I like the Top Site tiles but wish to eliminate selected ones permanently. I never use Craig's List, Expedia, Facebook, etc yet they always appear in the primary Top Sites frame displacing other sites I wish to access. How do I get rid of those unwanted sites? I have OS-Leopard and plan upgrade to SL in a few months.

I switch ports around a bit when I update podcasts on the iPod. The front USB port on the PowerMac would never do an iPod update. I plugged the mouse into the keyboard port and it stated "summary" using too much power and will deactivate port. At this time it doens't work. To no avail I have searched for a method to activate the port. That makes one port on monitor and one on keyboard that do not work. Does anyone have an idea how to make a USB port work?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had an old PC a few years back on which had iTunes activated. The machine essentially died and I got rid of it before I was able to log on and deactivate iTunes on that machine. Having moved on since then, that activation has lingered and now I need to deactivate it.
I know that there are ways to deactivate all machines, then simply re-activate it on my active ones, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way - on either iTunes 8 or 9 - to simply deactivate a machine remotely (i.e. deactivate a machine other than the machine I am on).
I recently got my own version of windows 7 from my school for free and decided to give parallels a shot. A little after installing parallels and giving my windows key, I decided I would rather do boot camp and "upgrade" the partition to run in parallels if i needed to. I started the boot camp installation but when it got to asking me for the Windows 7 key, it said the key was invalid now. Is there any way of getting the key back?

But lately after i haven't scanned for a while over the summer i tried scanning again and it always says NO SCANNER selected in the open scanner box from the print & fax panel from the system preferences. It prints fine but whenever i open scanner dialog box it says NO scanner selected? Why is it not recognizing the scanner part of the printer anymore?I tried uninstalling and installing the printer again didn't work

View 24 Replies View RelatedAs a newbie to the Mac but with Windows experience since 1990, I am finding the most subtle things the hardest to get used to. This post is about dragging items.
1. The first thing I am still getting used to in dragging a single item: in Windows a highlighted item can be immediately "clicked and
dragged." In OS X, it appears that very often you cannot drag an item unless you pause for a fraction of a second while on the item. However, the "fraction" seems to vary, sometimes being very short, and otherwise being longer. The result is I have to frequently try several times to get the object to drag.
2. Even worse, when multiple items are selected, it seems that sometimes they cannot be dragged no matter how long I pause. The action of attempting to drag simply un-highlights the items.
While I am typing this comment, I am trying to drag items in Mail. I have multiple items selected, and most of the time, anything I do to try to drag them fails, but simply reverses the selection on some items. On a rare occasion, the drag function works. It seems sometimes if I start the drag slowly, it works. I am still assuming that this failure is due to my lack of skills. But my instinct is to consider this a bug. What is the correct way to drag multiply selected items reliably?
I'm getting the new MBP to replace my Black Macbook. This is backed up on an external HD through time machine, but when i get my new mac i want to be able to transfer only my music and photos and videos to the new machine. How can i do this? The guy at the apple store said a combination of Ethernet cable and a program called 'SuperDuper' will sort this out? Can anyone attest to this, or does anyone have a better method?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI am using Logitech Z-5500s with my MP. Under the sound settings with digital optical selected, it says: "The selected device has no output controls." And at the top of the screen where it shows the volume, it is grayed out. And when I hit the volume up/down/mute button on my keyboard, it has a circle with a line through it. If I play a song on iTunes, sound comes out and I can control the volume through the Logitech controller like normal. But even when something is playing, it still won't let me adjust the volume through the computer.

Just purchased Yellow Submarine (HD), the new one just released. On a Mac Pro with Apple 30" Cinema Display. Get error message "The selected movie won't play on your Display", This movie can only be played on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)." How the heck am I able to purchase a movie via iTunes on a Mac that a Mac won't play? There's no warnings or anything about it in the iTunes store or anything.

Process is "make new folder, select all the items I want to go in it, drag them to it, name folder, move folder to where I want". What I want it to be able to do is select all those items and have a contextual menu command "Make New folder from selected". Ideally, popping up an Open/Save dialog letting me choose where to put the new folder and allowing me to name it. On closing dialog, I have my new renamed folder with all my selected stuff in it, wherever I want on my HD with no extra dragging and clicking. Does this sound worthwhile to anyone else? Am I missing some way that this can be done? Seemed like an obvious thing to me, was kind of puzzled to discover (AFAIK) no way to do it.

Years ago there was a method of disabling the auto-mount feature of certain volumes, but I haven't the vaguest idea of how to do it now -- if in fact it can be done.
I've ordered Snow Leopard, but am still using 10.5.8 on a Mac Pro.
For starters, I have 15000 songs on my itunes. I upgraded to itunes 10 in an effort to resolve my problem, but that did nothing. I also deleted all my playlist I had. My itunes is shuffling my music, and I do not have that option selected. It is also choosing from 3 artist from the many I have and it keeps playing the same artist and songs over and over again. Have any of you had this problem or do you have any ideas on how I might fix it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got my first Mac on friday, I'm loving finding out how to do everything, but one thing has become extremely frustrating. I can't send my email! I have no trouble receiving it, and I've read everything I can get my hands on and all my settings seem to be correct. I've tried port 25, port 587, tried using smtp.mac, mail.mac, (my ISP) tried with SSL and without, everything I could change I've changed. My username and password and all account information must be correct since I'm able to receive mail, it's just the sending that's the problem. I'm using a dot mac email account if that makes any difference.
One thing that concerns me is that under mail preferences, accounts, and account information, next to "outgoing mail server (SMTP)" it says "(offline)" next to the selected server. Here is the exact message I'm getting, and no matter how I change it the message stays the same. "Cannot send message using the server (null). This message could not be delivered because your SMTP settings are not set. please use the account preferences panel to set the SMTP options for your account. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click try later to leave the message in your outbox until it can be delivered."

suppose there exists a software, such that when I select folder1,2,3, all contained files will be displayed in the order of A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I...however, the files themselves are still stored in their original folders. They are just viewed in this single window.
Is it possible to execute the keyboard shortcut, "Save picture of a selected area as a file" by clicking the track ball on the Mighty Mouse? I'm thinking that I just need to find the location of this action and set it up on the Mighty Mouse.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to have my logic board replaced in my 12" G4 Powerbook. I restored my hard drive content (from Retrospect) and all seem to work fine. Programs and files are where they were as per the last backup. But now none of my printers are recognized. I can have them appear in the Printer Browser window but when I try to add them an error message comes up. "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. server-error-service-unavailable." I have run both TechTools Pro, and DiskWarrior and have restored permissions and zapped the PRAM. The problem occurs with both USB printers on AppleTalk and on our network printers at the office.

1. Launch Printer Setup Utility and reselect the printers.
2. Try Printer Setup Repair and ran its utility routines and the problem still exists.
I don't want to archive and install OS X if I don't have to.
