I downloaded Stuffit expander but it doesn't open anything i DL some things off of Limewire and i can't get them to work at all i dont understand when i select the mac osx OS for the item i am DL it downloads and gives me a file with .exe then i read that i need to have stuffit but that does jack
View 4 RepliesI'm using my girlfriends mac and trying to download RAR files. I know nothing about computers but I don't have any problem with most files. If I click to download a zip file Stuffit comes up as the default to unarchive. Correct me if I'm wrong but Stuffit should work for RAR files as well right?
I would just change my preferences to Stuffit as the default for RAR's but I can't find it. I know this seems stupid and I am a total n00b but I can't find it anywhere (in my apps which is where I thought it would be.)
When I attempt to expand password protected files using Stuffit Expander 13.0.3, I get an error saying "An error occurred attempting to expand /Users. The structure of the archive is damaged (error #17540)". I don't however get these errors when expanding files that aren't password protected, they expand normally with Stuffit. I've tried using the Archive Utility.app but it just creates a zip file and creates another rar file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to create a split archive of a file over 1GB for posting on my blog. I'd like it to be in RAR format so that both Mac and PC users can access it. I heard I could do it with Stuffit Deluxe so I bought it and now I'm seeing no such option. Neither to create split archives or to create RAR archives, let alone both.
Does anyone know how to do this with Stuffit Deluxe? If not, can you suggest another software?

Was using a dongal from Orange UK - OK on Leopard but freezes the Apple laptop.
Have checked that it is supposed the be alright for the administrator to have access read and write.
Downloaded additional update software from Orange which is zipped.
Cannot get Stuffit to open as write protected and do not know what other file could be of use. The following is the error message:

For example, on a movie download site, a free torrent downloader was offered, and it said for PC or Mac. Yet when after I downloaded it to my desktop, I found an exe. file. View 5 Replies View RelatedI think at some point in the past I had Stuffit Expander installed on my Leopard box. I suspect this because when I browse to a .sit file I still get the choice to 'open with stuffit expander'. If I select this choice I get a text edit file with a bunch of gibberish in it.
I don't want to reinstall Stuffit on my SL box. I remember Stuffit being really invasive and try to take over the unzipping of .zip files from the OS X archive utility, etc.
So, I have two questions;
1. Is there any other way to unpack .sit files?
2. Is there any way to clean out the last traces of my previous stuffit installation?
I have a few .m3u playlist files I created on a pc, but when I try to open them in VLC or Itunes they won't open. In Itunes absolutely nothing happens when trying to open the file. In VLC I get a couple errors. One is a 'File reading failed' and the other is 'Your input can't be opened' for each file it tries to read from the playlist. Any playlists created on the Mac work fine. Any ideas on getting the PC created lists to work though?

When I put in in the slot it recognised it and when i double clicked it it came up with a load of files that have a black background with green lettering inside. When I open them i choose an application and it just says 'Unreadable Files'. I want to inport the video files to iMovie. Any idea what going on?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am presently on an IMac with Snow Leopard installed on it. I found an old cdrom disk of mine that I burned a few years back when I had a Windows computer. I think it ran Windows XP Home. Anyways, I used a burning program called Hotburn to burn the disk. I burned my address book, several photos, different folders of various things onto the disk. For whatever reason, the file extensions on every file turned into .ink. So, how can I open them on my mac? I copied the files on the burned disk to a new folder on my imac.
