OS X :: Dual Boot Mac Leopard With Yellow Dog Linux

Nov 13, 2009

You might have seen a previous thread I've made called "Dual Book Mac Leopard with 0S 9" on my PowerBook G4 12". This proved to be impossible as the parts weren't old enough to support OS 9. Now I have a new idea, put Yellow Dog Linux on it and see if it has classic environment. Is this possible. Can YDL run OS 9 apps?

OS X :: Dual Boot Options For Booting Linux On MacBook

Mar 13, 2009

I was just wondering what the dual boot options are for booting linux on a MacBook, does it go through Bootcamp or are there other options? Obviously I would prefer a native installation over a virtual machine.

OS X :: Snow Leopard And Lion As Dual Boot?

Oct 30, 2010

I have two Macs that run Snow Leopard. Lion looks to be quite different and offer great new features, particularly the app store. So, can a Mac become dual boot like a Linux can? I mean, may I co-install Lion side by side with Snow leopard rather than overwrite it? I have successfully done this operation on a Linux Ubuntu netbook with two different versions of Ubuntu, and a Windows 7/Ubuntu netbook. But I've never tried this on a Mac. Does a Mac OSX install allow options for how the user will install the new OS?

OS X :: Dual Boot (Leopard) Same Operating System?

Jan 27, 2009

I have Leopard installed on my main drive (MacPro). I was wondering if I could install Leopard again, but on another one of my internal drives for experimental purposes? Would I be able to choose which install to boot from? To clarify, I don't want to create another user account, I want to dual boot the same OS.

OS X :: IMac - Possible To Dual Boot Tiger And Snow Leopard?

Dec 3, 2009

I just ordered a new iMac and I'll be upgrading from a 1GHz TiBook with Tiger on it. I have some important music software that I'm not 100% sure will work with Snow Leopard, but my understanding is that it's already ok for Universal Binary. So I had the thought that maybe I could put Tiger on the iMac and dual boot. I've never dealt with a dual-boot system before, other than a couple times when I played around with Classic Mode when I still had Jaguar and/or Panther.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Upgrade / Windows Dual Boot?

Jan 14, 2010

I have an Intel Macbook with 10.4.11 running, and I wanted to upgrade to Snow Leopard. I've heard that the $29 upgrade disc will work with 10.4, and I have a couple questions.
1. I lost the original 10.4 install disc that came with my computer - would that be a problem?
2. I'm in a college CS program, and I'd like to be able to dual boot Windows onto the laptop. I think in order to do that, I have to do a clean install of OS X after installing Windows - can I do that with the upgrade disc?

OS X :: G5 Dual Boot Tiger / Leopard (Files Access)

Apr 29, 2010

I have a G5 with a Tiger startup disk. I installed the HD from my retired MBP (with Leopard) into my G5 as a second hard drive. When I boot from Tiger, I can access the files on my Leopard disk, but not vice versa. I called Apple and they said it's most likely because the Leopard disk has a Laptop configuration, therefor it wouldn't look for another hard drive connected via sata. So my question is, how can I go about getting Leopard to look for another hard drive via sata? Is there an available driver?

Software :: Tiger / Leopard Dual Boot On IMac G5

May 18, 2008

Since I do development, I want to keep my iMac G5 at 10.4.11 (Tiger) while having 10.5.2 (Leopard) on an external drive for booting and customer support (in the meantime anyways - at some point, I may move the internal to Leopard and keep a version of Tiger on the external drive for customer support).Sounds none too difficult to achieve this. Attach external drive, insert installation CD, and follow instructions.

One thing that alludes me is the best way to make the applications available on the external Leopard boot. Can I just run them from the internal drive or will they need to be copied/installed on the external as well? Any really clear and useful resources on this type of thing?

PowerPC :: Boot From Linux Disc On G5

Dec 5, 2008

#I recently acquired a 1.6 GHz G5 PPC, and I'd like to install Linux on it. I had to put in a new hard drive, so I put in a Seagate, 7200 RPM, 3.0 gb/s, 250 GB (just came yesterday). I'm not having any luck getting it to boot from a Linux disc though; my friend gave me a version of Feisty Fawn, no luck. I tried burning a copy of ubuntu, version 7.10 for PPC, from Apple's native utility but that didn't work either. I know that the super drive is reading, though, because if I put in my Macbook Pro copy of OS X it gives me angry messages. When I press the option button on restart, I get a blue screen with two buttons; a return button and a forward arrow button. Also, what's the right way to burn Ubuntu to a disc; I tried using FireStarter FX but it kept on telling me that burning could not be completed.

IMac :: Won't Boot Linux From External USB Hard Drive

Nov 14, 2010

I have an Intel iMac with with Snow Leopard and Windows 7 on separate partitions. Recently I have acquired an external USB hard drive. I formatted it with Ext4, and installed Linux Mint to it.

The installation went smoothly, but I can't seem to boot from the USB drive anymore. Holding down Option on start-up only gives me two choices: Mac OS X and Windows. The drive isn't recognized in either operating systems anymore: on Snow Leopard I get "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" and on Windows, it doesn't even show up in My Computer.

MacBook Pro :: 15" No Longer Recognizes Primary Display After Boot Camp/Linux Installation?

Mar 9, 2012

So my old 15" early 2006 Macbook Pro (1,1) no loger recognizes the primary display. I can use an external monitor just fine, but when I go into System Profiler, it's like my primary display disappeared. I reinstalled Snow Leopard, reset PRAM, NVRAM, repaired my permissions, tried to update my mac, but litterally nothing I have tried has worked.

It started when I tried to install both Windows 7 and Ubuntu. After completing the Windows 7 installation, I restarted my computer and it just hung on the Apple logo. I could feel the fans begining to spin really fast and it felt like my laptop was on fire. I restarted my computer, let it cool down, and it hung at the Apple logo again. I rebooted it a final time, and nothing. Black screen. No backlight or image...nothing.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Disable Yellow Highlight During Search Process

Jun 21, 2012

This is not a question about the highlight color that you set in system preferences. When you search for text, the found text jumps out at you in blaring yellow, all too literally in your face. This was useful when they first introduced it in Safari-- but now it's all over the OS. In a text editor, where the search result might be a whole paragraph, it's agonizing. It's getting to where I have to look away from the screen when I hit Search, and wait a moment for the color to die down. Isn't there any way to disable it? It hurts my eyes.I found a thread from pretty exactly two years ago asking the same question:[url]

OS X :: Need Two Mac Partitions - Dual Boot

Mar 26, 2009

I have a MacBook with OS X 10.5.5 on it. I'm allowed to use my personal laptop at work, but they have said I must have dual-boot and only use the one partition while I'm at work, to access the programs I need to while at work. Everything must be completely separate (my personal stuff, and work stuff). Their software is both in mac and pc versions. Instead of using bootcamp and having a dual-boot option for Windows I'd like to instead have two OS X partitions to boot to, one for personal use, one for work. I tried using bootcamp and then loading my OS X DVD into the drive to create a second partition, and it won't work. It seems Bootcamp is made to work when only creating a second partition with Windows. Well, then I went to the mac store and spoke to a Genius and well they said it's something I need to make an appointment for and come in to do, because it's fairly complex.
