Hi, I want to connect my PS3/X360 to my iMac 27 inch. There is one problem, standard adapter from HDMI -> miniDisplay or adapters in connection: HDMI -> DVI -> miniDisplay does not deal with this.
View 4 RepliesToday I bought iMac 27-inch. Firstly I planned to buy 21.5 inch, but when I saw this 27-inch I decided to buy it. I've got Core 2 Duo version.
So, I wanna to connect my 360 to this iMac. I have Mini Display -> DVI adapter and than DVI -> HDMI adapter and the problem could be sound. DVI does not transmit any sound. So is there option to play sound from 360 on my iMac or via headphones? What if I connect stereo cables (into mini jack using adapter).
I've searched for hours upon hours trying to find solutions to my problem. I recently purchased the xbox 360 wireless adaptor hoping it would pick up the internet sharing I have coming from my imac, which is connected to a modem via ethernet cable. I send out the internet on my imac as I have 2 windows laptops and my iphone which all connect with no problems what so ever.
The xbox wireless adaptor will see my imacs network but just won't join. There are a few people around my neighborhood that have unsecured networks which the xbox wireless adaptor picks up and connects to no problem. I now want to try the apple usb to ethernet converter with my imac to see if I can connect the xbox 360's RJ-45 into either the apple to ethernet converter or the imacs ethernet port while still receiving the internet from my modem.
Here's my idea on a setup when I move into my garage. Xbox 360 connected to iMac 27" with a Kanex XD HDMI to Mini DisplayPort adaptor. A FreeView box also connected via HDMI though the Kanex XD adaptor using a HDMI switch. Or instead of the FreeView box I might get an EyeTV TV Tuner so I can use the new app to watch live tv on my iPhone.
Here's my other idea...
Mac Mini connected to my 42" Samsung HD monitor via HDMI
Xbox 360 also connected to the monitor with HDMI
A FreeView box also connected via HDMI to the monitor with a HDMI switch to change between the three.
I suppose it depends on screen size at the end of the day.
I use on my iMac 21.5 inch a eye tv 250 plus do I need to connect it to this to let the PS3 work and have some experience of it works or does it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSay I set up my xbox with a component to minidisplay port adapter and plugged the mini display port into my macbook pro 13 inch, could i use the moniter as a dsplay for my xbox. I currently don't have an hd tv in my dorm and i like the display on my macbook and would like to use it. Also, would it be possible to buy something like an hdmi to firewire 800 and then use the firewire port on my macbook for the video in. Even though the mini displayport is an output, will it make a difference. I am also interested in buying a capture device and using that with the usb port on my mac, but i have heard that the latancy is really bad and you don't get to play at the full resolution.

Apple lists this on their site: [URL] but it's designed as a video capture card, so I'm not sure if it's appropriate for using simply to play the 360 on. Mac Pro, 30" ACD, Apple LED 24" display, and 360 and I have a uMBP.
I have an Airport Extreme connected to cable modem. I also have an Airport Express for some reason. My 360 is in another room.. and while I have a long enough ethernet cable to hardwire it to the router, that's pretty inconvenient and doesn't really look that good. So my question is... how would the connection quality be if I connect it to the airport express? Is it like hardwiring it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 23" Apple Cinema Display (the older model in the clear plastic casing) with a Dual 2ghz G5. I'm not to technically inclined yet as I just got into computers and decided to give macs a try. I just got a xbox 360 and was hoping to connect it to my cinema display. Just wondering if this is possible. From what I understand my G5 has and DVI out which is why I had to get a DVI to ADC adapter for it to work with my display. Microsoft sells a VGA adapter but I'm guessing that will not work with my display. Also if it is possible what type of device would I need to use the monitor with the xbox and the G5 together? (I know I can't use them at the same time but alternate so I don't have to keep unplugging and hooking up cables every time I go between machines).

I just got an xbox 360 with the latest wireless adapter ("N" type) and when I try to set up the xbox to work wirelessly, the setup "fails" - xbox either can't "see" my home wireless network or else can't attach to it. Any suggestions how I can fix this problem?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe new 27-inch iMac uses up to 365W vs 280W for the old 24-inch! (going by Apple's published max. power consumption numbers. I doubt they would lie because it isn't exactly favourable for them to put in falsely high numbers in an environmental report).
That means there's some extra beef behind the extra components. Perhaps the ATI 4670 is a bit overclocked and the 4850 runs a bit faster than the old iMacs? Admittedly that 2.8 GHz i7 is going to suck a fair bit of power - the recent 2.8 GHz i7 860 model runs at a 95W TDP, however, the quad core iMac isn't available until November. So it won't be using the i7 860, and my guess it is using another custom processor, something a bit more power efficient, somewhere in between the 55W TDP of the old iMacs and the 95W TDP of the i7 860.
The difference between the power consumption of the two computers is 85W. The old iMac had a 24-watt digital amplifier, this new one has two 17-watt amplifiers. That brings the delta down to 75W. Say the iMac's i7 processor has an 80W TDP. That now brings the delta down to 50W. The new display likely wouldn't increase power consumption because of the LED backlight.
I'm not sure if I'm missing much (OK, two extra RAM chips may use another few watts), but there is still a fairly massive 50W unaccounted for.

I have an Airport Extreme network with an XBox 360 hooked up to it via ethernet. I would like to be able to use the XBox 360 as a media extender using the Windows Media Center running in Vista on my MacBook Pro. Vista Ultimate is running under VMware's Fusion and not as a bootcamp partition (not sure if this matters, but thought I'd mention it just in case). The MacBook Pro is using Wi-Fi (N) to connect to the Airport Extreme.
I followed the directions on the [URL] page, and all four things below that are required to be checked (given permission to run) or running as directed, yet I still get the message stating the Xbox could not be found. UPNP is indeed running.
What am I missing? Do I have to open ports on the Airport Extreme, even if the computer and xbox are on the same network? Do I have to open anything on the MacBook Pro on the Mac OS side?
Does anyone know if the panel used in Apples 24 inch Cinema display is the same as the 24 inch iMac?

With the i3 I can get the student discount and qualify for the ipod, but the i5 is 23% off right now. Which should I get? Also is there a benefit of getting a 5 series graphics card over a 4 series graphics card?

I love it so much. I'm really into video editing and HD video, but the problem is that my MBP is running out of harddrive space, and I'm longing for a bigger display and a better processor. (I have the 13" C2D). I'm going to pick up an iMac this Spring. But I wanted to know if I should stick to the Core i3 21.5, or spend more and go for the 27 inch.
Is the new 27 inch cinema display any different the the displays on the 27 inch iMac??
