OS X :: Connecting Both Mac And XP VM To VPN At Same Time?

Jan 22, 2008

I work at home on OS X and connect to my office VPN using Juniper's Network Connect software. I also run Windows XP on my OS X using VMWare, and sometimes connect to the office VPN on XP, using the windows NetworkConnect client. I have two questions:

1. I installed MS Office 2008 Standard on my Macbook. I cannot get MS Messenger to talk to the MS communications service through the VPN. I have apple mail talking to the exchange server just fine, and entourage is also talking to the exchange server. I configured messenger with the communication service name, by id, etc., but no luck. It says 'service unavailable try later', even though I can ping the service box using the same DNS name from the terminal command line. Has anyone with Office 2008 for Mac got MS Messenger to talk to their internal office system?

2. As a workaround I connected to work via XP on VMware and connected to the office IM system using MS Communicator on XP. That worked fine. However, as soon as use Juniper network connect to connect to the office VPN on XP/VMWare, my OS X Juniper Network Connect disconnects. And vice versa. I really want both OS X and my XP VM connected to the VPN at the same time. I'm using a NAT connection on VMWare; played around with a bridge connection without much luck but didn't try to hard. Anyone have any ideas here? Again I'm trying to find some way for my VMWare XP and OS X to both connect to the office VPN using Juniper NetworkConnect, at the same time.

Hardware :: Connect To Time Capsule While Connecting To Wifi Network At Same Time?

Sep 22, 2009

I recently purchased a Time Capsule to use as a wireless hard drive. I connect to the internet both through wifi and ethernet to a educational network that does not allow extra routers, etc, to be added to the network, therefore I can not use the time capsule for this wifi.

I therefore want to connect to my early 2009 MBP17unibody to both the academic internet network for http/pop3/ftp/etc while simultaneously connecting to external hard drive to store data/itunes-library/etc.

I expect this has been asked before but I can't find any threads where it has. If anyone knows it would be highly helpful. I'd prefer to connect to both wirelessly but I could potentially put up with connecting to either or both with ethernet.

But when I try to connect to my Time Capsule I get a message, "there is a problem connecting to time capsule". My iMac and Macbook pro both connect to the same time capsule with no problem. It seems the time machine prefpane on the MacPro has been corrupted. What to do?

Hardware :: Connecting My Time Capsule To Existing Router?

Jan 5, 2011

I have just purchased a new Time Capsule but struggling to set it up in the most effective manner. I currently have a Belkin Wireless Router / Modem that I was using to provide me with internet connection and my home wireless network.

Now I have the TC, I want to use that for my home wireless network but I will need to still use my Belkin router / modem to provide me with the internet connection.

Is there a way I can disable the 'router' element of the belkin unit and just use it as a simple ADSL ethernet modem to connect to my TC and then let the TC set up the network?

OS X :: Connecting Time Capsule To Create Wireless Network Possible?

Aug 7, 2009

I begin uni next month and have been offered accommodation. My room won't have WiFi but will have a wired connection. I'm wondering, is it possible to - rather than connect my MacBook - connect the Time Capsule to this connection and create a wireless network? Also, is it simple to switch from one connection (my current WiFi at home) to another (the uni connection)? Finally, is it easy to switch from being connected via Ethernet to using WiFi (after initial backup for example)? The lack of WiFi would really be rubbish when I have an iPhone and Time Capsule.

Hardware :: Connecting Time Capsule To Public Network?

Jan 31, 2010

So i searched everywhere i could to try and find an answer to this question, because i imagine at least someone on this planet is having this same problem, but i haven't found anything. so here i am, asking you:

Originally i had bought a Time Capsule 1TB and connected it to my internet modem and used it to create a network, then i had a AirPort express that i used solely for AirTunes to my stereo. So i had wireless backup for my MBP, N-Speed wireless internet for computer and iPhone and wireless music in my room, it was awesome.

but i just moved into a condo downtown that we are subleasing. The owner told me it had wifi so that was a selling point for me. but heres my problem, currently i have my TC and AirTunes on one network, for music and backups, but there is no ethernet connection in my condo, so i cannot directly connect it to the internet, so for internet i connect to the public wifi, and have to switch every time i want music in the living room, or want to back up., and i cant do either at the same time as i connect to the internet.

and i cannot extend the wifi in the building since it is not N. so i followed the instructions to connect my TC and AirPort to my existing WiFi, and to my knowledge, they will both connect as clients and be accessible all through my buildings WiFi. But, when i take them off their own network and connect them to the public wifi they just disappear and i have no way of finding them ever again through AirPort Utility unless i reset them.

so i was very troubled with this and it bothered me for ages, and i was just using 2 separate networks, but then i realized that every time a new client connects to the building's wifi it goes to a page where you must click 'ACCEPT" to the terms of use before having access to the network, so on my MBP i can open safari and click accept, but my TC and AirPort cannot click accept.

is this my problem? what do i need to do? can i connect for the first time to the network through ethernet from my MBP to the TC and turn off my wireless card in my mbp then click accept in safari on my mbp? or can i connect my mbp to the wifi and reset my MAC or IP address to the same as my TC or AirPort then click accept, that way the TC's and AirPort's IP and/or MAC are registered on the network and they can continue to connect without being asked to accept the ToU?

Hardware :: Connecting Partitioned Drive To Airport Extreme For Time Machine?

Can I use partitions connected in this way as Time Machine backups?3. Will there be problems if both my iMac and MacBook try to backup to the Time Machines at the same time?

Hardware :: Time Capsule 1TB Connecting To Existing WiFi Network - Best Configuration?

May 14, 2010

I have a mixed Mac/PC environment - Macbook Pro (snow leopard); iMac 21 (leopard); 2 x Dell laptops (XP) - and an existing wifi network from a Belkin 8233-4 N modem/router. Also connected to the wifi network is a WHS for backing up the laptops; an HP printer; 2 iphones; an xbox 360; and a Wii.

I've just bought a 1TB Time Capsule to use to back up the Macs as my previous external time machine hard drive just died (which was connected via USB to the iMac).

At the moment, I've got the TC set up to join my existing wifi network (it's connected via an Ethernet cable from the Belkin wireless router), however I'm getting issues with the wifi network not working properly and being unable to connect to the internet. Every time you wake the Mac, you have to manually reconnect to the wifi (and sometimes even re-enter the password), and things work OK until the Mac goes back to sleep. When I go into the Airport utility, the settings say that the TC is set to create a new network, so I reset it back to join an existing network via ethernet, but then if I go back to these settings a little later (after having problems with the wifi connectivity), they have reverted back to create a new network !

What am I doing wrong ?

Hardware :: Fresh Leopard Install - Connecting To Previous Time Capsule Backup?

May 5, 2009

From time-to-time I obsessively reinstall Leopard on my MacBook Pro. I clone my drive to an external, install Leopard totally clean (erasing everything), and then drage back the contents of my home folders. I don't transfer anything from my Library folder, I like to start completely clean and rebuild my settings manually. Yes, I'm obsessive, like I said from before.

So now I've got my clean Leopard install. Everything is perfect. How do I back up to the existing sparseimage that's on my Time Capsule?

I realize it will be a fairly large first sync, but I'd love to still be able to grab deleted files from last October if need be.

Anyone know of settings or .plist trickery to make this happen? Can I simply choose that sparseimage in the Time Machine system preference?

Applications :: Time Machine Taking Long Time To Backup - Changing Backup Time?

Dec 11, 2009

I have looked into this a lot already. It is to much that Time Machine backs up every single hour! It would be nice to set it to something like 3 or 5 hours. I have tried a 3rd party app to do this, but... If my computer was off or asleep when it was supposed to back up, it would get an error. It would not just do the backup when i turned it on or when it came out of sleep like stock Time Machine does. I have also seen a way to change the time incraments in the Terminal.(I am very good with it, not a noob) I have tried this and it screws up time machine completely. Maybe it does not work with the newest OS X. By the way... I have a 2010 MacBook Pro, got it 2 months ago.

Does anyone know a solid 3rd party app, that will work seamlessly. Or has anyone changed the time in Terminal and are currently using something different than 1 hour. There is a lot of examples online, but I would like the codeing that you literally used.
