Im using Snow leopard and everytime i press the play/pause button Itunes is launched... this is cumbersome because i use Ecoute to listen to my music so i basic dont have a shortcut to pause my music.

basically, it really annoys me when i use spotify the play/pause controls on my keyboard will work to pause spotify, but will straight away start to play itunes, and vice versa. is there a way to disable this.
I love using the play/pause button on my macbook when used with itunes, it's handy as ****. But the problem is, that it affects VLC as well, and it plays a video and the audio interrupts whatever music I'm listening to (even when no video is opened but vlc is running, it'll open my last played video and play that alongside the music). I never had this problem with the old version of vlc, but ever since updating, vlc has now been wired to work with the friggen play/pause button.
I tried looking in VLC preferences to see if it could be disabled but couldn't find anything regarding the mac play/pause keyboard button. Any ideas on how I can stop vlc from being affected by this key? And I'm not keen on the idea of going back to the older version unless it's my only option.
I'm sure this has already been posted, and I apologize if it has, but a couple of searches turned up empty.Anyway, I just discovered this today and I'm praying this is a bug and not a "feature". When you click the pause/play button on the Apple Remote, iTunes opens and begins playing. The same thing happens when you hit the pause/play button on the media bar. I thought I was becoming dyslexic because iTunes kept playing randomly. It was only until today when I discovered this bug while playing a file in VLC. Apparently it happens with pretty much any app.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI got my new 13" MBP two weeks ago and I've been using the F8 button solely for playing and pausing songs in iTunes. I think it's great to have this because I can easily stop my music when I want to watch a youtube video and the audio is coming from somewhere else and not iTunes for example The problem is, whenever I press the F8 button now, it stops the song in iTunes but it starts playing a video in VLC...I checked both system preferences and VLC preferences but couldn't find anywhere to control what the F8 button controls.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to iTunes 8.1 when it showed up on Software Update. Since then, I've noticed that when I hit the Play button to play anything in my Library, there is a long pause (about 6-7 seconds) before the audio file starts playing. Have any of you had this happen to you?
This is on 10.4.11 on my iMac G5. My drive is getting short on space (and I'm aware of issues do to short drive space ), but it didn't do this before the upgrade to 8.1. Let me know your thoughts...
The play/pause and skip/rewind buttons on my keyboard are not working with the latest version of iTunes (11.3.1). I've read about fixes related to the Google Chrome extension, but I don't have that extension. I noticed that the buttons work with Spotify but not with iTunes. When I test the buttons on iTunes, I make sure that Spotify is completely closed. The play/pause function is especially important to me, as I use it to transcribe interviews quickly.

It appears that the function keys to control iTunes/Quicktime (FF, Play/Pause, and RW) are not working. At one point they did but now it doesn't. All the other function keys are functioning just fine and dandy. I have the "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" unchecked in the preferences. I looked around and there doesn't seem to be any setting that would explain the sudden malfunctioning of the keys. Is there something I may have missed?

I recently noticed the 'play/pause' key on my keyboard no longer plays or pauses media while in iTunes. The 'fast forward and backward' buttons do not work as well. The buttons also do not work with other media programs (such as VLC) where they previously had. I cannot think of anything I have recently done to turn these keys off.

the new alu wireless keyboards feature a rwd, play/pause and fwd button on the keys F7, F8 and F9.
Since I have the previous version, the white fullsize bt-keyboard, I was wondering if it is possible to somehow map these features so that they work with my keyboard?
I've noticed that my music control buttons on my laptop are not working after I start up chrome. when i boot i can use them fine with itunes but when i open chrome they become unresponsive.I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC to mo avail.

If any of you recall, in System 7, you could double-click a sound file and it would just play without launching an app. The OS itself was capable of playing sounds, like system sounds or even music files (you could also use QuickTime). This was pre-iTunes. I miss those days. The other day, I was trying out some sound effects, and double-clicking them launched the behemoth bloatware app, iTunes. Of course, I could pick another app, but I would prefer no app at all, i.e., system-level, ready-to-eat sounds; just click and it plays. Does anyone know of a system-level plug-in or background app that works in this way? An analogous system function would be clippings. Double-click one of those and it just pops up; no app launches. This is how System 7 worked, and I sorely miss it. I use sampled sounds a lot, and I just want to click on them to quickly hear what they sound like in that same simple way we once could.

My F8 doesn't really do anything anymore and does not even light up in Keyboard View. I've tried to use Sizzling Keys, and reset Keyboard Shortcuts but the problem still persists. View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen pausing a song, either by pressing the Pause button manually, using the shortcut on my keyboard, or using the spacebar, when I play it again it will rewind partially. Â
The shorter the song, the shorter it will rewind; if the song is something like 3 minutes long, it will rewind a second or two. However, on large songs which are an hour or more long, such as continuous albums etc, it can rewind maybe 10-20 seconds. It's as though it is rewinding to a fixed spot as well. Â
After researching, I can find nothing except a similar query to mine but it was happening with podcasts. I don't listen to podcasts so I can't comment here, but I know that my songs are rewinding after pausing. Â
I have noticed it only tends to happen to songs a certain bitrate (VBR), songs with 320kbps for example don't rewind.Â
I can't find anything to turn it off or disable it, but it is extremely annoying when a song rewinds. (I have done the basics as in restarting the application and restarting my Macbook Pro, this did nothing).Â

If I have some MP3 files on my computer that have not been imported into iTunes and I import them by selecting them and opening them (thereby opening iTunes, copying the files to the Music folder, and adding it to the library), I noticed that the pause button becomes a stop button when it automatically starts playing a track. If I click the stop button, it stops playing the track, and when I click play again, it is not a pause button.

I've got a late 2009 Core i5 iMac that I got on release. I'm not sure if somethings up with the HDD, but for the past couple of months iTunes has to pause music to rebuffer it so to say when playing it from the local disc.

I started to use alarm clock 2 an alarm clock application. But for some reason even though I deleted all the alarms I had set to go off, one still seemed to linger on. And it is still lingering on even though I have deleted the application.
Every morning Itunes launches and starts playing music at 8am and there is no indication that there is another application launching it. I've looked in widgets? that didn't work and I cannot seem to find where the problem is so I can fix it. Also this thing, whatever it is is intefering with my computer for instance I cannot rotate with cmd+tab, through the open applications anymore.
I am using the latest version of iTunes on Windows Vista, but this issue has been around for a while in my experience.
I double-click on the iTunes icon on my desktop. I get the hourglass for a second, but then nothing happens. I can do this as many times as I like and the program will not launch.
Checking Task Manager, I see the iTunes process is running as is the iTunes helper. I kill both, then try to launch iTunes - same thing. Nothing.

About 4 days ago, iTunes started launching on its own after my iMac has been sitting idle for a while. It doesn't start playing music, it just starts up the main screen. I didn't install any plug-ins or any other software prior to this happening.

Initially I just disabled it by removing components from prefs or other locations in /Library or using AppDelete. Is there a way to stop the self-launching without removing components that only make it harder to use when it has to be reinstalled from scratch. I just want it to be a normal app I click on when "I" want it to open.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do I remove any application association with the F8 key? F8 is currently launching iTunes when I hit it and since I don't use iTunes on my work computer and need F8 for other functionality this is interfering with my workflow. I do not see any association with the F8 key in System Preferences > Keyboard Preference Pane > Keyboard Shortcuts. The only thing listed there is: Move focus to staus menus ^F8 I also do not see any way to remove the F8 association in any of the iTunes preferences.Â

Recently, iTunes has been freezing almost immediately after launching, irrespective of other applications running. The problem persists even in Safe Mode, and I have to Force Quit the application each time. Some times it runs fine for one song, but usually freezes immediately (not responding with spinning pinwheel). Â

I'm running iTunes 7.6 on a MBP 2.4GHz with 10.5.2 installed. Last night, after having a problem with Compressor not launching(ie it would launch but no window would display), I was forced to take Apple's Compressor Troubleshooting basics and trash Compressor, Qmaster, and Motion. I reinstalled those applications without a hitch and everything is working. Or so it seems until this morning when I tried to play a song in iTunes. It would hang up briefly, then quit. The subsequent error message was that "...The Problem may have been caused by the FX plug-in." I trashed CoverSutra, thinking that may have been the problem, despite the fact I never used it. I even uninstalled iWOW2 with no results. Trashing the iTunes .plist did yield some positive results as songs would play, but if I tried to quit iTunes, it will automatically relaunch.
After perusing the Apple support discussion, it seems this is a common problem, although many of the reports were from last month. I just find it odd that all of a sudden I'm now encountering these problems. I do have Synergy installed, but I've never had any problems with it before in the past and even with it not running, iTunes still behaves poorly.
make it go behind another window on which I click. It won't go back. Stays on top.
Windowshade lets me reduce it to just the title bar, but I'd like the window still open — and not minimized to the dock.
In the prefs I do find a box to check (or uncheck) for the miniplayer and videos, but nothing for the main window (unless I'm just duh, overlooking something—not unusual.)
Any pointers? I'm OK with Terminal, if anyone has the magic words there.
