The default items in iCal are "Home" and "Work". How do I add things like "School", or "Vacation" so they have their own color? I did add a subscription calendar. Also, how do you add background pictures to a specific day (like a fireworks on the 4th of July)?

Any idea what might be going on? I try to double click a new event. No luck. I try to right click and "get info". No luck. I go to the main bar up top and click on edit, then edit event and nothing. Weird as heck. I did a search in this sub forum, but got no results.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI created an everyday reoccurring event in my iphone for one of my summer classes. I unfortunately forget to add which day it ends. Then it was uploaded to ical and then to my google calendar via nemusync on the iphone.
I dont know how it worked out but now I have an event on both my ical and iphone that I cant simply "delete future events". Now I have to delete every single one for 80 something months or something like that.
The question I have is how do I remove a single recurring event. I have tried deleting the very first occurance of the event and it didnt work. I have tried deleting it from the iphone and ical. Nothing works other than deleting each one, one by one.
I was just wondering what other iPhoto users are doing when importing some random shots into iPhoto, that doesn't belong to any particular event? Having all those unnamed events in the Events folder is cluttering it all up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedLike many of us nowadays, I own an AVCHD camcorder which works very well with iMovie other than the fact that the AIC files that iMovie creates are huge. This has prompted me to dedicate a firewire 800 external hard drive just for these files. I have my project files on my iMac internal hard drive, and the event files on my external firewire drive. All is fine and dandy, however I am wondering how to backup this external drive knowing that drives don't last forever.
My biggest concern is not only how to back it up, but really will a restore on a new drive actually work? The reason I ask is that the iMovie project files have instructions to point to the specific event files on the external drive. But if the external drive dies and a new one replaces it, how will the project files know where to point to? Would an exact clone of the original drive work (such as with SuperDuper)? Would it need to be given the same name as the original drive? What about a Time Machine restore on a new drive? Would that work, and if so, does the new drive also need the same name? Does the clone or new drive need to be Firewire 800 (same as my original) for iMovie to think it's the same? And if I want to buy a bigger drive at some point, I suppose I would need to migrate the event files from within iMovie, rather than through the Finder, right? I believe iMovie does this well, but if you go through the Finder, you're in trouble with iMovie?
I have backed up my original SD cards from the camcorder separately as disk images, but I would not want to have to reimport all the footage and then recreate all my projects (last resort)
I have the Google Notifier toolbar app installed on my computer and since about two months the Create Event option from the Google Notifier: Calendar link hasn't been working. It keeps telling me there is an error every time it brings me to the page to create a new event.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOne thing that annoys me about iCal is that when I hit the shortcut to create a new event, I have to hit another shortcut to bring up the edit window. Ideally the edit window would pop up immediately upon creation of a new event, but I can't find a way to make this happen.
Does anyone know a work-around for this?
Another annoying thing is that I can't just hit Cmd-N to open a new event; I have to make sure I'm in a calendar that can be edited before creating a new event. I don't think there's a fix for this; I think it's just one of those things.
I searched for info about this, but I didn't find anything.
Any time I try to remove an icon from the dock or an item from the login items and then logout/restart they come right back. It's like OS X is remembering my last login and then just duplicating it. I can't get it to keep it the settings I give it. Google and a quick search of the forums gave me nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy own account login items list in my systems preferences window is limited to one item- an istat menus helper app. But my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder contains two items that I don't recognize and don't think have much to do with starting up the computer. One is a Qmaster folder and another is named RDUSB00A3Startup. Each folder contains a few items, including a unix executable file and a plist file. My mac hd/system/library/StartupItems folder is empty. Can anyone please advise on whether the items in my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder are necessary and if deleting them could affect my computer? I don't use Qmaster and have no idea what the RDUSB00A3Startup folder is for.

For some reason since installing a new OS I can't remove programs from my Dock anymore? I used to be able to just right click on the program and select remove from dock but everything program I now right click on says "show in finder" with no other options to delete it. I've only just recently installed OS X 10.3.9 (I can't remember what I used to have on here as this was a new OS CD).
View 17 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from Connect 360 to Vuze, mainly because I always had trouble getting Connect 360 to work, and I was only on trial. I deleted all of my Connect 360 folders, and removed it from the preference panel, leaving me with just a Connect360.prefPane sitting in my trash. When I try to empty the trash, I get the following messages:
The operation can't be completed because the item "Connect360Helper" is in use.
The operation can't be completed because the item "NRCommon" is in use.
The operation can't be completed because the item "EDCommon" is in use.
The only applications I have running are Adium, Bowtie, iTunes, Safari, Transmission, and Finder. I thought it might still be linked to finder, so I quit that and tried to empty, still not luck. So I don't think it's being used in any of my applications.
So a few days ago, I noticed my Applications Folder shows 0 items. EDIT: My "Macintosh HD > Applications" has my Applications. However, "Macintosh HD > Users > ~~ > Applications" doesn't. What's the difference between the two? And if my Apps are in the Apps folder under "Places", what's the point of the one under my name?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIn preferences for iTunes and iPhoto you have the option to copy items to the applications or not when importing. Obviously if you copy them when importing then you will take up more hard drive space since you will now have the items in two locations.
Is there an advantage to copying items instead of not? I did have it set up to copy items (defaults that way) but would prefer to save hard drive space.
Whats are your preferences and why?
What is the advantage of having iPhoto importing and copying all pictures into the iPhoto library file ("copy items to the iPhoto Library")? Is there any reason why that would be better than managing the picture folder structure manually and just having a reference to the pictures?
I think iTunes has the same feature and offers to import/copy the music files into its library.
I plan to get my first Mac next month and wonder if I should enable this "copy items to the iPhoto Library" when moving my 50k pictures from Windows to the Mac or if that's not a good idea...
but I end up with sent items in my label/folders at least when I reply. So, for example, if I label an email "important" it ends up in an "important" folder. But if I reply, then the sent item also shows up in that folder within Mail. I know that this results from Gmail's use of labels rather than folders. It's not a problem in the Gmail/webmail interface because of the threaded display. But what I'd like to do is set a filter within gmail that basically strips any sent mail of all other labels so that when working within Mail I don't get the sent items showing up in the inbox or labels/folders.
