OS X :: How To Make Working ICal Icon To Display Date
Jan 27, 2009
I am working with Photoshop, Icon Composer from the OS X disc, and CandyBar. What I am doing is making my own icons. I was wondering if anyone has attempted to make an icon for iCal that actually displays the date or if this is even possible.

I've redone my desktop and icons to be really simple and I was wondering if there is a way to keep the date from being displayed over the top of the iCal icon? It doesn't look right with my theme.

I am trying to get the iCal's icon to not display the date, but nothing works. Here's what I did so far: changing most of the icns files in the iCal.app/Contents/Resources. and changing the App-empty.icns in iCal.app/Contents/Resources/iCalDockTilePlugIn.docktileplugin/Contents/Resources. So the icon is changed, but the date still shows up on it. I am not using candybar.

I was wondering if anybody out there may know why this is happening to my iCal dock icon. When the app is not running, the date on the icon is displaced by like 15px, then when it is launched, the date goes back to the correct position. Check it out:

So I'm working on setting up my new icons(text ones) and I was able to get the whole icon deal working but I can't seem to get the date to stop projecting overtop of the ical icon. Is there anyway to fix this or some resource file I can delete to stop it? I've already backed up the resource files so deleting stuff is okay.

I want to change the iCal icon, I have already actually changed it (all five files) but the date that it shows will not go away. I've tried removing dozens of files and the whole iCalDockTilePlugIn folder, logged out and in, killed the dock more times than I can count and it's still there.

Today is the 19th and my ical dock icon is displaying the 18th. My dates and times are correct in my preferences and display properly every where else. When I launch ical it is also on the proper date and the dock icon will display the proper date as long as ical is open. When I close ical the dock icon displays the wrong date again.

I just noticed that my iCal doesn't anymore update it's Dock-Icon with the correct date? I remember that this has worked flawless before, so I must have changed something (maybe the 10.6.3 update)? When I start the iCal Application, the number (e.g. 9 for 9.4.2010) gets updated, but as soon I close it, it'll go back to 6 (for 6.4.2010).

I have a folder where I place an ever growing collection of my favorite songs. Before I switched to Mac, on Windows, when I wanted to revisit songs I most recently added to the folder, I would sort the songs by the Date Modified and it would order the files I placed in the folder by date.
In OSX, however, there must be a slightly different meaning to "Date Modified," as it does not quite sort my songs by the order they were added. It gets some of it right, but there's plenty of files that are out of order--tune "x", which I know was placed in the folder a week ago is actually listed further down the list with songs placed in the folder months ago.
Is there a way to have OSX sort files in order of the date it was placed in a folder? Neither "Date Modified" nor "Date Created" works 100% as I thought it would. Or is the OSX definition of Date Modified/Created slightly different than Windows?

My date and time resets each time my mac sleeps or is reset or if I open date and time options. It keeps sending emails of my old reminders from 2008/2009 from ical and my to-do list emails me its reminders. This happens every time I open my comp or even just open date and time options. I also get the ical reminder notification that pops up freezes on my screen. Not sure how this happened, but can anyone help?

Last night I left my charger at a friend's house, so it ended up dying completely. When I turned it on again, it alerted me that my date was set to something prior to 2008, (Actually December 2000) and that this could cause problems. Also, it no longer remembered my wifi password (which I have had saved for a little over a year now, with no problems.)I also noticed that my hard drive icon was missing!
I restarted the computer, hoping that would fix my problem. When it didn't, I checked for an update and got everything updated. The date is now correct, but my hard drive icon is still missing. I did at some point back up my computer onto a portable hard drive via time machine, but it has been a few months, and I don't know if I would lose any data that I have used or obtained until this point?

My iCal icon is invisible within the dock. It appears the normal icon when I open iCal but when I quit it, it goes back to being invisible. I have taken it out of the dock, putting it back in the dock, and the issue is still there. This happened a few days ago, and a restart fixed the problem, but it came back today. It seems its only ical.

I renamed iCal cuz I was bored. Then I changed it back to iCal. Then I dragged it onto the dock. While the application wasn't running, for some reason, it looked like this. It obviously does that because the date changes, but the calendar pic doesn't. When the application is running, it looks like normal. And when I quit it, it goes back to the weird looking icon.

When iCal is closed (meaning I've quit the app), the date on the iCal dock icon is "Feb 21". When I open iCal, it changes to Feb 23. When I quit again, it goes back to Feb 21. I'm pretty sure that iCal is supposed to show the correct date regardless of whether it's opened or not. Can anyone confirm this for me? Isn't the stock icon date for iCal 'July 17'?

I did some googling and mroogling on this subject and I can't find anything relating to how it is currently. What I want to do is take my iCal icon and make it blue. Because of how the rest of my dock looks I think it would fit a little better. What is the modern method for doing this, and does anyone have a better quality blue iCal image than the one I found on google which was 64x64 and lost all the detail.

Question: I'm trying to make a Kobhens-style iCal icon set to replace the existing, default iCal icon(s). I know where all the icons/blank icons are, but can't seem to to find where the actual month & date are stored - or even if it's possible to modify these. Are they changeable? Where are they located in the file system?

I'm currently using a fancy app for my alarm clock which makes iTunes start playing whatever playlist I want. But what I'm really after is the ability to have iCal do this so I can setup my alarm clock in there with repeated events, would make life a lot easier. Is there any way this can be done? Preferably in a way whereby when I sync with my iPod then it will make that start playing also (for when it's in an iPod Hi-Fi which it is whenever my laptop isn't left on overnight).

I have three main apple products I need to sync.
Macbook Pro
iPhone
Mac Tower (Pre Intel) running os 10.5.8
The macbook pro and the phone seem to be all hooked up nicely through icloud now, so no problems there. However I run an old tower which I would love to keep in sync with everything else. The email still works though icloud, it appears. iCal and Address Book do not seem to sync up anymore, and I can't find a resolution anywhere.

I use change my icons, at least the dock ones to make them look uniform. I usually manually change them, (copy, ctrl+i, paste) but for ical I had a problem. I did the normal routine and it did work. It changed the icon to what I wanted, until I opened the program. Then it changed it back to the default icon. So I used Candybar to do the samething, and the same thing happened. I did this for about 20 icons or so, and they all changed, except for ical. Well it did change initally but when I opened it, it reverted.
