OS X :: Any Way To Force Switch Off Bluetooth?

Jan 28, 2009

In order to use the wireless keyboard and mouse from my iMac, but still keep the iMac running I need a way to force switch off bt. When I use the menu, it blocks it and says you can't switch it off cause then you'll have no input device.

MacBook Pro :: Switch To Another Available Wireless Network And Then Switch Back?

Dec 14, 2010

If I select from the menu bar another available wireless network (one without a password for example) and then switch back to my own wi-fi network, am I still safe?

Did the fact that I connected to another network present any risks?

I did not send any private info during that time, any risks of getting hacked?

OS X Technologies :: AppleScript To Schedule Switch Off And After 1 Minute Switch On

Apr 15, 2012

Sometimes restarting is not enough: you need to power off your Mac, wait for a little, and power it on again. It could be a script which act like the "schedule" program in system preferences: it would switch off the Mac immediately, the add 1 minute to the current time and switch it on again.

OS X :: "force Eject" Or Force Anything Accessing Time Machine Volume To Shut Down

Mar 5, 2009

My Time Machine drive is a USB hard disk, and when I plug it in, I am unable to get it to eject (even if the Time Machine preferences show that I am NOT backing the disk up). When I unplug it, I get the warning message about not unplugging drives before ejecting. Is is there a way for me to "force eject" or force anything accessing my time machine volume to shut down, so that I can properly eject it?

MacBook Pro :: Disable The Built-in Bluetooth And Enable A Bluetooth Dongle Instead?

Mar 4, 2008

I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard that I want to share between a PC and MBP via a DVI/USB KVM switch. I think I can do this by plugging a USB Bluetooth dongle into the KVM's USB input.

If I use the MBP's built-in bluetooth then when I switch from one computer to the other via the KVM, the keyboard and mouse will stay paired with the MBP; but if I disable the built-in hardware then the dongle can provide the bluetooth capability and be switched between the computers.

Software :: Using Bluetooth Headset/non-apple Bluetooth?

Sep 1, 2005

Hey guys..>I'm trying to set up my jabra bt200 bluetooth headset to work with my mac (osx 10.4.2, 15" powerbook 1.67ghz)...and I can get it to pair, but it won't stay connected for more than a split second. this is a problem i've seen a few people have, looking around on various forums and stuff, and i was trying various solutions when i decided to try doing a firmware upgrade on the internal bluetooth module. I downloaded the firmware updater (1.2), tried to run it and it came up with the following error:

"This computer does not have an Apple Bluetooth module installed. It cannot be updated by this application."

Why would my Powerbook not have an Apple Bluetooth module?!?!?! It's got bluetooth installed, it's internal, but looking at the system profile, it says it's the manufacturer is Cambridge Silicon Radio. So is this normal or what? Is the firmware upgrade even going to help me out in the end? Just to clarify...the powerbook came with bt installed factory...it's not something added by me!

OS X :: Bluetooth Icon Says "Bluetooth Unavailable"?

Feb 23, 2009

So I finally install the latest updates from Apple, and reboot, and now my Bluetooth icon says "Bluetooth Unavailable". I have a 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4 with internal Bluetooth. I've been using BT since I got this thing in late 2004. Now the icon doesn't even show up in the control panel.

Has anyone else had this problem? I kind of need the BT to use my current setup. And I'm out of AppleCare time. (It's an OLD laptop.)

OS X :: How To Do Force Hibernate

Feb 25, 2008

When finishing for the night though on a Vista machine I hibernate - actually the auto-hibernate is fairly aggressively set on all my notebooks, so even if I leave it in immediate resume sleep it will hibernate after an hour or so. What it means is that if I'm working off batteries it doesn't end up even flatter the next day.

It's been a while since I used an OS X notebook actually on the move on an all-day basis, but the Air is getting a workout in that role at the moment. I know OS X is capable of the same thing but usually only when the battery is on low charge. I notice on the Air the sleep uses up around 10% of a charge during an ~8-hour night and that is not great, especially on top of the mediocre battery life of the Air. Is there a way to set auto-hibernate-to-disk after a certain period of sleep? I know I can shut it down, and a de-hibernate pretty much takes the same amount of time as booting up, but I want my stuff to come up as they're left.

OS X :: IMac And AOL - Need To Force Quit

Mar 25, 2009

I purchased a new IMac Intel version and I am having a problem with AOL. I have always had a problem with AOL and my Macs (now on number 3). In the past, if I left AOL running it would not allow the Macs to close down without Force Quitting from AOL and AOL would not quit normally. With the new Mac, if I use AOL it won't quit and when I Force Quit it disconnects the Mac from the internet and I have to restart. As I live in Antigua both Apple and AOL have been useless at trying to solve the problem.

OS X :: Shutting Down And Force Quitting

May 14, 2009

Having these main problems (which I'm sure many have witnessed using Leopard):
(I have a desktop imac (intel core duo 2.66).)

1 The machine often refuses to shut down (or restart) and I get that black veil slide down the screen following the "you need to restart your computer..." message
2. The machine refuses to shut down and just stays on the desktop image with the black spinning wheel spinning endlessly.
3. I'm getting problems with applications refusing to quit (even when using opt-cmd-escape) . even when the computer "acknowledges" that the ap has quit, the icon is still active in the dock underneath.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Force Eject A CD

Oct 17, 2009

I've tried all the methods. I have a 2+ year old Macbook Pro. The drive was a bit bowed down, but a screw drive forcing the casing back up fixed that. I have tried holding down the eject button on restart as well as the mouse. I tried the command-control-p-o combo and it wouldn't boot into the open firmware.

The laptop keeps trying to read the disk, but the disk is apparently unreadable. So what the hell am I to do? I can't even get into Mac OS X or use the laptop.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Force Other Accounts To Log Off?

Jun 4, 2012

I see older posts on this but nothing new, and I was hoping maybe newer versions of Mac OS X have solved this.  I have a big family, and often my kids forget to log out of their accounts; eventually, the machine slows to a crawl for all the apps they collectively leave open.  Is there a way to automatically force accounts to log off after a certain amount of idle time, or a way for me to "bulk" log them off?  Restarting the machine or individually logging into each account is one way to do it, but it sure is inconvenient when all I want to do is hop on for five minutes to check email etc.
