OS X :: How To Look At Event Log

Mar 8, 2009

In windows, there is an administrative tool called "Event Log" where you can see all the events that occurred in your system (applications, security, system). Where is that in OS X? Is it the console? If it's the console, is there an easier way of looking at the info? Event log usually "dumbs" down the info so anybody can understand it.

Like looking at the console, it's hard to tell whether an event is an info, warning, or an error.

Final Cut Pro X :: Event Became Empty

Sep 11, 2014

Yesterday one of my editors finished a project for a client. Today the client requested a change. When my editor opened FCPX 10.1.3 to make the change, my editor found the event he was working in yesterday to be completely empty. I stepped in to see what happened. Indeed he was correct, the event (Warm Springs) is completely empty! When clicking on the event , the "import media" button shows thus validating the idea that FCPX sees this event as empty.

When I went in to look at "show package contents," It shows that there is indeed stuff in that event. What my editor may have done to cause this problem in the first place but why there is stuff in finder level of the event file but nothing is showing up in FCPX?

MacBook Pro :: Way To Expose A 3-finger Tap As Another Event

Dec 23, 2008

I have tap-to-click enabled, so there's 1 finger tap to click. There's 2 finger tap to right click. There's also 4 finger tap to select an app in the application switcher. But no 3 finger tap! It would work beautifully for me if bound to be a middle-click event. I cannot find ANY mention of this, anywhere. The only results I can find are mentions of the bootcamp XP issue with two-finger taps.So here's my question: Is there any way to expose a 3-finger tap as another event?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: ICal (Version 5.0.2) Cannot Add Any New Event

May 8, 2012

I am running Lion OSX 10.7.3, and iCal version 5.0.2. When I try to create a new event in any day of the calendar, I get the message: You can't add or change events in the Birthdays calendar.

Events in the Birthdays calendar come from your contacts in Address Book. To change them or add birthdays, use Address Book. I do have birthday events in the calendar. They were created in the Address Book. But I can not add any new events.

OS X Mavericks :: Can Calendar Event Name Contain Time

Aug 25, 2014

When I enter an event in calendar, I name it and put the time right after the name.  It then enters the time in the detail box that can be opened up regarding the event.  What I want to do, however, is show the time in the calendar, right after the name, without opening up the detail box.  If I open up the detail box and edit the name by adding the time, it will stay there.  Is there a way for me to avoid this extra step and have the time show up right after the event name when I create the event?

OS X Mavericks :: Adding All-day Event By Text Only?

Aug 20, 2014

If I add an event to iCal such as "Tomorrow 9am Breakfast meeting with George", the event will automatically show up in my calendar assigned to tomorrow 9am. I don't have to go into the event window and enter the time and date.

But I cannot figure out how to enter the text for an all-day event. I have to manually go into the event, click on the time, then select "all-day" and hit enter.

Any way to do this by simply typing some version of "all-day" into the event text?

ICloud :: Messages Sent For Every Change As Event To Calendar

Mar 20, 2012

I am trying to use iCloud calendar services for collaboration with my wife, and my secretary (I actually even bought a mac for my wife so that we could do this). However every time either of them change anything in their respective calendars I get an e-mail from iCloud saying an event has been created. This only started about a week ago. I have checked to see if some of my settings in iCloud have changed, and they haven't (the box in iCloud that says: "E-mail me when this calendar changes" is not ticked). Why I am suddenly getting all these e-mails which are quite irritating.

MacBook Pro :: How To Trigger Automated Event In ICal

Mar 30, 2012

I'm trying to fix an issue I had for a while with a automator script I want to use. I added several things it should do, test it, and it works fine. I use it usually as an workflow. But I tried to implement it through an iCal event! Which does not work. (and I checked already in preferences if the turn off all iCal alarms is unchecked) I the workflow basically to open when I first fire up the MacBook, but only once, not when I start it up again later n the day. So I thought about adding the workflow to the startup, but that would open it every time I start my MacBook. How can I get around that? By a iCal event? If yes, how can I fix it, that it starts not at a specific time (I don't start my computer at the same time every day) but when I first open it.

Safari :: Unable To Play Event Videos?

Jun 12, 2012

I'm finding weird issues in Safari 5.1.7 under Snow Leopard the more I use it.On this Monday, I attempted to play the Apple WWDC 2012 video numerous times in Safari. The stream ticker loads as though the video is loading. Unfortunately, it never plays. What I see on the screen is a blue box with a white question mark inside where the video should play (image attached).

In addition, Safari will not play the other Apple Event videos prior to June 2012.I only see a white screen when attempting to play videos prior to June 2012. However, the WWDC 2012 and all other Apple Event videos play perfectly in Firefox 11.0.I've uninstalled, re-downloaded and reinstalled Safari with no success. I've also repaired permissions twice with no success. As well, I checked to be sure that no extensions were causing this
