Windows On Mac :: Bootcamp Partition Won't Mount In OSX

Jun 5, 2009

I decided earlier today that I wanted my boot camp partition to be bigger so I made a disk image of it with winclone and then proceeded to restore my HD to a single partition and then partition it again with boot camp assistant.

The partitioning went fine and then I had two partitions. I then went to restore my system with the mac clone image and this process went fine and I can now boot up into windows with the partition.

when I am in OSX the bootcamp partition will not mount. When I go into disk utility and try and mount it from there I get an error message that says "the drive cannot be mounted, try running first aid on the disk and try mounting again

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Not Mount XP / FAT32 Partition

Jul 28, 2010

I have a Mini 2.26 Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 1067 DDR3 RAM and a 160 GB HDD. I'm pasting the system profiler specs:

Macintosh HD:
Capacity:125.49 GB (125,493,575,680 bytes)
Available:101.22 GB (101,216,739,328 bytes)
Writable:Yes
File System:Journaled HFS+
BSD Name:disk0s2
Mount Point:/

BootCamp:
Capacity:34.2 GB (34,202,451,968 bytes)
Available:13.77 GB (13,774,503,936 bytes)
Writable:Yes
File System:MS-DOS FAT32
BSD Name:disk0s3
Mount Point:/Volumes/BOOTCAMP

The partition "Bootcamp" can be seen from OSX, but when I restart and use the option button to select an OS, it just hangs up on a white screen and never loads the choices. Booting without the option button defaults to OSX. I have also tried to repair the disk in disk utility. I can definitely wipe the partition and reload XP, but I'd love an alternative. I've backed up the XP partition on a different HDD, so I'm ready to go. As this is my work rig, I have to get this resolved correctly.

Windows On Mac :: Unable To Create Partition / Restoring BootCamp Image To Partition?

Nov 11, 2010

I recently made a clone of my Windows XP Pro SP3 installation (its roughly about 14GB according to Finder/WinClone) so i made a 80GB partition on my 320GB drive and it gives me this error message:

the WinClone came from a 500GB internal drive and ive gotten winclone images to restore to a MBP before but not sure why its giving me this error code, anyway to restore the image to the new partition (which was created with Bootcamp) as i no longer have access to the old machine it was running on.

Windows On Mac :: Won't Work With Additional Partition / Enlarging BootCamp Partition

Aug 31, 2010

So my iMac came with a 1TB hard drive and I installed Windows 7 x64 but only gave it some 93GB. I have a two-prong question:

Can I add a third partition to my drive after I partition for BootCamp? My main partition ("Macintosh HD" by default) is over 900GB large and I'd really like to cut that up into 2x450GB, for example, in addition to the 93GB BootCamp partition.

Second, once partitioned, is it possible to resize the BootCamp partition to make it bigger after it has been set up?

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Partition - Vista NOT Installed - Partition Gone

Aug 5, 2009

I have a 13" MBP with a 250 gb hd, I partitioned the HD 25gb for Windows XP shortly after I bought it. I was unable to install my copy of windows, contacted apple after exhaustive search as to why... Long story short, I now have Vista to install... When I went back to Boot Camp Assistant; partition was gone. Researched... ran disk utility, repaired and erased partition. Bootcamp HD now shows up in desktop, still not in bootcamp assistant. Since I am unable to locate in assistant; would there be any problems with just installing Vista off the install disk by restarting? Any ideas what to do if this is not a good idea (short of restoring)?

MacBook Air :: Migrating Bootcamp Image / Blackbook Bootcamp Partition Having Windows

Jan 30, 2009

Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.

Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

I just can't resize it... I've tried anything as low as resizing it to 10gb to 100gb... both fails.I have more than 200gb free space.I have just run a full defrag with iDefrag I've tried to do fileoptimization with techtool pro v5
I tried using camptune (which only works if you already have a working bootcamp partition, which I dont.

IMac :: Resizing Bootcamp Partition - Backing Up Bootcamp Image?

Apr 16, 2010

im on a goal to resize my bootcamp partition... im running 10.6.4 with Win7 in Bootcamp... i made a mistake of only making a 80GB partition for windows 7.... now i want to make it bigger, i have read up on a number of methods but most are outdated and users report issues with windows 7 and SL so i'm a lil stuck... this is my idea

I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?

Software :: OEM And Bootcamp Format The Partition That Bootcamp Created

May 3, 2009

Bought an OEM version to use with bootcamp. Everything works fine up to the point where it is supposed to let me format the partition that bootcamp created. The XP installation just skips right from when I select the C:yatta-yatta/bootcamp partition and starts installing. So obviously the partition is not bootable... Does anyone know if this is because the OEM version of the OS or something else. I tried to reduce the size of the partition because I read a thread about FAT32 not playing well with disc sizes greater than 32Gb. Still didn't work...

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Fails To Make BootCamp Partition

Jan 23, 2009

I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.

I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."

So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?

OS X :: Partition Won't Mount After System Crash And Reboot

Apr 27, 2009

im running OSX Leopard on my Macbook Pro and I have a mobile hard-drive attached. My bittorrent client, Azureus, is likely accessing one of the three partitions on the external drive when, for some reason, my system hangs. After a while i I just hold down the power button to force a restart.

After it starts up everything works fine, except that the partition that was in use wont mount, although the other two will without problem.

All the partitions show up in disk utility. If i try to mount the troublesome partition from within disk utility, I get a dialogue box saying the mount failed and I should try first aid. When I try to repair it with "Verify disk", it tells me that the volume "appears to be ok".

OS X :: Boot Camp - Cannot Mount Windows 7 Partition

Jan 18, 2010

Summary: Can't mount Win7 partition in OSX. NTFS-3G installed.

So I finally got around to installing Win 7 on my iMac through boot camp. During the install I deleted the partition BC created and reformatted. (I've now learned this is a bad way to do things and I should have just hit 'format' - as I understand that would have left me with the Boot Camp configuration all OK on the Mac end of things). I did the whole delete-the-ati-drivers nonsense and it's installed & running well on Win7. What I can't do now is mount my windows 7 partition in Disk Util so I can write some files to the partition in Snow Leopard (or mount the disk for VM/Parallels). NTFS-3G is installed. Is there a way to get this fixed so that I can accomplish without reinstalling Win7 (again)?

Hardware :: Quit Booting From OS X Partition - Drive Won't Mount

Dec 16, 2010

I have a G3 Pismo laptop with a 30GB drive. The drive has an OSX partition and a classic partition. However, it recently quit booting form the OSX partition and will not mount this. Disc Utility run from DVD will not repair it. I have used Tech Tool on it three times. After the last "repair" Tech Tool said the volume passed, but it still doesn't mount. I tried using it in Target Disc mode with my G4. Still, only the OS 9 volume mounts. Toast will not create a disc image, so I guess I'm screwed. My only options at this point are older classic utilities. Is there any chance that Disc Warrior for OS 9 will get this volume to mount so I can copy things, format, and reinstall?

Windows On Mac :: Unable To Mount Partition - Grayed Out In Disk Utility

Dec 26, 2010

I can boot into bootcamp with no problems. I have been wanting to be able to open the bootcamp in Parallels. Here is the issue:

1. The partition 'disk0s3' is greyed out in Disk Utility. It is not mounted. Mounting does nothing.

2. For reference, the Windows 7 is formatted as NTFS. It is a Windows 7 64-bit install

3. Verify disk does the following:
Verifying volume "disk0s3" ** /dev/disk0s3
Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: efbbbf
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.

4. repairing does the following:
Verify and Repair volume "disk0s3" ** /dev/disk0s3
Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: efbbbf
Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can"t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.

I have stuff on the Windows partition that I don't want deleted. I'm really stuck on this -obviously, I can just continue to boot into bootcamp, I just would rather open it from Parallels. I'm not sure what or if I made some mistake in setting up Bootcamp, I thought I followed the directions to that. I do know I formatted the partition as NTFS during the install - as I think Windows 7 requires it. I have tried installing NTFS-3G - it is installed, but didn't do any good when trying to mount the drive.

And how do I get it working on the tower?

OS X :: Freeagent For Mac Doesn't Mount After 10.5.6 Update?

Dec 17, 2008

I'm sorry to say that all was OK until.. I updated OS to 10.5.6 two days ago.. and my external 1T Seagate Freeagent Desktop for Mac stopped mounting on Firewire.
It will mount on USB, it will mount on FW when Mac is restarted, but will not when you boot up after your system was shut down.
I tried to reformat, repair the disk, repair permissions and nothing worked.

Somebody posted that you should disconnect your Firewire stuff before OS update? Is this correct?

Can anyone please suggest anything as I don't want to end up having this HD hooked with USB...

Alternatively how can I revert to the OS before the update? Is restoring from Time Machine the only solution?

OS X :: Bootcamp And Partition Error

Jun 10, 2008

the other day ive decided to finally put xp on my macbook, just so everybody knows i use my macbook for my uni assignments and to store all my close memories (photos and diaries) so the data on there is vital and priceless. I launched the bootcamp application and i chose to partition 32gb for the windows, at this point i turned away to use my main PC playin a game while my macbook is partitioning away. i look back about 10mins later and i see a grey screen asking me to reset my macbook in few different languages. i didnt really read it properly thinking its apple and everything is idiotproof! it said to hold the power button in for few seconds to reset which i did, i resetted it and i was expecting the bootcamp to relaunch to further continue the operation (installin windows time or doin the driver disk thing) but it doesnt happen. i put the xp disc in and it doesnt load, and i look in finder and im missing a good 32gb, i restarted again holding the option key and i only see the Mac HD icon. i am a fairly new mac user and i just want to keep it full mac, i want to restore the way that it was without the stupid windows idea. is there a safe way to remerge my partitions together into the orginal full one? also ive used disk utitilies and it doesnt pick up another partition.
