OS X :: Connecting And Syncing Folders Between User Accounts?

Jul 27, 2010

I have recently returned to the Mac fold after a long absence wandering in the pc desert and have just purchased a 21.5 inch iMac. In setting it up I have created two user accounts, one for myself and one for my wife. I am attempting to set it up so that folders such as pictures, music, downloads, etc. can be accessed by both of us. I'm also hoping that there is a way to make it so that if I upload photos to my iPhoto library they are also synced to her iPhoto library. Is this possible or a pipe dream?

Applications :: Syncing Entourage Accounts/Folders To Another Mac?

Oct 2, 2010

I have a bunch of email account profiles, folders, rules and signatures in Entourage on my iMac. I just bought a MacBook Pro and I would like to set up all these same settings and preferences in Entourage on it. It took me FOREVER to set all these preferences on my iMac and REALLY do not want to have to do it manually again on my new MacBook Pro. Does anyone know how to sync the two Entourage's so that all of these preferences are copied over to my MacBook Pro's version of Entourage?

Intel Mac :: During Gmail Upgrade, Standard User Accounts Changed To Mobileme Accounts?

Jun 28, 2012

I am not sure how it happened but after upgrading the gmail account, the user accounts were changed from standard users to Mobile Me users.  None of the users has ever had that type of account, and I am trying to figure out how to get it back to a standard user account.  When the user attempts to log in, it asks for the user name, but also the Mobile Me user name (which they do not have).  to make it worse, Mobile Me is no longer accpting new users, so I annot just add an account and log in using the new info.

Applications :: Syncing Mail Accounts Between 2 Macs?

Apr 6, 2010

I have 2 Macs, A Macbook Pro and an iMac.

I do use MobileMe and i know I'll be able to sync my mails that way, but due to the cost of internet connectivity in South Africa, I'd prefer not to be sharing my emails over the internet.

Is there a way that I can wirelessly sync my mails using my Airport?

Something automatic that would initiate the sync when both machines are detected on the network would be 1st prize.

Applications :: Syncing 2 ITunes Accounts On The Same Macbook Pro

Apr 26, 2010

I just bought a new MBP and have transferred all of my music, apps, etc. via my iPhone. My question is, can I sync my wife's iPhone on the same computer without having her iTunes library mix with mine? IMO, her music kinda sucks and I don't want her music, apps, etc. mixed with mine the next time I sync my phone.

ICloud :: Syncing Contacts With Multiple .me Accounts?

May 14, 2012

My wife and I both have a .mac/.me account. She runs iphone 4s & ipad 2 whilst I run iphone 3gs, macbook and imac. All now run IOS5/Lion and I transferred last week from mobile me to icloud. However, with mobileme we used to share contacts and calendars. I've worked out how we can continue to see a 'joint' calendar' [by adding my account to her iphone for calendar only] but cannot seem to do the same in respect of shared contacts.

We both have our own contacts which must stay on our own devices but I had assumed that the sharing of mutual data that was submitted by either of us via any our devices would be easier via icloud. Instead it seems harder since icloud has to attach to one or other of our identities, unlike mobile me. Obviously I can go through Clare's contacts in icloud and manually delete each individual of my contacts, but how do I add my contacts that she wants also on an ongoing basis?

OS X :: Syncing Folders In Os X

Jun 7, 2009

I am a student that has a lot of papers to write. It would be awesome if I could save a document to my documents stack, and then have a script or anything automated that would sync the folder (once a week maybe?) to my windows pc/file server in the basement. This should be an easy task but I am not sure where to begin.

Intel Mac :: Cannot Change Admin User To Standard User (2 Admin Accounts)

Mar 6, 2012

When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer.  I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user.

For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password.  I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.

I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account.  It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account.

why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"?  The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out.

OS X :: Time Machine Backup And Syncing Folders

Jan 14, 2011

Perhaps its just me being tired, as it seems there should be simple solutions to both of these problems, but I can't find them.

1) I got a new HD, and had it connected to my MacBook and MacBook Air one at a time to do an initial Time Machine backup. However, now I've connected it to my Time Capsule, and pointed them to the same partitions that they backed up to earlier - and they can't see the older backups. Is it possible to get them to see it and only start an incremental backup?

2) I'm also trying to mirror my iTunes library on the new hard drive, but all the methods I've tried so far (ie a couple of Automator actions and various apps) have either failed, or haven't worked properly (one has added several thousand '..DS_Store' files to the folder which aren't there even when I view hidden files!

OS X :: Syncing Multiple Folders Over 2 Macs Wirelessly?

Jul 9, 2009

im kinda anal about backing **** up. that said...

im getting a MBP for school blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda

i need a program that will allow me to automatically sync files between both my macs. (preferably wirelessly)

id like the notes i take in class on the mbp to sync with the imac when i get home. Id like my picture folders, design work folders, and documents folders to be in sync on both computers whenever im home.

if i add new pictures on the mbp, take new notes, or work on a .psd file.

I want them available on the imac without me having to manually bring them over and vice versa.

i just need a way for the folders to sync whenever im home.

that way when i do a back up on my imac, it also has a back up of the folders on the mbp.

OS X :: New MBP Setup And User Accounts

Dec 24, 2010

This is my first post as the soon to be proud owner of a 2010 13" MBP. I'm looking to copy all tunes/photos/settings from my 2006 mini and of course I've got questions:

1- Anyone do a new setup via wireless? I'm going to use a Linksys wireless N and was curious on a time estimate (I know its gonna be slow...).
2- The mini has all settings under my wife's user account...if I just transfer everything as is then I'll end up with my new MBP info being under her name as well. How can I get the files and settings that are under her name to show up under mine on the new MBP?

When setting it up, it asked if I wanted to migrate my stuff to the new computer, and like a fool, I didn't. Then laster, I used the migration wizard thing, and it said to pick a different name for my new user, since then we was already taken (brian Folkers). So now I have a Brianfolkers and a Brianfolkers2, with no way to make the one with all my applications from my mac (brianfolkers2) the admin, so I can get rid of the extra.

OS X :: Creating New User Accounts In Snow Leopard

Dec 28, 2010

As an administrator (without FileVault protection) on Snow Leopard, I created a standard user account (test user1) with FileVault protection. I just want to get familiar with it before creating real accounts. But as an administrator I can't look at files created by test user1. I get a message that I don't have permission.

Do I need FileVault on for the administrator in order to do this? If not, as an administrator, why can't I see what's on other user is doing? Is there a way as an administrator I can see what's files are downloaded, created, websites visited, etc? I'm aware of creating a user account with Parental controls, but would that give me the ability to see what's in the folder?

OS X :: How To Get Two User Accounts Reference The Same ITunes Library

Oct 2, 2010

My wife and I just got a new Mac and are looking to each have their own login for mail, web/bookmarks, etc. but we want to have our media shared so that both users can login and see the same iTunes Library.

Additionally I want to make sure if say one person buys something from iTunes that the other would automatically be able to see it in their library (and wouldn't have to manually add the files/folders).

Lastly, we both use Lightroom and Photoshop and I need to make sure that we can access each other's files in a single location and that we won't get locked out.

MacBook :: Multitouch Not Working For Certain User Accounts?

Jan 11, 2009

Ive a weird problem with the trackpad of my brand new 13" MacBook:

there are three user accounts on it, lets say "Admin", "User-1" and "User-2". While the multitouch option is working fine for the "Admin" and "User-1" accounts, it does not work in the "User-2" account, no matter which settings I try in the trackpad system preferences panel.

Im pretty sure that this has something to do with the fact that the "User-2" account is the only one that was migrated (using the migration assistant) from my old G4 iBook. I reckon that this caused some incompatible system preferences to be installed somewhere in the depths of the "system" or "user/library" folders.

OS X :: All Of User Accounts Disappeared And Replaced With Other When Login

Mar 9, 2009

On sunday my dad and I bought the brand new 24" iMac, it is a great machine. However today when I went to login, all of the user accounts had disappeared and was replaced with "other...". When you click on it, it will ask you to type in your username and password but no matter what you type it will never let me on. I heard you can do this using terminal a while back, by hiding user accounts. However nobody here has done this, and as everybody else's account does not work it, so it raises some suspicions. My mom immediately thought we had been hacked, which I refuse to believe but it still is possible. We were using the beta of Safari and my sister had been using google images to find wallpapers. I downloaded Quicksilver, Adium, and Amua. That is it. We booted into single user mode and all accounts are there.

Applications :: Multiple User Accounts With Front Row?

I have my MBP (running SL) with two user accounts, mine and my fiance's. I watch movies on my ACD and would like to be able to just pick up my remote, open front row and select any movie, regardless of which account is actually signed in at the time.

Can I do this?

To be clear, we have separate accounts and separate iTunes libraries within our respective accounts, each containing some movies.

I've read several threads that say "turn on sharing in iTunes" so I did that, but it isn't working. I can see the content in iTunes itself, but nothing is showing up in Front Row. Does anyone know A) if this is possible and B) how to do it?
