OS X :: How To Open .ics Files Properly

Jul 1, 2010

I just experienced a strange thing while clicking on links for .ics calendar files on two different macs. On one machine it works as it should, i.e., you click on the link and a popup window asks if you want to save the file. If yes, it will then open the file in Entourage. Great. On my other mac I click on the same link and it just opens the file in its raw form, almost like viewing the source code of a web page. Does anyone know why this is so? How can I get the file to open properly on this machine?

My Trackpad on my MacBook isn't working properly. I can move the arrow around the screen but I'm unable to open any applications. I plugged in a mouse and it works fine. The trackpad settings in system preferences seem fine, I didn't spill any liquid on it and didn't let it fall.

OS X :: External HD Not Mounted Properly - All Files Gone

May 12, 2009

I was writing files to an external hard drive that was NTFS using NTFS-3G by MacFuse. However, I closed the macbook lid and it went to sleep and I unplugged the drive. Then, when I opened it back up again, it said it wasn't unmounted properly and now all my files are gone on the drive! However, there are only 58 gigs worth of files showing on the drive, but it says there are 132 GB used. So I am guessing the files are still on it, just not showing up. Is there a way for me to see these or access them. It is very valuable files!

Hardware :: Mac Cannot Detect Files - Camera Not Properly Ejected

May 6, 2009

I would like to ask about retrieving some lost files (photographs) on my computer/camera. On Sunday evening, I was uploading photos from my Sony DSC-T10 camera onto my Mac OSX v.10.3.9 Powerbook. While I was deleting some of the files I had uploaded, the camera battery died and was not properly ejected from my computer. After I re-charged the batteries, I connected my camera to my computer again and the computer could not detect any files/photos in my camera. I had approximately 512 photos on the camera that have disappeared.

Note that when I connect my camera to my computer, the files I had been deleting just before the camera battery died shows in my Trash folder. However, when my camera is not connected to my computer, the files do not appear in my Trash folder. I went to Applications > Disk Utility to attempt to find my lost files and the following information appears at the bottom of the screen:

Format: MS-DOS File System
Permissions Enabled: No
Folders: 0
Capacity: 949.8 MB
Available: 775.5 <B
Used: 174.3 MB
Number of Files: 512

OS X :: Open .pst Files On Mac Without Outlook?

Mar 12, 2008

I've got some mailboxes in Outlook 2003 on my Windows work machine that I'd like to export and open on my Mac, maybe saving them on a USB key and taking them home. Can I open or work with these on my MBP running Leopard? The emails only have to be read-only, even just being able to open and read them would be OK, but I'd also like the attachments, if at all possible. I can't currently test this on my work (Tiger) Mac as Mail isn't working. Any clues from the wise ones?

OS X :: Mac Unable To Open MSV Files

I have a Sony dictaphone which is great. Sad thing is, they use a retarded format called MSV, which technically is very good, but the thing is, Mac is unable to open it. I tried with iTunes and Quicktime, none of them works. I searched google, but found only five year old forumposts about it. Hopefully, it's possible to download a codec plugin for Mac OSX Leopard.

Applications :: Any Way To Open EXE Files On G4

Feb 12, 2009

Whenever I get an exe. file I've been just deleting them, because my computer [a G4 PowerPC with OS X 10.4.11 Tiger] can't open such files. For example, on a movie download site, a free torrent downloader was offered, and it said for PC or Mac. Yet when after I downloaded it to my desktop, I found an exe. file. And such files are of no use to me, since my computer can't open them with QuickTime Player or anything else it has. Please tell me how to open exe. files, or how to convert them to something else that my computer can open.

OS X :: Alternate Way To Open .sit Files Under SL?

Sep 5, 2009

I think at some point in the past I had Stuffit Expander installed on my Leopard box. I suspect this because when I browse to a .sit file I still get the choice to 'open with stuffit expander'. If I select this choice I get a text edit file with a bunch of gibberish in it.

I don't want to reinstall Stuffit on my SL box. I remember Stuffit being really invasive and try to take over the unzipping of .zip files from the OS X archive utility, etc.

So, I have two questions;

1. Is there any other way to unpack .sit files?

2. Is there any way to clean out the last traces of my previous stuffit installation?

I am presently on an IMac with Snow Leopard installed on it. I found an old cdrom disk of mine that I burned a few years back when I had a Windows computer. I think it ran Windows XP Home. Anyways, I used a burning program called Hotburn to burn the disk. I burned my address book, several photos, different folders of various things onto the disk. For whatever reason, the file extensions on every file turned into .ink. So, how can I open them on my mac? I copied the files on the burned disk to a new folder on my imac.
