I have an imac and use a linksys router to connect to the internet but any time i try to connect the ethernet cable to the imac from the modem i don't get any connection at all. Is there ne way to make this work?
when I get a picture in Ichat and i go to save it, it auto saves into a weird folder with a name like:
26a786fb-a3cd-4b64-8894-4ed1c716e03c
it's a different name each time i save a new pic, however, none of these folders are available in finder, and there's no directory information. Where are these hidden folders hanging out on my mac? How do I get my old pics?
I have an ethernet cable. i have an alu macbook. i have an iMac. i need to transfer files between the two. tried connecting the ethernet cables. on the macbook it says "ethernet cable not plugged in"
on the iMac it says "ethernet cable not plugged in".
i know the ethernet cable works because i brought my macbook up to my router and used the ethernet cable to connect to the internet. it is Cat5 or whatever. i've tried everything static IP addresses. restarting. replugging. over and over and over. no luck. the macs just pretend there is no ethernet cable plugged in. tried DHCP. tried manually. but it works when i connect my macbook to my modem.
i've tried everything. i've googled, i've mroogled. nothing works. i spend two hours trying to work this out myself before coming here. every single webpage online just says "oh just turn on file sharing LOL then it works" not for me it doesn't. i've tried that. i've tried it over and over and over again. it doesn't work for me. still won't recognize.
i'd use wireless connection to transfer but that'd take like 20+ hours to send 60GB+ of data. too long (iMac is not at my house) are ethernet cables just fail? this is a BRAND NEW 20 inch imac and a aluminum macbook from 2008.
I created an access point from a router. My question is if I can get a faster connection to devices near to the access point with the direct connection or will a direct connection not work with an access point?
I have recently had to stop using my wireless router and connect directly from my modem to the WAN port on my computer. However, I can only achieve an internet connection when I direct connect into my PowerBook G4. When I try to connect into my iMac, I get nothing.
I was using a Western Digital 1T hard drive connected to my Time Capsule USB port. It was set up as Allow file sharing with Time Capsule password. I would like to stop using it here and directly connect it to my Macbook Pro (by firewire). When I try to do this, I can see the drive but get a message that I do not have user permissions to access it. I can't seem to figure out a way around this. Is there something that I can change so that I can directly access the disk? Do I need to reformat the WD drive in Disk Utility to be able to use it directly again?
My main work station (MacPro) doesn't go online anymore. The connection to router/modem is fine (I can access the router via browser interface, and my iphone as well as my old PowerBook go online without any problem through that same router and modem). First, internet connection was absent after wakeup from sleep mode. After putting the machine back to sleep and waking it thereafter, connection was re-established. Not anymore now.
All of this being the case whether connected via Ethernet or WLAN, as well as after restart.

I wont to share may internet connection from may mac to may iPad and I'm using a USP modem from the carrier, I'v tried all the methods that appears down in the picture but no good result.
I have just started using a G3 B/W Yosemite tower to replace my totally satisfactory Mini Tower on 9.2.2 - forced by IE not working any more.
I had to buy it a MODEM, a genuine Apple internal MODEM in a aluminium box with ribbon cable. I have installed it and it seems to know its there and makes dialling noises - but doesn't actually grab the line first . I need it to dial the phone and for Internet backup, I have broadband Internet connection via an ethernet LAN and router.
I tried using a Teleadapt RJ11 adapter which swops inner pair to outer pair, no luck. I have checked the line with a phone to be sure there is a dial tone, and left the phone off hook while activating the MODEM to check if anything happens, it just runs a continuous dial tone, but the computer is not finding a dial tone. Is there something I don't know to do? Is the RJ11 connection deviant? Or did I get sold a duff MODEM?
For some unknown reason i cant seem to connect to wirelessly to my adsl2 modem. I have tried 2 different modems same result - i can see them but when i connect it immediately says "conection failed" - i can connect successfully via ethernet but not wirelessly. I have a 2009 macbook pro running 10.6 snow leopard.
Is there any sort of "bridge" software that allows a terminal emulation program, say, Z-Term, to use Skype as a modem? It seems silly to pay for connections to BBS's when I've got SkypeOut, but I haven't been able to find a way to do this.
whenever i try to download something, it'll go onto the successful download page, but won't actually pop up saying 'run/save/ or whatever. i use Safari, only way i can download things is to alt+click direct links
So I was wondering if there was a place where I could purchase and then directly download mac games, specifically Civilization IV. The only place I know of to purchase these games is the apple store, which is about 40 minutes away from me and I really don't feel like driving out there.
I'm running 10.6, and I would like to make my computer such that a friend (not on my local network) can directly download a large file from my computer. I would like to set this up in such a way that my friend will only be able to access a single directory (the Shared folder, for instance). Essentially, I want her to be able to download a file from my computer without giving her access to anything else, and without having to give out any sensitive information. I attempted to search, but as I'm not facile with the terminology, I didn't find an answer.
My friend showed me an really awesome program on Windows (sadly I have to work with Windows at work, MotionBuilder is not out for Mac, bloody Autodesk) It's called: Direct Folders [url] It makes you when you for example middle click, it looks similar to then you right click, but there you get shortcuts to folders you added, really neat/ I wounder if it exist something similar for Mac?
Direct TV On Demand requires an access point for streaming video. The simplest fix is an ethernet cable between my DSL modem and the DVR. This is not practical, as the DSL modem has only one ethernet port, and it is going into my Airport Express. (and it is several rooms away) Direct TV recommends a Cisco WET610n ethernet bridge. My problem is that the Cisco techs say there appears to be compatibility problems between the two. The Apple tech said flat out that the WET610n cannot connect downstream from the Airport Express. He said he did not know if the WET610n could connect to the Airport Extreme, which does have extra ethernet ports. I can return the WET610n. I MAY be able to return the Airport Express and upgrade to the Airport Extreme. Does any know for sure wether or not the WET610n will operate wirelessly with the Airport Extreme, which boasts true 5 ghz 802.11n capability? Does anyone have a known solution? Direct TV has given me some Geek telephone numbers, but I haven't contacted them yet.
I've installed win 7 twice now, and I'm finding that when I first get it going everything works as I would expect it to. However when I load back into it my direct x 9 drivers don't seem to work. I'm not sure how to fix this. By the way have tried downloading drivers again but it doesn't work.
I've been making a website on web. I have uploaded it using cyber duck as my ftp client, and hit a problem! The website does not load under the address it should do: [URL]. But instead it will only load on: [URL]. I have spoken to my hosting company and apparently it is an issue with the html script and I should insert a HTML code redirection script.
i am using dreamweaver 8 and am making a website. On the website i have a page where people can view/download pdf directions. I have it set up so you can view the PDF directions in the browser but i want to add another button where they can directly download the PDF straight off of the site without having to right click anything or open anything.. To make it short i want to be able for the user to click text that says "Click Here" and for a PDF to automatically download to their computer.
this issue is driving me crazy for the las few month i love using google chrome on my mac , but every time i need to download a file i click on it but the chrome wont open/download it , i have to switch every time to my safari and copy the link there in order to download the file .
I have a 3,1 Mac Pro running 10.6.8. I want to watch and listen to a video file that has it's audio sent to the Line Out where I have powered, desktop speakers. At the same time I would like to hear either Pandora or iTunes being played through the USB DAC I have connected to my home stereo system.
So does anyone have some good pros & cons for purchasing the new iMac at Club Mac instead of Apple Direct? Most importantly, are there buyers out there who have had a good experience with a Club Mac purchase?
