Mar 18, 2010As the thread title state, I accidentally clicked "Learn Spelling" on a misspelled word. How do I undo this action? Where is the user dictionary stored on the system (10.6.2)?

View 9 RepliesI have a file that, for some reason is set to "No Access" for Everyone in the Sharing & Permissions of the file. I tried to change the owner of the file to another user (with admin rights) but when I type in the name of the new user, OSX tells me that the name I entered is invalid. Is this new file owner the same thing as the account names I have setup in System Preferences? If so, why would I not be able to change the user.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI migrated OldNameUser1's data to a new account named User2. Until some test are completed with User2, I cannot delete OldNameUser1's account. I then modified OldNameUser1's name to NewNameUser1 by: modifying the user name shown in the account's system preferencemodifying the user name shown in the account's system preference (advanced options) After renaming OldNameUser1, it's home folder is still identified as OldNameUser1. How can I modify it to NewNameUser1 ? When that will be done, will I be able to use OldNameUser1 as User2's account name?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to 'bulk' add new words to the InDesign dictionary? I do a lot of menus and a lot of the food terms come up as spelling mistakes.
I was wondering if there was a quicker way to customize the dictionary than telling the spell check to learn the words as I go. EG add one huge text file to the dictionary with all the words or something.
I still get beach balls when doing the basic of things. For example, it sometimes takes 10 seconds for the dictionary to come up after right clicking a word and selecting "look up dictionary". Then again, sometimes it is instant. Similar things happen when looking at a document that is a .pdf, for example, and I want to save as a jpeg. Whether I go to "save as" or through the "print" and then selecting "save as a pdf", it can beach ball for 8-10 seconds.
I thought it may have been a ram problem and from another thread I discovered the "activity monitor" and have that running constantly in the dock showing me "System Memory" and for the stuff I'm doing, it hardly ever gets close to half the pie chart.
I am subscribed to a calendar on iCal, so iCal will not let me modify any of the events that I am subscribed to (states that it is "read-only"). Is there a way that I can change the settings so that I may able to modify it? Is there something I need to download in order to make this work?

I need to modify my keyboard layout to change the Help key to sent the Insert code instead. I'm using a Citrix ICA client to remote connect to my mom's work PC (Windows XP). She uses an old DOS program that requires you to press the Insert key to enter a new order. When we are remote connected, and we press Help (which is supposed to be Insert) it still sends the Help command.
Does anyone know a way I can modify the keyboard layout in OSX to change Help (or any other key) into Insert? Even through 3rd party software is fine.

But I can modify everything when its connected to my PC, so I know this is a format issue. My question is how can I reformat the HD so I can use it for my back up off of the Airport Extreme?I really don't have the money to go out and buy the Free Agent Go for Mac, and this drive was just used to transfer data from my PC to the MBP when I first got it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to change the default blue apple icon on my menu bar to a flowery apple. I followed a procedure online and have saved my Extras.rsrc and Extras2.rsrc files to the desktop, the first in PPC and the second in Intel, yet I cannot seem to move these files back into the Resources Folder. When I try to copy and paste them or insert them into the folder I get an error with a number and the message "this folder is not modifiable". Does anyone know where I can go from here to change my apple icon?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an old 867 Mhz G4 MDD that I would like to be able to leave running 24/7 as a server, jukebox etc. Right now it's noisy (these things are legendarily loud) and power hungry. It won't have to work very hard. What could I do to make it efficient and quiet enough to run 24/7, without dumping a lot of $$$?
Obviously what I really need is a mac mini, but this will have to do.
I've made a secure PDF document by using the print method. I select Print from Firefox or whatever and then select the PDF button located in the lower left-hand side of the Print Dialog. Next, I select Save as PDF... from the list and then Security Options. In this window I enter a password that restricts modifying and printing the PDF and save it. If I open the protected PDF in Preview and try to print it I am prompted to enter a password, however, in Adobe Reader things are different. In Reader V10.1.2 for Mac The print menu option is greyed out and I can find no way to enter a password or print the PDF out.

I would like to find a non-working 21.5" iMac, and use it as a second monitor to my existing 21.5"er.
Of course, the monitor portion would need to be working.
I would like the second monitor to match the iMac. I can't find a 3rd party mfg'er that makes a monitor that matches close enough.

In my home machine I have several email accounts. I have a wife, two company accounts, and 4 young kids and each of them has is own account
Still they all look like as follows
My Name <mywife@mac.com>
My Name<sonaccount@mac.com>
and so on
As my kids receive emails, when they want to reply they would like to have their name in the header as this
mywife <mywife@mac.com>
sonaccount <sonaccount@mac.com>
In the Mail preferences the names are grey and cannot be modified
Before iCloud this was easy to do, but how to do so in the latest version of Mavericks?
I can no longer use one of my accounts. What happens when I try to add it to Mavericks Mail it recognises the log and pass as correct, however the Mail option is not available.
Trying to enter the mail box from SAFARI the iCloud, com website recognises my log and pass, clicking on the MAIL option it asks me to enter the log and pass again, doing so it tells me that log is already taken
I don't understand how this is possible as these are all paid account for well over a decade and I am already correctly in my iCloud account.

Things I've tried:
1) Clear error logs with Onyx

3) Repaired permissions
4) fsck -fy
Is there such a thing out there? I want a simple application that will let me set the update frequency to once a day.
