View 3 RepliesPreviously the solution was to install Safari plugins Inquisitor or Glims but Apple have removed the interfaces from Safari 4 that these plugins used - and there is still no built in Safari Preference to set the locale of the Google search. Effectively this renders the Safari Google Search field pretty well useless - at least for UK users. If you're searching for UK-based businesses or individuals, for example, the thousands of USA results that come up first are just not relevant - (that's an example of British Understatement. by the way

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been in and out of these forums since last December. I bought my first MacBook and I couldn't be happier. Best computer ever! I am never going back to PC, and I'm trying to convert the rest of my family. I am starting with the most difficult hill to climb first, my father. He just barely learned how to download music and burn CDs this year. My mom just needs to send emails and pay bills online. So for fathers day, I bought my dad a used show white iMac G3. I can't believe how fast it is. He thought it came from space, but was excited. He's not tech savvy in any way, but he is trying and is slowly learning. I'm trying to get it as close to what he's use to, and there is the problem. He knows what FireFox looks and feels like, but I cannot install it. I download the program, "install" it, but I can't load it up. I click on the icon and it bounces up and down in the dock and then fades away. Its like the feeling you get when your car is about to start and dies down. I have no idea what to do. I'm only 7+ months into Mac's, so I could be missing something simple...maybe? I've check the permissions on firefox and allowed everyone to read/write but nothing I can think of anything else. Also, I've been searching and searching for this one, but I have no idea how to word it and I'm coming up nothing. Since I can't run firefox, I'm teaching the old man to use safari. He could eventually learn it, but even I prefer firefox. That's another story for another time. Any ways, the problem with Safari on his G3, even after every possible update (I think), every layout on every page is totally off. When I click on Safari and the apple home page comes up, some icons are cut in half, the bottom bar with the list of links is towards the middle, and side bars are just messed up. Pages like craigslist come up with a harsh fully aligned left layout. Other pages have words stacked on other words so its impossible to make out whats going on. My mom was going crazy because she couldn't figure out how to log out of her bank account (kinda funny). I've tried Displays on the iMac, I've tried View on Safari, messing with text size, ect, nothing has helped me. I don't know what to do here either.

For some reason when I scroll up and down or move the mouse over a word, the font gets light and pixel-y. Can anyone tell me what to do to fix this? It doesn't happen in older versions of Safari or in Firefox.

I was working on my computer and needed to reboot. When my Safari came back up the arrangement on the screen was completely different. The overall layout was different and I lost a few of my bookmarks in the process. Is there anyway to get it back to my old screen layout?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter three easy erase, install, time machine backups everything is working great. I am amazing at how quick and easy it was to do this for my family's computers.
The only trouble I am having is getting google search results in Safari to open in another tab, instead of the same window, or a new window. Anyone else see this, or have a way to make this work? I like to click on a google link, and have it open in a new tab.
I installed Safari 5 a few days ago (the standalone update before 10.6.4 was released), and I noticed in Safari 5, the Google logo hasn't changed (it did last month). I don't get the new left sidebar either in the search results. I installed Safari 5 today on another Mac, and this is working. I already reinstalled Safari to no avail. So how can I get this to work? Below, on the left, is what I see in Firefox. On the right is what I see in Safari.

One of the things I like about using Firefox is the ability to select a word and search for it in Google. In Firefox this opens a new tab but with Safari it uses the current tab which messes with the flow of my work. Are their any tweaks to making Safari open a new tab when using the search in google feature or am I stuck with using Firefox until Apple addresses this?

WHat I need to find out is there a way of setting up the search for UK searches.
For instance if I actually use google.co.uk you get the option of - pages from the UK.
But instead of going to to the google.co.uk page all the time is there a way in Safari so that the Google search engine will only show - pages from the UK
The Google in my Safari is set to the US version which is really starting to annoy me as I keep ending up on the US eBay site and so on, which is annoying because I live in the UK
Does anybody know of a way that you can change this?
all of a sudden I can not get onto google. I have tried it in both firefox and safari and cleared all the data. I also have restarted. Each time I try to go to it it comes up a page saying connection interrupted. Do you think something is stopping it from going there?

It used to be when I highlighted a word and right clicked the word, I could do a google search on it.
Now when I press google search it downloads something vs going to google on the browser.
What am I doing wrong? I can't seem to find anything in safari to change that.
I noticed this after upgrading to SL and is safari 4.0.4

I'm unable to remove the results pane to the left - This started happening a few days ago.... Weird thing is, the pane doesn't show up in Firefox when searching via Google, and it doesn't show up when using Safari on my brothers iMac.
just noticed Safari 5 is out, updates better then google chrome? or is google chrome still overall a better browser?

I recently bought a 13" MacBook Pro and I've been using Safari as my default browser. Before I got my Macbook and used a Windows 7 laptop, Google Chrome was my default browser. I still wanna use it as my default browser but not sure if it's as good for the Macbook as it is for Windows. I know both are fast browsers but which is the best one for the Macbook? Should I stick with Safari or should I switch to Google Chrome?

Suddenly the toolbar at the top that shows the website and a spot to search google is gone. The only way I can access it is to go to Edit>Find>Google Search. Once I've searched the toolbar disappears again and then there is no "back" button, so if I need to search again I have to go back to Edit>Find>Google Search. UGH!

In a Google text doc, there is a problem with line spacing such that all the lines in the doc are stacked up on the first line making it unreadable and unusable. I've had this problem with the last few releases of Safari but the problem has just become worse.
If I click anywhere in the body of the doc I get: Google Docs error
This error has been reported to Google and we'll look into it as soon as possible.
Please try one of these interim solutions:Reload this page.Download the document by right-clicking on it in the main document list and selecting "Export." I'm running Safari in 64-bit so that's not the problem and switching back to 32-bit doesn't fix it.
I can view the original format of the doc with proper line spacing by selecing File > See original, but can't edit the doc at all.

I have only recently switched to Mac and was looking for a browser that had a few more options to suit my needs than safari (tried pimp my safari) and so downloaded FireFox and I love the customize google app or plug in. It's brilliant. But as FireFox doesn't use keychain (what are the disadvantages of this) I was wondering if anyone knew of an app or plug in that can customize google for safari in the same way? How I can add buttons to the toolbar. The supplied toolbar is pretty limiting. How I can improve my safari so that I can keep everything integrated or will I have to stick with FireFox?
