Does anyone know where I can get a GPS (USB) module with map software for a MacBook?
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust thinking down the road, so please bear with me. Regarding adding a HD and possibly ram at a later date. I have a couple questions...1.) If adding or replacing in the first year, will that void your warranty??2.) How is the ram module configured on a MacBook pro?? If it cam with 4 GB then can I just add a 4 GB card or do you have to get a straight 8 GB card??3.) If upgrading to a bigger HD, can you just do a backup restore or do you have to totally reinstall from the scratch??

I have a 2011 macbook pro and I heard that handoff only works on bluetooth 4.0. I have no interest in using a dongle, so I wondered if i could jut replace the bluetooth module in my computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I up/downgraded from a 2010 17" Macbook Pro to a 2011 15" Macbook Pro. I had previously swapped the old hard drive in the 17" to an SSD using the OWC data doubler kit. Now that I moved on to the 15", I wanted to move my SSD over to the new Macbook Pro.
During the process opening the new MacBook and unscrewing a two of the screws around the optical drive, both of the screws became stripped on the module the covers the optical drive. I have to be honest and say that they are pretty badly striped at this point. I've read a handful of articles online with many different possible solutions on removing the stripped screw, but none of which seem to work nor do I want to cause any further or possible permanent damage, I do have AppleCare on the machine, but I wasn't sure if modifications and upgrades such as this where covered.

I plan on buying more ram soon. my mac pro 2010 quad 2.8 came with 1066 ram but I am buying 1333 ram (hex core in future) 4GB models. I know that my new ram will be reduced to 1066 but will the new ram be able to coexist with the old 1GB modules?

I installed 8 x 4Gb RAM in my Mac Pro (2.2.4GHz Quad-core Intel xeon). When I check, slot 8 shows up as empty and that I only have 28 Gb of RAm and not 32. Can I leave things alone and run it on 28Gb of RAM or should I remove the defective module in slot 8 as well as the RAM in Slot 4 to balance it? Alternatively I have 2 x 1 Gb RAm modules I could put in slot 4 and 8.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed it, system profiler keeps saying it's 256. I have a 128 and 2 64's in there. In the 4th slot I put the 512. I tried just putting it in (to make just 512) and it still said.
What is weird is that when it only had the 512 stick in there, it seemed faster then with just the other 3 sticks. Is it just saying the wrong number?
I turned my MacBook 2.4 unibody on when i got home from work today to find that my bluetooth mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. I opened up system preferences to find that no bluetooth menu was there. I looked in spotlight and tried to connect a bluetooth device only to get a message telling me I had no bluetooth module installed I have no idea what happened, only 10 hours ago it was working fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my Mac Pro for a few years now, and I rewired the bluetooth module when I first got it. I then had Airport installed about 3 months ago, and had to rewire it again because the "geniuses" at Apple didn't know the wires were labeled incorrectly. I just moved my computer downstairs and my Apple Bluetooth keyboard is not working correctly. It lags, repeats letters, etc. Upstairs on one desk, it worked fine. Down here, on a different desk, It's acting up. My keyboard is on the left middle of the desk, and the computer is on the floor on the right side. Total distance is less than three feet, with a file drawer inbetween. It works if I put it in my lap, but not on the desk. I just opened it up to check the wires again, and they are tight, and right.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Logitech Dinovo Edge and a Logitech 470 Travel Mouse.. the keyboard has been working fine but I've been having problems with the mouse.. I read about the Bluetooth Module and the BT,1,2,3 wires inside the mac pro and the possibility of a wire being labeled wrong. Unless the module is on the back of the motherboard, I haven't seen any wire that says BT. If the tray where the ram slots are is removed there 2 tiny wires in the lower left that says 1 and 3. No other connector for BT so I don't think thats the location. Where is this Bluetooth Module located? If I cant get this to work correctly whats the best dongle to get?

I've been using my MacBookPro (1.83ghz) for 3 days, and today it began acting funky. It has spontaneously restarted about 10 times today. It restarted itself about 4 times in 10 minutes just now. Twice it has restarted as soon as the previous restart completed, before any programs have been launched, and with no peripherals plugged in. Other times it has spontaneously restarted with only Safari open, and with Illustrator CS open. Any ideas about what might be happening? Anyone had this issue? Could this be related to software? Or the 1 gig RAM module I installed?
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo my iBook of 4 years died last week from a bad hard drive. Today I purchased a 1.42 Ghz G4 Mini with 1 GB of RAM, 80 Gb HDD, Super Drive, and Airport, for $300 on craigslist. I got it today set everything up with my Dell Monitor and Apple Keyboard and Mouse etc.
First: Any thoughts on if this was a wise purchase (hindsight being 20/20 and all), I'm very happy thus far and will look to get a Macbook Pro in about 6-12 months.
Second: Is there anyway to get or upgrade the Mini to have the nonexistent Bluetooth module? If not, what's the best option to create Bluetooth connectivity?
I've got a refurb 21.5" iMac 3.06GHz/4GB RAM/500GB HDD arriving soon.I believe it has two 2GB modules installed in two of the four memory slots, with two other slots unused. I have a few questions before I order more RAM for my machine.
Is it advisable to have ALL the RAM modules be of identical brand and size? Can other brands of RAM be added to the two empty slots as long as they are of the same specifications? Do RAM modules need to be added in pairs or is single ok?Can the added RAM modules be of any size (1GB, 2GB, or 4GB) and still work fine with the factory installed 2GB modules?
For example, would there be any performance problem by adding a single 4GB module to the existing two 2GB modules? Or would it be better to add two 2GB modules rather than a single 4GB module?
Anyone know where i can get the combo airport/bluetooth module for my dualcore pci-e G5 powermac, in the uk? How much is it?

Just upgraded my MBP from one of the first unibodys. The new computer is great, but the power cord? Surely that was one giant leap backwards? Yeah it looks cool, but I have nearly destroyed my new MBP many times - that old panicy, heart in mouth feeling when you trip over the power cord and turn round to see you computer sliding towards the edge of the table is back! With the cord parallel to the body rather than perpendicular it doesn't seem to have the leverage to pop out easy any more. Admittedly I am clumsier than most, but then thats why I loved the old magsafe so much. It makes me wornder, am I just using it wrong or does anybody else wish for simpler times?
