MacBook Pro :: Random FPS Drop In All Games?
I'm running the June 13inch MBP with a 2.53GHz processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 250GB HD. At random times while playing games my FPS will drop down significantly, and seems almost capped. Sometimes it then drops further, or will go back to normal. An example would be World Of Warcraft, where I will be idle at 60fps, and without any movement or activity the framerate will then drop down to 30fps, and will not go lower than 28 or higher than 32. I activity monitor shows no abnormalities. The worrying thing is this also happens on windows 7 in bootcamp, on games such as call of duty 4, making it most probably a hardware fault. I'm pretty sure its nothing to do with overheating as it often happens while the computer still feels relatively cool.

IMovie 11 :: Importing 24 Fps Footage From A Canon HV30 But Turns It To 30 Fps
I think I'm missing something. I'm wanting to try out some 24 fps video, so I switched my HV30 to HDV (pf24) and started a new tape. Made some recordings, and when I import them into iMovie 11, the clips show up with a little yellow "30" at the beginning of each clip. When I drag them to a 24fps iMovie project, it confirms that the clips are in 30, but the project is in 24.

MacBook Pro :: Games In Boot Camp Smooth Versus Games In OS X Choppy?
I have a Late 2008 Macbook Pro, mid-range model. I have Call of Duty 4 for both Mac OS X, and Windows XP through Boot Camp. I have all the proper drivers installed on Windows.

When I run CoD4 on Mac OS X, the framerate is choppy even on the lowest graphics settings. On the higher graphics settings, forget about it. I have the high-end graphics card enabled.

When I run CoD4 on Windows XP, you would think I was playing an Xbox 360. On the highest settings, the game runs at at maybe 40fps, smooth as butter.

Why is this the case? Is it the quality of the Call of Duty 4 port itself that causes the game to run poorly? Is it a driver issue?

(I have also tested other games on Windows XP, and they all without exception ran amazingly fast. Gears of War and Bioshock, both on highest settings, ran almost perfectly.)

OS X Leopard :: Slow FPS On New Macbook?
I have a new macbook pro 17" and all was working fine. I use the system to run inhouse unix programs via the X11 for 3D rendering. On my other 15" all is working okay with about 53 fps, but on the 17" the frames per second for viewing the exact same data is now less than 2 fps. I have updated the OS level on both to 10.5.8 and compared the network settings and both are the same. Actually, I also took both systems off the network and the same difference. Have done the usual reboots, etc. The slow fps means that the 3D image is moving slowly and jumpy on the 17" compared with real time movement on the 15". I suspect that something is not interacting with the graphics card, but not know how to tell.

IMovie 11 :: Changing Framerate At 60 Fps?
Not sure if this is the right place to make this post, but where else?

I've got a MP4 file recorded at 60 fps.

All I want to do is change the 'default' frame rate of the file so it plays at 30 fps, at half speed without losing quality.

That's why I recorded it at 60.

There must be a simple way of changing the file data or whatever without re-processing the video.

IMac :: Possible To Overclock 5670HD - FPS Improvements
Would it be possible to overclock the 5670HD in the 21.5" iMac? I heard somewhere, judging by the device ID, that it is a 5730M card. I have been watching the thread on clocking the 5850M, and seeing the great FPS improvements, so was wondering if it would be in anyway possible to do it to the 5730M. Power Mac G5 :: PM G5 Quad - FPS With GeForce 7800 GT
I recently acquired a used PM G5 Quad, with 4 GB RAM, and a GeForce 7800 GT (256 VRAM). I boot from two internal 7200 rpm 500 GB disks built up in a RAID 0 configuration under OS X 10.5.2.When playing with World Of Warcraft, CPUs won't get used much (approx. 10% per core only !). I barely get more than 22-25 FPS on average, with all options turned off. This is in 1280x1024, so really not a huge resolution.I found out the Multithreaded OpenGL option, which helped (I was getting less than 20 FPS before this), but this this seems to be disappointing. It's not much more than my old PBG4 with a Radeon 9700 Mobility w/ 128 MB VRAM

MacBook Pro :: Increasing FPS For Video Gaming?
I just had my macbook serviced due to a couple of faulty sensors and they had to replace the logic board. Now that I have it back it runs fine and doesn't overheat but when I log in to world of warcraft, my FPS will not go above 15... I've tried to figure out how to increase it but I still have yet to figure anything out. I have the unibody macbook pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. the FPS that I had before i had the macbook worked on was around 25 to 30 FPS. if anyone has any tips or tricks to manually change video card settings that would be great.

IDVD (iLife 09/11) :: Changing 25 FPS Of PAL Into NTSC
Usually, I use JES Deinterlacer for changing the 25 fps of PAL into 29.97 NTSC, before burning in iDVD. Recently I've started shooting with Sony's EX-3, full HD (in PAL mode). If I'm using JES Deinterlacer, the resolution would drop from 1920x1080 to 720x480 (adding 2 black rectangles to keep the 16:9 ratio). With the 720x480 res I would need to choose 4:3 aspect in iDVD. Can I keep the original resolution of 1920x1080 and just use another software for changing the frame rate, then burn it with iDVD in widescreen 16:9? Is there anything like JES for that? Or does NTSC DVD means always 720x480?

Windows On Mac :: Vista 64bit For Games But What If The Games Are Not 64bit?
I was told to run Vista 64bit for games, but I was wondering about this Since many applications dont even have a 64bit version out and I dont think games are 64bit, will they all run under vista 64bit? I have a feeling this might be a dumb question, but I just wanted to make sure before I go out and buy Vista 64.

Also do you think windows 7 is better for games? Will it even run games that have not been written for it? Or would I just be better sticking with vista 64 until everyone has caught up and made their apps compatible with the new windows 7? I mean will antivirus programs, ripping apps, etc work under windows 7 without a hitch, or should I wait and just use vista64 for now?

Final Cut Pro :: Tried To Shoot 60 FPS For Slow Motion?
I have a DVCPro HD clip, 720P, 59.94 frames per second. I was hoping to get a medium slow-motion effect in FCP. So I imported it and put it in a 23.97 frames per second sequence. It shows at regular speed. I looked at the clip in the Viewer. I found a part of the action that lasts one second, and I counted 60 frames for that second. But in the Sequence, that same action shows only 24 frames. I used Modify - Speed to slow it down to 40%. I hoped I would see all 60 frames of that one-second bit of action. But instead of showing all 60 frames, FCP uses only about 24 frames, and copies each frame once or twice to stretch out the action. So the action looks jumpy instead of smooth. A friend last last month shot something with the Panasonic HVX200 at DVCProHD 59.54 FPS, and he got a smooth slow motion effect in FCP.

Mac Pro :: Flashed 4870 And 10.6.3 - Terrible Fps Since The Update?
by following the very active community you have set up for the scene of flashing PC cards to work under OS X I myself bought a 4870 XFX ZWFL & ZWFC 1GB and flashed it.This occurred about one month ago, and since then the card has been working flawlessly, so a big thanks for that.

A very nasty problem occurred after the 10.6.3 update tho, as since then I started having horrible fps's in any application that required 3d acceleration (say, World of Warcraft); down from a rock steady 50-60fps (that easily topped the 120 mark) i can barely get a 30fps after the update.

I checked the other topics, and all of them pointed me into downloading the last version of Zeus and update the drivers, wich I did for every time an update (or fix for a fix) as been released, and tried every time to install both before and after the reboot from the 10.6.3 combo update.

I'm using only one monitor, so I did not encounter any problem concerning dvi ports not working or anything.

IMovie 11 :: Frame Rates For 18 Fps Super 8 Hard Drive Transfer?
What frame rate should I work with: 24 or 30 fps? My footage was shot at 18, and after transfer I have a file marked 18 fps. I've been working at 24 fps for now, but this is just a rough cut. I read that DVDs do 24 fps, and that they convert to 30 fps as needed. Is that right? So I should work at 24 fps? I don't want to have to redo all my edits if I change my mind, so I'd like to get it correct right at the start. Also, is there some way to save all my edits in a journal file that can be run on another piece of footage? I say this so I can try the same edits on different versions and at different frame rates. If, say, I edit with the Large Optimize setting, but later want to switch to Full, do I really have to manually redo all my edits? Target? DVDs for friends. DVDs that might play to a hi-def set capable of doing progressive scanning. Perhaps data files to send to friends. Publishing on the Web, perhaps.

Final Cut Pro :: Editing With H264 File Playing At Variable FPS
I'm editing on a Mac work book using FCP studio 2. So I received a file from a client that need a blur to cover some content they didn't want shown, any way the file is encoded h264 720x480 and the fps is variable? That is when I watch it in QT with the info box open the fps changes from 23.97 to 24, to 16 to basically all over the place. So my 1st question is. Is the file corrupted? it plays fine but when I try and convert it into DV-NTSC it wont let me keep t as 720x480, and it plays back at 10fps so I tried to just bring in the original file into FCP it plays fine except when I put an effect on the video freezes for a frame at the frame the effect stars and stops on. I tried all sorts of dissolves and fades out and key framing to work around even adjust in - and out points of effect but still where ever the effect starts on the video freezes for 1 frame so looks like a stutter.

A. The movie actual playback FPS (meaning even though it says 30 FPS it might not be).
B. The movie is indeed 30FPS but playback FPS is just FPS of playback as effected by system performance in qt player. but in an NLE it will playback true 30 FPS.

Final Cut Pro :: Convert AVI To ProRes - Frame Rate Of Clip Only 15 FPS
Two interesting issues I came across today with QT/FCP. While I just the problems are just bugs, I'd like to see what others think. A friend of mine has some SD video he shot in MJPEG AVI's. When trying to convert them with QT to ProRes 422 (HQ and regular), the frame rate of the resulting clip is only 15 fps. The original is 30. What's strange is that if I hard set it to something like 29.97, or 60, it still comes out 15 fps, and just gets artificially boosted to whatever I set. So, I used VLC to convert this AVI to H264/AAC .MP4, opened THAT in QT, and converted it to ProRes. Now its still 30 fps. Great! When I try to drag that clip into FCP, it says the file is invalid, even though QT MADE IT! Again, this clip is ProRes 422 HQ with Linear PCM audio!

Final Cut Pro :: 30 Fps AVI Motion Jpeg 680 X 480 .. That's Not NTSC
i have some client shot footage off some kinda domestic camera, maybe a still camera, they want as a DVD (PAL). According to quicktime show properties, it's a 30 fps motion jpeg in an AVI container. Size 680 x 480.. So no it's not NTSC, but what do I do about the frame rate? I just dropped it in a PAL timeline, and the result to DVD are less than stellar..

When converting NTSC to Pal I use compressor with optical flow for really important footage, or just JES deinterlacer will do for the less important footage.. (Compressor takes FOREVER doing this job) But this is not NTSC to PAl conversion, just frame rate conversion.. I'm not sure where to go.. i won't be using compressor in this instance because it will take forever/blow their budget.. Maybe i should have checked more carefully when I converted the AVI's to movs in mpeg streamclip..
