When you select text that is not adjacent to each other using the command+drag method, in most mac applications you are able to copy and cut it, or delete it.
In iworks, it won't let you do anything with it! Is there any way around this? It's really annoying.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to iMac, but with Windows XP, if you wanted to print only a paragraph or two from a webpage, you just highlighted it and hit 'print'.
So far with my 17" flat screen G4, when ever I do that I get the whole webpage no matter what. As a workaround I highlight the text in the webpage, copy it to the clipboard and then open 'text edit', copy it to there and then 'print'. This is Mac ! There must be a better way to do this.
When replacing pre-populated (untitled folder) or selected text in Finder, Safari, etc. a special character is added about 1/3 of the time. You can't see it in Finder, but it does show in file names viewed in Terminal, in URLs (only after you hit enter and Safari gets confused) in the file name at the top of certain apps, or on PCs.

I'm a student and I have to go through massive amounts of text each day or at least I ought to do so. Printing everything out isn't really an alternative and time-consuming as well. With Skim I can highlight selected text areas and make annotations. Unfortunately, I can't switch efficiently between highlight colors and the saved changes are only legible with this specific app.

When I select text from a portion of the document (like a paragraph) to change its property (like make it bold, or shift a block of text over by a tab), the whole document (everythiing else that i did not select) moves. This can happen to 200 pages! It's driving me nuts. It's also doing it to new documents. I have thrown away my preferences file: preferences/com.microsof.Word.plist; and restarted my computer but it keeps happening. I'm trying to finish a huge writing project with deadlines at the end of the week and it's making it really difficult to work.

I'm a recent switcher from Excel to Numbers. For the life of me, I cannot find a way in Numbers to "freeze" headings so that as you scroll down or across the sheet they remain visible.
I'd be grateful for help; the matter is not covered in the video tutorials, nor in my little manual that came with iWorks, nor on the Help Menu.
I have recently purchased my first Mac a few months ago. While I use a Windows PC at work and had previously used a Windows PC and home, I was frustrated with the home laptop and switched to a Mac. Now my question is, I am looking for a Word Doc and Spreadsheet application for personal use at home and I am not sure which to get, MS Office for Mac or IWorks. I currently use Word and Excel (and am pretty familiar with both) at work and previously at home. I do basic like writing letters, expense spreadsheet calculations, account listing, etc. I would also like to be able to sent Word and Excel docs from my work computer (in MS Office for Windows) to my home computer and be able to work and edit them and send them back. Not sure if IWorks would let me do that, or if MS Office for Mac is the way to go.

The story from an apple "genius" - iWorks allows you to open any office file (Word, excell or PPT) and work with in the native OS system without difficulty. You can also save to any of the above formats - so file transfers and exchange between workers/users should be seamless. So why get office? "Genius" answer: It's primarily for those that are comfortable with the way office looks, ie format. What I've been reading in this forum is that people do get both IWorks and Office for Macs (which apparently is not very robust), some go with boot camp and Office for Win. What are the actual differences? Other than how one looks over the other. Is there anything you can't do with iWork and need office?

I have searched the forums for help on cloning a DATA dvd (or Cd for that matter) but so far all i have found is info on copying movie dvd's...I am looking for a program that will let me clone a Program DVD that I have to make a backup copy. Can anyone suggest a good program?

I was going to use the app "Burn" to burn it, but the Video_TS is currently too large to be brunt to a DVD. I need to compress it first. Is there a simple way for me to copy my photos in my Iphoto so that I can put them on my wife's macbook? I want to keep them on mine also but she is wanting them too. I could just download to her computer from the camera they were taken on but they would not be edited and I want her to have the edited version.
