Web Start xyz.jnlp I get following errorÂ
Java Web Start splash screen process exiting... Can not find message file : No such file or directory.Â

results in a picture (picture2.jpg) that is the size of the sum of picture.jpg and hidden.rtf.zip. I presume this means that I am successfully putting hidden into the picture.I can open picture2.jpg, but I can't figure out a way to access the hidden zip.

Apr 27, 2012Since the flurry of 2012 updates, Java is completely broken on my Mac Pro. Java dependent apps don't start and Apple Support says to enable the apps in Java Preferences. Nice idea, but Java Preferences WILL NOT LAUNCH either. There were plenty of tools to address flashback and they DID NOT break normal day to day operations.I downloaded the package from support to try a re-installation, but it says "A newer version of Java is already installed" and offers me the option to Close. No reinstall, nothing. Apple support is at it's usual level of service on this issue, completely INVISIBLE.Â

Apr 19, 2012I recently purchased Lion and was excited to install from the app store. Purchased and it appears to be downloading but stops about 3/4 of the way through and I get an "NSPortTimeoutException" error. I tried downloading a simple free app and same situation. I ran disk utility and hard drive is fine. I had no issues with running software update until recently. I thought this may be the problem so I ran software update again. I gives details regarding several updates. When I attempt to install the updates, I immediately get a prompt to restart my computer. I run software update again and the same list of updates come up. The updates are not being downloaded or installed. My Internet connection is fast and reliable.Â

May 16, 2012I installed the latest update 10.7.4. After the nice progress bar finished, I just get a nice Apple logo and a spinning wheel of death. Rebooting gives me a new progress bar and a new spinning wheel of death. OPTION-start does not really help, since there is no DVD drive on the MacBook Air Core2 to reboot from.Â

May 19, 2012I installed 10.7.4 update and now my screen goes black. It is quiet random at times, but mostly goes black after a few seconds from wakeup. Pressing the space-bar restores the screen, then sometimes it goes black again almost immediately.
Anyone else having the same problem?
