Does anyone know the e-mail address at Apple to which I could send a rather paranoid and panicked question about Time Machine?I had to restore from a Time Machine backup this morning, and the backup had saved everything except my iPhoto library, so years of photographs (including my impossible-to-duplicate trip to Ireland) are gone.
View 12 RepliesI have 3 drives used. Bay 1 is for OS/Apps, Bay 2 for VM's (Fusion), Bay 3 is just for data (music, photos, movies, iwork docs...) Lets say I have a big enough Time Machine Drive to back up everything all drives. One day The drive in Bay 1 dies, which holds the OS/Apps. I replace with a new drive, and select from Restore from Time Machine. Is Time machine smart enough to just restore all data from HD Bay 1? Nothing happened to the other drives.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI do not know if this has been posted before or not...But I found [as have others] that it is a GOOD idea to exclude all of the Parallels .HDD files from a Time Machine Backup. Parallels stores the entire Windows "hard drive" as a single file under OSX, and while this is transparent to the end-user, any time any "windows" file is updated [ie. everytime you do something under Windows], that ENTIRE file is marked as updated.
View 7 Replies View RelatedTime Machine no longer works for me. Apparently the volume of stuff it wants to back up is too large for the partition devoted to it (on an external hard drive). But I can't choose the exclude anything because the Options button in Time Machine Prefs is greyed out. I've deleted the TimeMachine .plist file, and restarted, but no go. And I haven't found anything to help either here or on the larger web

I just got a message that my Time Machine external backup disk is full. I have another external drive I can use, but buying drives every few months is going to get expensive.
I was wondering what others are doing in this situation.
Is anybody archiving the Time Machine backup? If so, what software are you using and where are you storing your backup?

I've just bought the new Airport Extreme Base Station last night. I set up everything just fine. I've set up an external HD to the USB port and got it to work fine so far in terms of file sharing and reading and writing. I also have a dedicated Time Machine external HD attached to my MBP USB drive.Does Time Machine backup shared airport drives? This is a deal breaker for me. When I go into time machine after my latest backup, the shared airport drive doesn't show up .Am I missing something? Can time machine back up anything connected to the AEBS?

long time Mac user (original 128 Mac!). Somehow, not sure what I did, the sent folder in my POP email got checked to delete after one day. My sent folder has emails dating back to 2004. So, when I got up this morning, I opened mail, looked for a previously sent email and realized that only the ones sent yesterday existed. I need to restore. Fortunately, I have a time machine backup. However, when I go to Time Machine, find the correct SENT folder and try to restore, it tells me I do not have access to the file. I am not panicking ..yet.Â

Is it true that TimeMachine doesn't backup email? A recent thing by Rush Limbaugh says that it doens't. I don't know if Rush knows Macs, but then on the lastest MacBreak Weekly, the Mac pundits talked about this issue as if everyone knows about this weakness.
So what's the scoop on TimeMachine and email?
From about three weeks ago, on only my most heavily used email account (it has around 75,000 emails in it and gets around 200 emails each day), I was only able to download 4 emails at a time. Then it would stop. I would click "Get Mail" and it would download the next 4 emails. I'd click "Get Mail" etc etc until all emails were downloaded.
I tried to find a solution, but couldn't, so I just put up with it (it was really only a pain in the butt first thing in the morning).
Then, this morning - disaster! My main account only downloads one email at a time! It shows "55 of 55 Incoming messages", then next time "55 of 55 incoming messages" etc. A new one must have arrived because now it is showing "56 out of 56" (but I still have 6 hours of emails to download).
Important info:
* Email is hosted by gmail.
* Account is setup as a POP account.
* This issue is not affecting other staff on a mac, using same domain for email. Nor is it affecting any other email accounts I have (about 16 active email accounts, including 2 others hosted by gmail).
* Mail version is 4.3
* OS is 10.6.4
* Hard drive has 83GB available
* Last week I installed an extra 2GB of ram - so it wont be a lack of ram.
* No other email accounts are affected.
* There are 20 unread emails sitting in my Gmail account waiting to be downloaded (I logged in to Google Webmail and saw them).
* I have checked the Activity Monitor for Mail and that account seems to act absolutely perfectly (if it only had 1 email to download). In other words, there is nothing in the Activity Monitor that suggests a problem.
I forwarded an email and now it is coming in via my time machine in 100's I never asked time maching to recover it and don't know how to stop it

It's an IMAP account, and someone accessed the email from an iPad - almost the entire inbox was emptied.Â
I have TM running and I have restored the INBOX.mbox file to the finder just in case. And here are the steps I have followed:Â Tried to restore all the emails into the inbox in question through TimeMachine in Mail.Tried to restore the entire INBOX through TimeMachine in Mail.Tried to restore email via importing the recovered folder.Tried to do a test import of 1 email through TimeMachine in Mail.Â
All failed.Â
The sent items are still OK and present, and the account is in active use, so if I could just restore the inbox emails that would be the best.Â
I understand that when they are restored they will need to upload to the server and populate there, but 2 hours should definitely be enough and there is no visible activity in my mail to indicate that is happening.Â

I have a problem with my inbox, seems its corrupted in some way. I can see the headers, but no contents, cant delete or move message. All other folders seem OK. Its from a POP3 mailbox where the originals are deleted off the server when downloaded so I'd prefer to try and recover it but I can live with losing the contents if necessary. Any ideas? Is there a tool or way to repair? I have Time Machine but I doubt the TM backup will have caught these files between them being downloaded (they came in one batch) and being corrupted as it was only a few minutes. Not sure how I could tell if TM did catch them either.
Update; Impressive, TM did recover them, now I just need to work out how to empty the inbox of the corrupt messages. Worst case I can create a new email account but I'd rather not as configuring it was troublesome.
Second Update; Mailbox > rebuild, then move the messages from the TM mail recovered folder back to inbox.
I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on a MacBook Air. I have email messages saved to Mailboxes in Mail on my hard drive, and these messages are also backed up in Time Machine. How do I delete certain of these backed-up messages? If the files were accessible in the Finder, I know how to use the action menu (gear icon) to delete all backups of the chosen file. But I don't see any way to delete the email messages in Mail on T.M.

I am running Time Machine under Mavericks. When I looked at my Time Machine Backup files, I could not find the mail boxes in the appropriate Application support folder. It should be under Library/Application Support/Postbox/Profiles.I am also running Carbonite and have my POP mail accts getting backed up. I should have my email set up as a IMAP. I tried to go that route and after three weeks of dealing with my provider (and level 3 support) they informed me they could set it up for me for another $50. Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have never set up Time Machine on my Macbook Pro.I have several Mailbox's or Folders inside my email system or Mac Mail.I wanted to clear some of the less used folders out and so I exported them to another folder on my desktop.Then I deleted the folders or Mailbox's from inside the Email system or Mac Mail.When I went to the folder on the desktop to see the exported emails, there was nothing you could read, it was all jibberish or crazy characters. I was trying to set up my Time Machine to an external hard drive. I didn't continue because it asked to "initialize" the hard drive which I had a lot of important things on.
I have another external hard drive I'd like to use but, my Time Machine has this error code of -43. What is this and how can I use my Time Machine on another external hard drive?
can't open the program time machine located in the folder /applications/time machine anymore, message says program ain't working for unknown reaason, but I still can open time machine in the menu bar. any clues what the trouble might be? and/or is there any way to reinstall time machine only on os x 10.7.3?Â

I keep getting a sending error report when trying to email direct from iPhoto 11.
As I understand it, iPhoto pulls all address details direct from Mail so why would it falter.

(Mine and the wife's)- When I attach Ms-Office documents to an email from my account on either machine, PC users can open them fine.- When my wife attaches MS-Office documents on either machine, PC users cannot open them.- We are both in school and often upload documents to our school's website. The same behavior is noticed.

However when I go to Google's IP, http://64.233.187.99/ the page loads right up. Every other website loads fine except www.google.com. Before I had the inbox in the top half of the screen and the message body in the bottom half. Now I am just seeing a full screen with the inbox and I have to double click on the message to see the body. I've looked through the toolbar and can't find an option that addresses it.

Of course now when I start up time machine the backup isn't there. How do I get Time Machine to recognize the backup? I have it on two places - a time capsule and a separate external HD.
