OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Removed Reinstall Drive / After Restart Not Get Setup Assistant
Apr 11, 2012
I reinstalled my OSX today. Everything was fine, but I think I erred when I removed the reinstall drive after I hit the restart button. The setup assistant was never prompted and now the screen is blank. How I can reinstall the OSX without logging in or get the setup assistant? I need to redo, and have no clue what to do.
I have a used Macbook and would like to wipe the HD and re-install Snow Leopard to give as a gift. I would like the person receiving this computer to be able to start it up like a new computer and go through the start up with the music and having to enter names and password just like a new computer.Â
Is there any way i can do it (otherwise i will just erase the drive and give the disk with the computer for him to do himself)Â
Info: powerbook 1.5GHz, Mac Mini core Duo, LaCie 250GB rugged ext. HD, Mac OS X (10.6.7), Time Capsule 1TB, AEX, iMac 27" 3.06 core 2 duo
Text Edit got delete/removed from my OS X IMAC version 10.5.8 IMac and I have the slightest clue how to reinstall it : is there anyway for me to redownload it or do I have to purchase it?
Having had major start up and software problems I decided to do a clean installation of Leopard, did backups and started the installation on my G5! Even though the OS X 10.5.1 DVD was tested prior to the installation to be in perfect condition, the installation quick somewhere down the line. After several attempts it finished and a restart was successful - everything seemed fine and I started with the software updates.
The requested restart never occurred and after 45 min of watching that little rotating ball with no action taking place inside the G5, a forced shut down stopped the process! Since then the setup assistant is all that comes up after start! Trying to start via the installation DVD (C-key during start) or safe boot or single user mode......works! I got a new OS X 10.5.1 installation DVD from a friend - no change! What I can do to at least get to the single user mode so I can clean out the fault from there?
I'm attempting to move from my Mid 2010 13" MBP to a new Retina. I have a fresh Time Machine Backup but it's been over an hour and I'm still stuck on 'Looking for other computers'. This is a brand new USB3 drive which is working perfectly on the old machine.
I just bought a new Mac Mini (Late 2014, ships with Yosemite) to replace a defunct MacBook Pro (Late 2008, last ran 10.8.5). I have a local administrative user account and some server and network data that I want to migrate from the latest Time Machine backup of the MacBook Pro to the Mini. I don't want to copy anything else to the Mini. Neither Setup Assistant nor Migration Assistant will let me deselect anything though. All the check boxes are greyed out. Clicking on them does not uncheck them. This forces me to copy everything from the Time Machine backup to the Mini. Then the Mini won't restart.  It won't even boot into safe mode. It just gets stuck in a reboot-loop until I enter recovery mode, wipe the system drive, and reinstall Yosemite.Â
Info: Mac mini (Late 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
I set up my new air and now want to transfer my info from my macbook pro and I seem to have missed the boat and want to go back and do it . the computers are in different names with diff. passwords.
I am trying to do a command line / automated installation of Lion. I would like to know how to restore InstallESD.dmg or OSInstall.mpkg to a blank partition without the Install assistant. I would also like to know how to bypass the setup assistant after reboot.
IF I only have 1 Mac with data and setting that I do not want to loose, can I use a hard drive to migrate too data and setting until my Mac is for matted and ready to be re-loaded ? Whats the closest migration benefits I could get having 1 mac?
I wish to migrate from a MacPro 2009 to a newer MacPro but keep the original monitor. Can I operate Migration Assistant with only one screen? If one screen can be used, to which computer should it be connected?
My intel iMac hard drive crashed. I had it backed up with Carbon Copy Cloner. The technician who fixed the hard drive put SL on the new hard drive. I tried to restore with CCC first but it didn't restore anything. I used Migration Assistant and it asked about duplicate user names so I gave it a new name to be safe. I now have all my apps but no files. I used MA again and decided to use the same user name this time. I ended up with 2 accounts with the same name but no files. I was hoping to end up with the same computer (e.g. same desktop, all files in the same folders as before, iPhoto, iCal, Address Book, Dashboard etc. all organized and acting the same way as before). Every looking and acting the same way with the exception of the subtle changes brought about by SL.
I recently purchaed a Macbok Pro 15" the disk has only 3 user accounts Guest and 2 personal accounts. I have a SuperDuper backup of the Macbook Pro 17" disk and would like to restore the Users folder. However, Migration Assistant complaints all the accounts exists on the new computer! There are no accounts on the new computer with the same name. I rename the accounts but Migration Assistant complains those accounts exists. Migration Assistant restored Applications, computer settings and other folder. The option to replace the account is greyed and cannot be selected and renaming is not working. Â
eveytime i log on the HP setup assistant come on! it asks me to continue, i do, it says select ur printer, and nothing comes up.....so therefore i canot go to next step. My printer works fine and i have it connected to my time machine.
I am having way too many problems with Snow Leopard... I lost communications with two printers in my office, lost emails, and just having way too many things to fix (should have waited). Can I reinstall OSX 10.5 (that came with my MBP 15)? I still have the original disks that came with the MBP.
Long story short, wanted to reinstall the OS cos it was acting up, performance-wise. SuperDrive hasn't functioned in years, so that's a no. Remote Install via PC doesn't work, this feature is limited to MacBook Airs. And finally, an external DVD drive didn't do the job, cos even after starting install - once it reboots, something in the OS tells it not to read from the external. Hours were put into these attempts!
Is there any other possible way to reinstall Snow Leopard?
I was just wondering if when I install Snow Leopard if it will remove all the Leopard applications and replace them with Snow Leopard-formatted applications, or if it will just edit the applications to work with Snow Leopard. Photo Booth is broken on my computer and I don't want to Archive and Install unless it's the absolute last resort.
Got a kernel panic. I believe it be caused by a small piece of software that powers some touch screen technology that my company works with - software I was testing with my MacBook. As with Audacity though, sadly, some apps just don't translate well over to Mac. The uninstaller won't work. Also, my drive is seeking way too much, and I've got a lot of clutter. This image on my 17" is actually a holdover from my 13" over a year ago. Kudos to Apple for the seamless transition, but I think it's time for a clean slate.
Here's my challenge. I'm not worried about the apps. I've got a tally of what I need and I can go get them again pretty easily. I'm also not worried about custom configurations - the dock was easy to tweak as was some of the settings. What I need to make sure I grab is the files that are not system files. Instead of restoring from Time Machine, I plan to reinstall the OS completely fresh, then install the latest versions of the apps, then copy back over my files. According to what I've read on Migration Assistant (and I did MRoogle it first), there is not an easy way to selectively pick and choose files that I want to migrate. Is that accurate?
It looks like I'm going to have to reinstall OS X on my laptop because it's just generally unstable. I just have a question about the upgrade disk that I bought for $30 from apple.
On Windows 7, if you purchase the upgrade disk, it even allows you to reinstall a fresh copy of windows as long as your able to present a vista disk and show that you own a copy. Is that the same for Snow leopard? Or do I have to reinstall OS X Leopard and then proceed to upgrade?
I am moving from a late 2009 MBP running s'leopard to a new imac which will also be running s'leopard.
Now, I want to copy everything from my mbp such as docs, emails, itunes, accounts...everything. Is it best I set up OSX on the new imac and then run migration or can I connect them both when I first boot up the new imac and run setup assistant to copy everything over?
After my intel iMac froze when running Snow Leopard, I was forced to restart it, and it turned out the HD was corrupted. But after erasing it and performing repair disk, everything is now ok. But since the failure it refuses to reinstall usually giving the message "an error occured when intalling Mac OS X"
For the last few, very frustrating days, I've tried everything I have read on the net: resetting PRAM, checking the HD is set as GUID, erasing and repairing the HD numeous times, performing hardware tests. Even slaughtering farm yard animals. Basically everything. And still it won't install.
I really am at my wits end, and to make matters worse, the genius bar here in Tokyo is so busy I can't get a reservation til Friday evening.
I have 2 iMac G5's both running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.Suddenly one decided that it woud not allow Photoshop 9 (CS1) to work so I tried to reinstall. It seems to reinstall but will still not save files. Tried to reinstall Photoshop CS2, and the whole CS2 suite and the discs will not load at all. I have tested the disc in the other iMac and it's fine. I have tried all the obvious repair routes - disc utility, restarting from the system CD, creating a new user, software updates, but still cannot get any of teh Adobe sofatware to reinstall properly.
I currently have snow leopard 10.6.8 and have installed all the latest software AND FIRMWARE. Would I be able to revert back to snow leopard 10.6.7? (will there be any problems with the already installed firmware designed for 10.6.8)
I need help to reinstall the software for my Lexmark Z615 printer. Due to other problems on the MacBook, I had to wipe the hard drive and start over. When I did, I could not find the CD-ROM with the software for the printer. I am still looking for it.  I then went to the Lexmark website and downloaded the "Lexmark Utility Web Installer.dmg" for the Z600 series.  I opened that file and activated the "Z600 Series Utility." That led me to a window that asked for the "printer software." I looked at the list of "printer software" offered by the utility, and none of them was for the Z615. I chose another one more or less at random and tried to print with it. Of course, the printer did not operate. I have gone into "printer setup," and here is where I am:
I am at the limit of what I know about setting up printers. Does anyone have any advice for what I should do next to get the printer to operate?Â
